So dh's football team may be playing at Wembley if they win another couple of games.
All good except match is at Wembley on dd's birthday. Dd wouldn't want to go to the game.
I know dh will probably forgoe the match but will be not be happy about it.
AIBu to just want them not to get there.

YANBU to want them to lose so he doesn't have to go, but I think if they do go then he prob will be better of going. DD can celebrate her birthday a different day.

I am hoping the minster men will get there so Biscuit to AdelaideAussie and jaquelinehyde Grin

Also wants to know which team it is, its obviously play-offs.

I honestly cannot remember my dad being there all day on my birthdays when I was a kid. I know I had parties, and remember them, and remember my mum and her mate organising the games, doing the food etc. but my dad was certainly not there, probably as he was at work, or took the dog out to escape the noise and chaos.

So long as your daughter has a fun day, she really will not mind him not being there for all of it I am sure.

Kennyp · 07/05/2012 17:12

Would you do something similar and miss your dd birthdya?? If it was my dh its up to him if he goes, theres nothing i can di about his loyalties. Children v football. Bloody west ham?!?!

If he goes, he goes. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

No way. The only time I missed a birthday was for a family funeral and it broke my heart to do it. Guess I have accept football is a big part of his life.

What are the plans for her birthday?

Would she really care or is it that you care?

Here at that age we generally had a small party on the day-so if weekday, father would more than likely not be there.

MirandaGoshawk · 07/05/2012 17:28

Yes, party after school would generally not involve my dch's dad. Send him off to Wembley with your blessing, after all your DD will have lots of friends presents and party games to distract her.

EdithWeston · 07/05/2012 17:29

This thread started over a week ago. Have they been knocked out yet?

belfaft1981 · 07/05/2012 17:29

Were originally planning to go away for weekend. Party for friends is on a different day. Will have to think of something nice to do at home.
DD has upset when broached initially. Seems a little happier now.

edith this thread was reignited again by the OP with an update and its obviously a team in the playoff who has won or about to win and they will play the final at Wembly so they have done the opposite of being knocked out, but have actually won. So they could be promoted a league if they win at wembly.

PoppyWearer · 07/05/2012 17:32

DH likes to go for the first game of the season in August, but I've realised it will clash with DS's birthday. DH has been banned from going, I need him to help with the party, and he should be there as it's an important birthday. My DH has "previous" in this regard - although it was my birthday before, not DC's. Grin

YANBU OP!

ilovesooty · 07/05/2012 17:34

I think getting to see your team play at Wembley is a once in a lifetime thing. When a friend of mine had his team get to the playoff finals at Wembley to get into the Premiership the match fell on the day he'd booked to go abroad with his wife and daughter. They flew out as arranged and he flew out the next day to join them. They were ok with it but he had to put up with angry phone calls from his parents and in laws complaining about how selfish he was. Since the team are now languishing in League 2 I doubt he'll ever have the opportunity to experience that again.

ilovesooty · 07/05/2012 17:37

Birthdays parties can take place on a different day. The match isn't going to be moved...

startail · 07/05/2012 17:37

YABU
My DDs are quite used to moving their birthday celebrations a day or to to accommodate school, siblings, grandparents etc.

Let DH have his day and he'll make it up to DD several times over I bet.

I've never met a Dad who can resist spoiling his 6th DD!

FartBlossom · 07/05/2012 17:37

Depends on who you support. My uncle is a very big football fan and his girlfriend said she'd go when they got to Wembly thinking that as they are not as big as Man U or anything she would never have to go, but of course a couple of years ago they went in the finals of a lower league cup and now they are going to be there twice this month!!!!!

I do, however, think its different than just going to see them at their home ground though.

OurPlanetNeptune · 07/05/2012 17:57

I think if it is the team I think it is then don't begrudge you DH the chance to go. My brother adores that team and he will be there if they win the next couple of matches. The team blow hot and cold as this season has shown and goodness knows when they will have such an opportunity for glory again.

iwantbrie · 07/05/2012 18:00

Could you maybe travel to London with him, do a touristy type thing with DD then meet him after for a birthday meal?

EdithWeston · 07/05/2012 18:02

Oops - missed that post: my apologies, everyone.

PoppyWearer · 07/05/2012 18:03

Definitely depends on the team. My DH supports Man Utd and they have been at Wembley/other finals every five minutes since DH and I have been together. So I do get rather Hmm at his football-going. Not remotely a "once-in-a-lifetime".

ilovesooty · 07/05/2012 18:18

Oh, I do agree that it depends on the team.

jaquelinehyde · 07/05/2012 18:59

Well if he is a York supporter firstly, boooooooo hiiissssssssssss.

Secondly it isn't a once in a life time thing for him as they are going to be playing at Wembley 8 days before the play off final as well in the cup final!
