Disgusting twitter trend, what more can I do?

whatmorecanIdo · 01/05/2012 23:27

There is a 'trend' tonight, a photo is going around of a young women having sex with a dog. The problem is a 15 year old local girl has been named as the person in the photo and her name is trending, it's horrific

I have been to the police and they said they can't do anything until the family report it. I have emailed twitter. I have emailed the girls school to look out for her

This little girl is being demonised all over twitter, her full name and town. If she knows what the hell will she be going through

What more can I do

OP posts:

Genuinely. OMG, i really didn't mean to make it worse. If you go on Twitter its the top trend. I would never incite bullying especially of a child. I just thought the info was so readily there!! Is there a way i can delete the post?

KRITIQ · 02/05/2012 00:34

If this is something involving the safety and welfare of a 15 year old, isn't it an issue of child protection? Can you know for sure that the image isn't of her, or of another child (and therefore illegal?) I think I'd be going back to the cops and ask them for a better explanation!

CEOP again may be able to advise.

And naming names here, jaysus.

thatisall · 02/05/2012 00:36

hnestly I just felt sorry for that girl who is upset right now, I tweeted her cos I felt so sorry for her. i feel and am so stupid, how do I remove it??

piprabbit · 02/05/2012 00:37

You see the line with the poster's details at the top of each post thatisall. At the right hand end is a button called 'report'. Click on it and ask for your post to be deleted. You won't be the first person.

pinkpyjamas · 02/05/2012 00:40

Appalling bullying.
So many nasty, nasty little bullies, tapping away at their screens, encouraging each other to get worse and worse.
The internet makes bullying so easy to do, and so difficult to stop.

thatisall · 02/05/2012 00:41

Ive just done that. feel so stupid. I was just writing having just left Twitter were that info is everywhere. Such a stupid thing to do. I feel like crawling into a hole right now.

What i meant was that everyone with that name is being accused right now, when actually some big has probably found it somewhere and attributed it to a girl with that name. Theres a little girl all upset on Twitter right now and it isn't even her its referring to.

I really am not one of those people, so sorry everyone.

thatisall · 02/05/2012 00:44

Right i've reported it a second time...is there anything else I can do?

bogeyface · 02/05/2012 00:48

The problem is that many of the arseholes are halfway around the world and dont consider that somewhere there is a real person being affected by what they do. To them its just a joke :(

I thought FB was bad but twitter is way worse. I dont tweet much as frankly i dont get it, but now I have seen the darker than dark side of it, I wont be tweeting again.

piprabbit · 02/05/2012 00:50

MNHQ seem a bit slow on the uptake tonight.
I think you'll just have to wait.

thatisall · 02/05/2012 00:52

I genuinely feel like crying right now. The information is all over the internet, its not like I produced it, i just feel so stupid to have mentioned it in this forum.

Seriously Im so so sorry everyone

AllYoursBabooshka · 02/05/2012 00:54

It's ok thatisall don't panic, You didn't mean to cause harm. There is nothing else you can do but report it.

It was a silly mistake. Can everyone keep reporting?

piprabbit · 02/05/2012 00:54

You've done what you can to rectify it - it's not your fault it is all over twitter. Go and have a sleep and hopefully the post will be gone by morning.

Don't worry about it, it's very easy to find. Me and a few others have been on Twitter pointing out that it's a bag of shite and that the pic they posted was classed as 'extreme pornography' so taken very, very, very seriously by the boys in blue. There were quite a few other Twitterers pointing out that it is a hoax and bullying too. The trend has now been taken over by the spam bots so anyone clicking on the trend would have to wade for hours through page upon page of inane tweets from people offering nonsense jobs reviewing iPads and selling shite before they got back to the more disturbing tweets. It has also been reported to Twitter several times as extreme porn.

I feel so sorry for that poor girl and hope she has the strength to deal with the bullies. They should be reported to the police for sure.

bogeyface · 02/05/2012 01:51

I found it via the trending thread, Thatisall didnt lead me to it at all. And lets face it, the kind of twat that would trend this shit isnt likely to be on here.

thatisall · 02/05/2012 02:14

I think all the tweets claiming it to be (quite rightly I suspect) a hoax have quashed it.

Its still there, my post.

I feel really stupid but can i just say: when a persons name and location is literally all over twitter and Facebook, to the point where in the case of one of my friends, it filled her timeline, I wasn't revealing something that nobody knew, or putting a child in danger or encouraging people to be cruel to her.

What I was actually saying was that people just throw names out there, for nasty spiteful reasons, or just to get a reaction. AND so many people are effected, like the teen I mentioned who was tweeting about how it wasn't her all the way at the other end of the country from the girl who it is supposed to be.

As it turns out, it seems this girl doesn't exist.

I still regret posting 'the name', it was an error in judgement, late at night on a very challenging day, but really I was hardly 'spreading the bullying around' was I?

I stand by my initial comments. Whomever is in that photo needs help and as for the Twitter witch-hunt: it is a mad world.

IAmBooyhoo · 02/05/2012 09:36

well tbh fair. i didn't know the child's name before this thread and now i do. i have twitter but never use it so it wasn't not really revealing something that nobody knew but that's besides the point. you didn't men it. you made a mistake and it's very clear you are genuinely as upset as everyone else about it.

vivian TBF (again) no-one could really tell from that's post what his/her intentions were by naming the child. it wasn't clear until she came back and said how sorry she was that we knew it was an accident so i think people's initial responses to it were to be expected really.

i'm quite surprised MNHQ haven't taken it down yet.

Tee2072 · 02/05/2012 09:57

Your post is gone now, thatisall. So stop fretting. It was a mistake.

As for finding out who started the Twitter stuff? Good luck. It may be nearly impossible to trace it backwards if it trended and went viral. Because people Tweet and re-Tweet and re-Tweet etc etc etc.

Twitter can be used for good. And it can be used for bad. And Twitter can't police it because it is international and millions of people Tweet every second of ever day.

It's horrible when things like this happen, but don't blame the tool. Blame the idiots who have never been told that picking on people is mean and cruel and not clever or funny.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 02/05/2012 09:58

minimisschief are you thick or something, do you seriously think that the girl in the picture is really the named girl and you feel sorry for the dog Hmm.

TheSockPuppet · 02/05/2012 10:03

If the name attached to the picture spread around is of a 15 year old girl then could everyone report the picture as child porn (even though we know it isn't her obv but it might help), and hopefully twitter and the local authority might work together to remove it and investigate very quickly?

TheSockPuppet · 02/05/2012 10:05

abiggi, no she doesn't really think that I'm sure, I've noticed for a while now that minimisschief just goes on threads quite a lot and disagrees with the general consensus with comments such as those posted here - I think she finds it funny? Or maybe just doesn't get out enough.

IAmBooyhoo · 02/05/2012 10:07

mini's a man as far as i know. Smile

Nyac · 02/05/2012 10:14

Pictures of bestiality are illegal. Try the police again.

Nyac · 02/05/2012 10:17

This is the other place you should report what you know:

www.iwf.org.uk/

Vixxen · 02/05/2012 10:20

This is just rotten. That poor girl. It appears to have stopped trending now but the damage has been done. I can oly hope they have actually started to do something about it :(
