So dh's football team may be playing at Wembley if they win another couple of games.
All good except match is at Wembley on dd's birthday. Dd wouldn't want to go to the game.
I know dh will probably forgoe the match but will be not be happy about it.
AIBu to just want them not to get there.

YANBU because then the decision will be made for you and it won't be an issue. But if they do win and go to Wembley that would be a big deal wouldn't it? How old is DD?

It would be a big deal that Daddy wouldn't be there on her birthday then at that age. Hmmmm, difficult one. I can totally see why you would want them to lose.

cocolepew · 29/04/2012 20:05

DD will have lots of b'days, surely this is once in a lifetime for DH. Plenty of dads, and mums, miss birthdays, forces, working late etc.

Hassled · 29/04/2012 20:06

Losing does sound like the easiest option. Anyway you could nobble the ref Wink?

Sparklingbrook · 29/04/2012 20:08

Ooooh hang on, is he a player or a supporter? I read it as he was a player. Am I being thick?

belfaft1981 · 29/04/2012 20:09

Interesting point cocolepew. Dh has now said he would probably go and I was amazed. Maybe I am making too big a deal out of it. After all if birthday was during the week he would be at work most of the day.

Supporter. Sorry if not clear.

No my post not clear.

Oh right. I thought to was going to play on the hallowed turf. Smile

cocolepew · 29/04/2012 20:11

Will he see her in the morning? DH hasn't seen the DDS for years on their B'day because of the hours he works. We would go out at the weekend as a family. It's different now they are older and not in bed when he comes in!

cocolepew · 29/04/2012 20:12

oh fuck that i thought he was playing too!!!!

I'd still be ok with him going though Grin

boarding · 29/04/2012 20:13

haaa i thought you meant he would be playing too :-)
Do you live near Wembley?
Think not unreasonable he does both celebrations -after all your daughter will probably be up at 6am on her birthday and he could get up at that time too and make a fuss of her pre-match

AdelaideAussie · 29/04/2012 20:15

Can't he go to Wembley and then do all the birthday things the next day? your DD wont know the difference.

If he supports York dont worry they wont make It !! come on you Stags !!

ShellyBoobs · 29/04/2012 20:15

YABU.

It's a birthday, not her wedding day!

What if he worked abroad or was in the forces? There'd be no option would there.

Sounds like you're being quite precious to me, wanting your DH to miss out on something that could be a chance in a lifetime.

jaquelinehyde · 29/04/2012 20:16

If my team got to Wembley in the play offs then I would go regardless of birthday.

Imagine you got the chance to do something you had always dreamed of, a very rare oppertunity but it was on a birthday, what would you do?

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 29/04/2012 20:16

If he was playing; YABU

As a supporter; YANBU

I do think it's doesn't really matter if he misses a few hours of her birthday though. You quite often have to have celebrations/parties on another day if your birthday is on weekday. Just have her celebrations over 2 days or something.

Sparklingbrook · 29/04/2012 20:16

Which team is it? I'll ask DH what the chances are. Grin

jaquelinehyde · 29/04/2012 20:17

AdelaideAussie --- See you at Wembley then Grin Grin Yellow through and through here!!!

PurplePidjin · 29/04/2012 20:18

Dp the footy nut says YABU. Apparently non-footy obsessive types have no concept of how important these things are Hmm thanks fuck for living with a Leeds supporter on the South coast

How much more grumpy and miserable will he be if they lose!

belfaft1981 · 29/04/2012 20:20

About 80 miles from Wembey so I guess if kick of 3pm will leave at about 11am. Back about 8pm.

OP posts:
belfaft1981 · 29/04/2012 20:20

Suppose could celebrate day before.

jaquelinehyde · 29/04/2012 20:23

Oh and my dh has given me permission to travel from Shetland to Wembley for the play off final if my team get there.

This involves leaving him with the 3 dc's for 3 days and involves serious cutbacks for the next few weeks so I can afford it.

Let him go, it could be the only time in his life time that his team plays at Wembley.

YellowDinosaur · 29/04/2012 20:24

I read this as though he'd be paying there to :o

If I were you I'd pretend her birthday was on a different day. She'll be none the wiser.

I'd be a bit pissed off in your situation too so I do get it but also understand that if this is likely to be a very rare event your dh would really want to go.

jaquelinehyde · 29/04/2012 20:24

Come on then tell us his team...
