and not 'sucky'

DNiece is getting Christened tomorrow. I have bought this present as I really think its a nice gift. Showed DH this morning while I was wrapping it up and he said it was rubbish and sucky.

That is lovely.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/04/2012 08:44

It's a lively gift Smile

crowface · 28/04/2012 08:45

I think that's a very nice present. I think your dh may be a bit clueless with regards to suitable presents for girls.

wishiwasonholiday · 28/04/2012 08:46

It's nice but depends if they'll use it ds has one that has just sat gathering dust.

PoppadumPreach · 28/04/2012 08:46

Lovely. You DH is being a bit of an arse!

EmmaCate · 28/04/2012 08:46

I think it's fine. What does sucky mean? I have bought complete works of classic stories for christenings before - not Potter I think but I think the author is secondary.

sunnydelight · 28/04/2012 08:47

Lovely present. We got something similar for DD from a friend and thought it was a really great gift.

OddBoots · 28/04/2012 08:47

If he was concerned about what gift you were getting he probably should have shown an interest before the day before the Christening.

For what it is worth, I think it is lovely.

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 28/04/2012 08:47

that is lovely!!! My sister got one for her christening that "sat gathering dust" but when mum gave it to charity a few years ago she went ballistic!!

Iwantcandy · 28/04/2012 08:47

Lovely. Especially if you write a lovely message inside

Lovely present. My DH does this too, very annoying. Gives absolutely no thought to the DCs presents, then a couple of weeks before the event, when I'm ordering them online (NB I've been making notes all year of what to buy them) will offer his thoughts on my choices and attempts to veto some of them.

I tell him to piss off (nicely, of course).

Psammead · 28/04/2012 08:54

I think that's a lovely gift. DD, 2.3 loves Peter Rabbit.

nannyl · 28/04/2012 08:55

looks lovely to me

an ideal christening present

DonInKillerHeels · 28/04/2012 08:55

That's a lovely present! I bought my DNiece a royal doulton bunnykins mug and plate, and that's the same kind of lines. Your DH is a twit unless he can fork out for a silver egg cup

marriedinwhite · 28/04/2012 08:56

Lovely - our dc have a few similar things and once they were teenagers they started reading them and appreciated their value. Esp the Flower Fairy Books.

Littlemissimpatient · 28/04/2012 08:57

I bought my Niece very similar. I would love it for my little one

carabos · 28/04/2012 08:57

In our family that book is the christening present - either that or a traditional silver mug. I don't understand what he means by "sucky"?

PurplePidjin · 28/04/2012 08:57

Lovely. I have hardback AA Milne from when I was tiny.

DH should have organized his bloody self if he doesn't like your choice!

iscream · 28/04/2012 08:58

It is a perfect Christening gift.

PJHarpy · 28/04/2012 08:58

N idea what 'sucky' means, but it is lovely and if it were my child being christened I would be touched by such a sweet present. A friend bought my DS a similar style compendium of Winnie the Pooh stories for his naming day and we loved it.

catgirl1976 · 28/04/2012 08:58

Lovely gift - one I recieved for DS and was really touched by. A beautiful gift

Ignore your DH :)

loobeylou2012 · 28/04/2012 09:03

Brilliant gift! Still have ALL hardback boks of this type I was given when little (my grandad was a librarian - I got quite a few and loved them all!), I'm sure my little one will love them too...

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 28/04/2012 09:05

Lovely, lovely present! YANBU.

Dawndonna · 28/04/2012 09:38

My aunt did the exact same thing for my son, he's 27 now, and he still has the complete set on his shelves.
It's lovely.
