To ask MNHQ for a FB style "like" button?!

When they get a new server can they also please put FB or Daily Fascist style ratings buttons.

Sometimes I can't be arsed to reply or name the poster (looking back upthread/having to remember how to highlight a name Hmm).

Sometimes comments are v funny/unfunny and I would like to like and unlike.

Thanks :)

If there was a like button, I'd be pressing it now!

EmptyBotheredPocket · 01/05/2012 18:37

Yanbu, I'd love it.

Groovee · 01/05/2012 18:37

I need a like button

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 01/05/2012 18:38

There's been several arguments discussions about this and most mumsnetters don't want one.

the Facebook recommend button was a compromise I think

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:39

What is the argument against?

OlaRapaceFru · 01/05/2012 18:39

I think there have been numerous a few threads about this over the last year few months?

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:40

Haven't seen any obvs not trying hard enough!!

OP posts:
sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:42
  • and does the FB button not link Mumsnet to your FB then? Hmm

Joiningthegang · 01/05/2012 18:44

I think op means a Facebook style "like" rather than a Facebook like that uploads to your status - that would be rubbish - but to be able to "like" a comment - or give a thumbs up or down as in other forums would be helpful and would negate the need for many to post that they too agree.

So please can we have one? Pretty please?

UtterlyButterly · 01/05/2012 18:46

This is the first thread I have seen on FB style buttons where people agree and actually want it.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 01/05/2012 18:46

can you not just do Smile @ xxxx name or poster who said xxxxx lots of us do that

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/05/2012 18:47

YABU.

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:47

No because I am so lazy I don't want to scroll back through the thread to remember the name :)

OP posts:
southeastastra · 01/05/2012 18:48

yeah do it, don't care anymore Grin

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:49

For instance I can just "unlike" all the people who bothered to post on a thread saying its already been done :)

OP posts:
TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/05/2012 18:49

Why do you want one though? Can't you just mention a poster's name like this

eccles you're right.

?? Or is that too much effort? I like MN because it's built around people putting some thought into their posts...and their replies. Not mindlessly "liking" shit or thumbing it up or whatever. And I can see some threads would be FULL of the things....whilst others wouldn't and then some posters would moan...Why doesn't anyone ever LIKE my posts???

Nah. Leave it as it is.

usualsuspect · 01/05/2012 18:50

What if no one ever liked your posts Sad

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:51

No cuz then I have to scroll though 11 pages to find eccles rather than see that lots of people thought eccles was right.

OP posts:
TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/05/2012 18:51

sensuall if you're too lazy then bugger ya'. I don't want the pages littered with LIKES. They piss me off.

UtterlyButterly · 01/05/2012 18:52

A lot of people come here because it isn't like facebook.

I love the fact that I can get involved in discussions or talk about anything. IMO 'liking' a post is lazy. If you like something then tell them.

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:52

That would be rather insecure would it not?!

OP posts:
sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 18:53

What about people who are at work? And have quota time?!

OP posts:
TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/05/2012 18:53

Well then as you read, do as I do...think "Oh I will remember HER...she said a funny thing." and then post...and then continue to read. Shit. You sound so lazy you'll just turn into a large finger soon....mindlessly liking things.

OlaRapaceFru · 01/05/2012 18:54

This might give you some idea of how often this has been debated over the last 12 months www.mumsnet.com/SearchArch?mustmatch=like+button&dontmatch=&nickname=&src_displ_option=s_m_d_m&fromDate=1%2F5%2F11&toDate=1%2F5%2F12&topicmode=chs&chosentops=2724&chosentops=1374&chosentops=1375.

OK, they may not all specifically directly relate to your question, but these threads are all from Site Stuff, AIBU and _Chat.

UtterlyButterly · 01/05/2012 18:55

It takes two seconds just to post 'xxxx Grin'

I don't understand the point in it. I don't understand the point in it on Facebook either.
