long story short.

Pay £172 per month, and have done so since last August. Have carefully entered meter readings each quarter. At the end of the year (ie August) was expecting to be a bit ahead, it states clearly on website that if this is more than £100, it would be refunded.

Entered 3rd quarter meter readings yesterday. Today get a bill which states that i am being reimbursed £102 but that my payments are increasing to £227 a month from may.

I phone them. I point out that as my 3 quarters of bills include the 2 winter ones and I am £100 in credit I do not understand how my payments are required to increase by £660 per year. The person on the phone informs me that it is based on my predicted usage. I say that as my current extortionate £172 per month leaves me in credit, and I would be further in credit at the end of the next quarter as that would be the summer one, how the jeff can any person or computer honestly predict that another £660 is required?

I then say that I am absolutely not increasing my payment under any circumstances. He then says that he has to warn me that I will end up £250 is in debit at the end of the year. I don't beleive this and anyway if that is the case, WHY NOT ASK FOR ANOTHER £250? WHY ASK FOR £660?

I hadnt been with BG for years. I am now starting to remember why.

YANBU

Left them years ago and would NEVER go back.

Oh yes, knobs, bastards and cunts based on their treatment of me following my dads death. They insisted I had to travel 450 miles and stay in a house with no furniture after I had spent a month nursing my dad and watching him die in that house. The alternative was for them to bring police and force entry so they could change the meter!

They could have picked up keys from the estate agent across the road or wait until the new owner moved in a few weeks later. My late fathers solicitor dealt with them in the end.

They tried this with us. Dh told them we couldn't afford it and we were £200 in credit, so could they send us a cheque for the £200 and could they then look to reduce our payments. They ended up keeping our payments the same and sending us the cheque. (Scottish Gas not British Gas)

They've changed their tariffs to a choice of three recently, and I got a letter telling me to choose one by the end of feb, which I duly did, and I have the confirmation email to prove it.

I had to ring them this week because of their dodgy website and lo and behold I discovered they'd put us on the wrong, more expensive tariff. Luckily they said they'd sort it out and sort the wrong charges out. Lets just see if it happens by friday eh? [cynical smiley]

Maybe we've been lucky but we've had them for years, even switched back to them, and have never had any problems.

Scottish Power are the ones I despise.

BG have been ok for me so far. (fingers crossed emoticon)

"who do people use then? We use BG but are in the position to move as we've just moved house. Ive heard stories of people on a good monthly fee but then having to pay a lot a few months down the line as it was 'underestimated"

We use Utility Warehouse and pay £56 a month for heating a 4 bed detached house and cooking with gas - oven and hob. I hate feeling cold and am not mean with the heating either.

I am very Shock at your monthly bill aquafunf. Do you live in a castle?

We do use BG for servicing and have always been very pleased with the prompt response when our boiler has conked out in cold weather. They even came out during the heavy snow in December 2010.

gafhyb · 24/04/2012 17:54

BG were total crap for servicing. Would never sign up with them again

gafhyb · 24/04/2012 17:55

... In Dec 2010 they left us without heating for 2 weeks, for the want of a fan for the boiler -a fault which 3 fitters failed to spot, and then replace. Everytime I rang to find out what was happening, call centre people tried to sell me more expensive Cover.

gafhyb · 24/04/2012 18:00

They also missed a gas leak in our cellar.

BG are like Royston Vasey - "you'll never leave"

they wanted us to jump through hoops of fire when we wanted to switch. in the end we got away from them by moving to a new rental place!!
we will never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever go with rip off BG again.

(we didn't move to get away from BG, LL gave notice)
