and not 'sucky'

DNiece is getting Christened tomorrow. I have bought this present as I really think its a nice gift. Showed DH this morning while I was wrapping it up and he said it was rubbish and sucky.

My DS was christened a month ago and a dear friend of the family gave this to us. Its lovely and we were so pleased with it. Your DH sounds a wee bit immature Grin

and agree with NeedANannyShare

I am very excited about giving it now. DN is my sisters DD so I know it will go down well.

DH thought we should give money - but money or vouchers are him default setting.

DD had one when she was born. We love it, and it means we're not short of a bedtime story or two!

I bought the same set (but paid a lot more from waterstones) for a friends ds christening. I bought a beautiful box from John Lewis to wrap it in and the box doubles as a keep sake box.
Fantastic present I say!

Floggingmolly plenty of people don't, sadly. This boy did have SNs, as I said, but my friend had picked appropriate books for him, not War & Peace or anything!

It was the mum's reaction that shocked her most, so ungracious. I don't know the woman myself but I know my friend was v upset.

Not sucky at all

It's a lovely present. I got a set of Beatrix Potter books as a christening present 22 years ago and can't wait to put it in the nursery now Smile

I would probably thank someone for a gift like that and then secretly dispose of it later. Same with AA Milne stuff as I hate them both and a lot of 'classic' stuff along similar lines as I find it twee, sickly and way overrated. I haven't got my dc christened either. I wouldn't say they are inappropriate as a christening gift but would think something with religious significance would be a better choice.

However a lot of people do like them, there's a reason why they are still around so many years later, so I don't think its a terrible gift.

I think it's a lovely present too.

I bought my god daughter a dolls pram for her christening present - I figured she would enjoy that more than the usual silver stuff that people buy for christenings.

My DS was given this as a christening gift almost 10yrs ago and not only did I read it to him, I read it to my DD1 and my son is now reading it to DD2! x

Lovely present - also Just So Stories are great, Aesop's Fables, 1001 Arabian nights... basically any great classics that children will enjoy having read to them as bedtime stories and then enjoy more when they are older.

Although I now give a good Swiss Army knife and the Dangerous Book for Boys, which I'm sure get a few Hmm faces :o

DS got one of those for his christening and now age 3 loves it. I like it too but sometimes wish it was the smaller ones as they are easier to handle (and to hide the longer ones!) but I agree - great present.
