Ever sent or received a PM that was meant for someone else?

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 18:52

I received a PM this afternoon that simply said "Hello, I am just testing on iPad"

That was it...nothing else. I searched their name and they've never posted anything either Confused

Anyway, it made me wonder if any of you have ever sent/received a PM, text or email meant for someone else?

And if so, was it embarrassing? Did it get you into trouble at all? Grin

I sent texts to the wrong people all the time.

Recently had a smear and a friend of mine said to text her and let her know what they do as she had one coming up.

So I wrote this text in great detail and then sent it too a male friend!

MissFaversham · 26/04/2012 18:55

No one ever sends me one so can I have yours? Grin

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 18:58

OMG Pringle I hope he wasn't eating a kebab at the time Grin

Of course MissF Grin

Oh but I recently received a very long heart wrenching text from an ex which was meant for someone else. He was obviously pissed out of his head, it made my day. I text back, oops wrong one, never been called Brenda before. He had the audacity to say "I still love you more though" Grin

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 19:01

Oh god that's a classic MissF!!

My BIL sent me a text message intended for his best mate saying he was "sick of marriage".

Naturally I told my SIL as I am very close to her.

MissFaversham · 26/04/2012 19:04

Was on a dating site and sent someone my bosses number instead of mine by mistake Blush

What a great thread Worra, bringing back very fond memories here!

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 19:14

forever what did your SIL say? And why did you tell her? Shock

MissF, I remember seeing two posters on here arguing about something and one of them went to report the other one...but they accidentally clicked 'message poster' instead of 'report'!

D'oh!

I am the worlds worst for sending wrong texts. My biggest problem is that my iPhone gives me a preview I read that finish what I'm doing then open up messages and just assume that it's the person who just text me but it's usually not.

I sent a text with a link to a vibrator just a few days ago to a friend but it wasn't until I hit send that I started thinking oh shit. I had actually sent it to a male friend Blush he of course was delighted Grin thought he'd got lucky.

I send some strange messages made stranger I'm sure by the regularity they end up in the wrong inbox. BlushBlush

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 19:24

It's always disturbing when a vibrator ends up in the wrong box Grin

no, my life is never that exciting.

applepieinthesky · 26/04/2012 19:28

I sent a text a couple of weeks ago to my brother instead of DP about meeting him when I got out of the doctors.

Then brother told my mum I was at the doctors and I had to lie about the reason. I was going because I'm pregnant but nobody knows yet.

makinglemonade · 26/04/2012 19:31

Great thread!

I've done this a few times. A few years ago before DH and I lived together. Me and a friend where having some drinks before meeting other girlfriends in town for a big night out. Friend text me to say an American basketball team had just landed in the bar and they where enjoying drinks with them. I text her to save a 'big boy' for me and not to be greedy. Except I sent it to DH Blush
Luckily he knew I was joking but ribbed me about it for months!

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 26/04/2012 19:31

Grin I'm actually now not sure after posting that whether it was any better sending it to a female friend. Confused

foreverondiet · 26/04/2012 19:41

I couldn't decide whether to tell my SIL but I was very very upset about it as I am very close to SIL, and I thought it was right to tell her. She always knew I didn't like BIL and after that incident she understood why.

BIL was pissed off with me for telling her. She said "oh".

BIL said he was just ranting off to a mate and was more pissed off with the baby being in their bed all night aged 18 months and getting no sleep than with SIL herself, and that he couldn't go out with his mates all the time.

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 20:12

Lol @ save a 'big boy' for me Grin

Ahh so no real harm done then forever

i used to work in an investment bank and was in meeting with my boss. he was being a complete prick to me (and lots of other people at the meeting) so when my boyfriend emailed me on blackberry i replied giving great detail as to why my boss was the biggest knob in London and how utterly fecked off i was.

i hit send and then i realised i had actually replied to my previous email which was send from "BankGlobal" meaning i sent my reply to everyone in the entire bank, across the entire world.

i had to quickly excuse myself from the meeting and after a series of near hysterical phone calls finding out how to stop the email going out, i was told that "jean on the 6th floor" gets all the emails that have been sent out to the global address and vets/refers them appropriately-i was therefore able to stop it going out. i am not sure if i have ever, ever been so relieved.

TheScottishPlayer · 26/04/2012 20:24

Both my boss and I have to be careful with email - her DH shares my initials, and she shares my DH's. Similar problem with phones, we've both sent messages with xx to each other instead of our DH's. Thankfully we've never sent anything too bad!

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 20:58

Poppadum I would have had a heart attack!

Not yet Scottish anyway Wink

It's my worst nightmare WorraLiberty. I'm very careful never to moan about work or my boss to my DH electronically Grin

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 21:09

I once spent about an hour typing up a long and boring attendance report to email to the Head at my DS's school (as a Governor)

So to break the monotony, I had another email window open to reply to my Nephew's email.

I mixed them up and ended up signing off my email to the Head with...

"Anyway it's late now, I hope you have your Star Trek PJ's on. I love you, live long and prosper" Blush Blush

SherlockGnomes · 26/04/2012 21:17

that made both me and DH literally cry with laughter worra i hope you have your star trek PJs on fucking brilliant.

I got bombarded with emails when someone signed up to Facebook and put my email address instead of hers. This was when FB sent notifications out every time someone added you as a friend, or commented on your page etc. This particular girl was far too popular for my liking... 40 odd emails a day.
I started politely telling her friends that she had put the wrong email address and would they kindly ask her to amend it. In the end I got rather ranty or rude telling them that they were friends with a fucking eejit who didn't know her own email address and could she actually tie her own shoe laces? Then one day it magically stopped. [relief emoticon]

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2012 23:53

I've always found that weird about FB

You don't actually have to log into your email account to verify it...so yes you could easily give someone else's address.

No wonder you were pissed off!
