to think that British Gas are knobs?

long story short.

Pay £172 per month, and have done so since last August. Have carefully entered meter readings each quarter. At the end of the year (ie August) was expecting to be a bit ahead, it states clearly on website that if this is more than £100, it would be refunded.

Entered 3rd quarter meter readings yesterday. Today get a bill which states that i am being reimbursed £102 but that my payments are increasing to £227 a month from may.

I phone them. I point out that as my 3 quarters of bills include the 2 winter ones and I am £100 in credit I do not understand how my payments are required to increase by £660 per year. The person on the phone informs me that it is based on my predicted usage. I say that as my current extortionate £172 per month leaves me in credit, and I would be further in credit at the end of the next quarter as that would be the summer one, how the jeff can any person or computer honestly predict that another £660 is required?

I then say that I am absolutely not increasing my payment under any circumstances. He then says that he has to warn me that I will end up £250 is in debit at the end of the year. I don't beleive this and anyway if that is the case, WHY NOT ASK FOR ANOTHER £250? WHY ASK FOR £660?

I hadnt been with BG for years. I am now starting to remember why.

good luck sorting it out but don't hold your breath.

Cutelittlecatlover · 23/04/2012 18:50

Yanbu, British Gas are greedy incompetent cunts

OfCourseImAlwaysRight · 23/04/2012 18:50

BG are listed in my phone as BRITISH GAS CUNTS-DO NOT ANSWER!
I hate them with a passion, change suppliers and send them an e-mail stating why,and that they are now losing £xx per year from you because of their stupid fucking greed!

DizzyKipper · 23/04/2012 18:50

I'm not even going to read it. You're never unreasonable to say BG are knobs, they just are Wink

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 23/04/2012 19:02

BG are listed in my phone as BRITISH GAS CUNTS-DO NOT ANSWER!

God this made me laugh. YANBU OP British Gas are knobs- fact!

MissLofPubia · 23/04/2012 19:04

Fuck me that's high! I know there are only 2 people in my house, but I only pay £60 a month at most!

Dawndonna · 23/04/2012 19:05

They took my friend to court for an £800 bill. The judge insisted they look at my friends mobile home. No gas. Was hysterical.

They are bastards and I would not give them the time of day.
Oh, and if you're in a contract, just change your payment to standing order, that way they can't mess with it.

There's another 550 people who think they are tonight.

They're closing their southampton office with the excuse they need to reduce costs to offer value to they're customers!

Cerinthe · 23/04/2012 19:09

They are dreadful. I can't be bothered to type the ins and outs of my dealings with them. They are just awfull

aquafunf · 23/04/2012 19:10

contract finishes at the end of may.

i will move elsewhere, probably to be hounded by them forever offering me a special deal.

"but i moved because of your appalling customer service, not the price" i will say sweetly

Anniegetyourgun · 23/04/2012 19:17

You probably won't believe this but I swear it's true. We used to have a big tank of calor gas at the old marital hovel which was filled about once a quarter. BG took over the company that used to supply it (and of course whacked the price up immediately, as you do). I bought a service plan from them, told them exactly what it was for, they took the first payment and everything. So I rang up and said right, I need my boiler serviced, and then they said they didn't support calor gas!

Yes they did pay the bloody money back without too much fuss, thank goodness. I won't use them again though, ever ever ever.

GirlWithALlamaTattoo · 23/04/2012 21:05

They threatened to take me to court over £7.32 that they had correctly refunded me. I will never use them again.

fivegomadindorset · 23/04/2012 21:09

Awful, awful company, we got stung by them.

mrsrupertpenryjones · 23/04/2012 21:11

Don't get me started on British Fucking Gas.

And breathe ....

MsWeatherwax · 23/04/2012 21:23

Don't move to Npower. They are also knobs.

Noqontrol · 23/04/2012 21:29

Npower definitely are knobs. They took £2000 out of my bank account (or should I say my overdraft) for a £200 bill. (i guess someone hit too many zeros). And then tried to say it would take 28 days to put it back. It still took 10 days after kicking up a stink. And it was right before Christmas, bastards.

Shushshessleeping · 23/04/2012 21:30

who do people use then? We use BG but are in the position to move as we've just moved house. Ive heard stories of people on a good monthly fee but then having to pay a lot a few months down the line as it was 'underestimated"

CleopatrasAsp · 23/04/2012 23:20

All fuel companies are knobs, there are no good ones just less evil ones.

sayjay · 23/04/2012 23:24

Another one here with BG On My List, dickheads.

sixlostmonkeys · 23/04/2012 23:28

BG tried to bill me and proceeded to threaten action etc for my previous property. (They had already refunded me what they owed after I submitted the final reading.
It went on for a while so I eventually went in to see them about it (back in the days when you could do that) I took with me a pile of rubble from what used to be my house (demolished once I left) and told them if they could find a meter and reading among it I would gladly pay.

learningtofly · 23/04/2012 23:41

Similar reason to why we left npower.

100 quid in credit but still wanted to up gas monthly payments to over 100 pounds. We only have one gas appliance! Switched and bill has dropped to 48 pounds a month.

What really really annoyed me was the phone call I got asking me to stay (which I thought was illegal and they should only contact you by post) calling me a bloody liar when I said we had a cheaper quote from another company. The bloke was so so rude I told him the conversation was over and put the phone down on him.

Harleyband · 23/04/2012 23:47

Some things never change. Back in the 70's BG blew up our cooker- nearly taking my mum's head with it. Sheer, bloody, incompetence! Our phone number in Glasgow was one digit off from BG's number. We had to change it after numberous irate people called refusing to believe that we really weren't BG. I wasn't allowed to answer the phone in case I learned some unacceptable language.
