To ask MNHQ for a FB style "like" button?!

When they get a new server can they also please put FB or Daily Fascist style ratings buttons.

Sometimes I can't be arsed to reply or name the poster (looking back upthread/having to remember how to highlight a name Hmm).

Sometimes comments are v funny/unfunny and I would like to like and unlike.

Thanks :)

It's more of a time management issue Grin

Exactly Ola

How hard was that OP?

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/05/2012 18:58

I don't like it, it makes people lazy and it is like a popularity competition. If you can be arsed to scroll back and remember people's names, you get a vote Grin

IAmBooyhoo · 01/05/2012 18:58

"No because I am so lazy I don't want to scroll back through the thread to remember the name "

that doesn't make sense, you'd have to scroll through the thread to like the post anyway.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/05/2012 19:01

booyhoo exactly!

McHappyPants2012 · 01/05/2012 19:07

It don't want one, with a like button it will
Mean less discussion

OlaRapaceFru · 01/05/2012 19:08

Well, I don't know about you, OP, but I'm here to actually 'talk'/interact with other MNers, as I suspect most of us are. I'm not here to 'tick a box'.

And if you have a 'time management' problem with MNing at work, then you shouldn't be doing it during the time someone else is paying you to do a job for them. (I accept many of us do personal things during working hours, but not at the jeopardy of our jobs).

MonaLotte · 01/05/2012 19:11

Don't know if this has been done before but I would like to be able to quote from up the thread.

I know I can copy and paste but I don't like to

SunshineOutdoors · 01/05/2012 19:16

I don't think I'd like a like burton. If someone agrees with something a poster says they often say why they agree with it and give the same opinion in their own words, which can provide a different perspective or raise a new point that in turn gets discussed.

I wouldn't like AIBU to turn into one post saying YABU and one saying YANBU and then just a tally of likes next to each one.

It's a bit like having a conversation and just nodding instead of contributing.

I think either lurk or post. I don't see the need for an in-between option of liking. Agree that I like mumsnet because it doesn't have some of the features of other forums : text speak, like buttons, tickers, avatars etc.

runningforthebusinheels · 01/05/2012 19:17

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO like button. Or quoting. Or tickers. Or glitter. Just NO.

SunshineOutdoors · 01/05/2012 19:17

Wtf is a like burton? Button obviously.

McHappyPants2012 · 01/05/2012 19:19

NO TICKERS they make my eyes bleed

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 19:20

Only get six mins a session at work :) I want to like instantly not to then have to scroll back :)

OP posts:
SunshineOutdoors · 01/05/2012 19:20

I get confused by the quote another poster on other forums. It can end up as a box within a box within a box with loads of repeated info on a page and I don't get who is actually posting or what their point is after a while. Maybe that's just me though Grin

TheSockPuppet · 01/05/2012 19:20

Do goes on a different forum that has a like button for posts...just saying...

:-o

TheSockPuppet · 01/05/2012 19:21

**DP

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 19:21

I like the discussion - just can't see the point in loads of repeated agree with so and so posts and biscuits and smileys. Just saying :)

OP posts:
TheSockPuppet · 01/05/2012 19:22

** :o

I should stick to the desktop site and not come on here on my phone!

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 19:26

What if you were only allowed 3 a day? Grin

OP posts:
IAmBooyhoo · 01/05/2012 19:26

what do you mean you want to liek instantly not having to scroll back?

do you mean you want to like an individual post? well you'd have to be at that post anyway to 'like' it. otherwise what do you mean?

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 19:28

As I am reading through an 11 page thread and I read a post that makes me laugh or I agree with or think is mean I can like/unlike it without losing my place in the thread - then have my say at the end.

OP posts:
TheSockPuppet · 01/05/2012 19:29

And it works quite well on his forum too, there's still lengthy discussions but the lurkers can like what posts they thought were funny too.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/05/2012 19:29

If a thread is so far developed that it has 11 pages you should simply join in from the end...an 11 page thread meanders and changes. It's not as though you have to collate ALL of your reactions from start to finish...that's self indulgent.

sensuallettuce · 01/05/2012 19:31

Yea but when you join in from the end what ou have to say has normally been said/discussed already and you are just repeating.
