For being annoyed with SIL

For my 30th I had planned to go to Paris with DH as a once in a lifetime weekend! Away from kids too...was so excited

Then found out from someone else that SIL and BIL are planning to go the month after me just cos they can...they knew I was going and they'll bling it too so my birthday weekend won't look so special

Really annoyed :(

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 18/04/2012 14:19

you can keep your Paris, I got horrendous food poisoning there.

And there is dog shit all over the pavements.

Nah, give me New York any day.

eurochick · 18/04/2012 14:21

Well I have completely stolen your thunder, OP. I went to Paris last year. So ner.

Kewcumber · 18/04/2012 14:25

I too got to Paris before you. And have pictures. Some blingy. SOrry OP - if I'd known I might have gone to Berlin and left Paris for you.

Pandemoniaa · 18/04/2012 14:32

Shit! I've totally done Paris now and never gave you a single thought. I've also managed to fuckup several other European cities by not remembering that they were to be left alone until you planned a visit.

Still, since it is a special occasion, perhaps you could phone that nice Mr Sarkozy and ask if he could clear the city for your once-in-a-lifetime trip. Seems only reasonable. Oh, and while you are ringing, suggest that he closes the ports, airports and international railway stations before your insouciant SIL & BIL get a chance to slip in and "bling up" the place. The very cheek of it, eh?

LilRedWG · 18/04/2012 14:32

This has got to be a windup, surely no-one is this pathetic really?!

LilRedWG · 18/04/2012 14:36

Thinking of it, I'm actually quite gutted. We haven't been to Paris yet and now won't have the chance as the OP has claimed it as her own. :(

waltermittymissus · 18/04/2012 14:40

Wind up??

waltermittymissus · 18/04/2012 14:40

As in: is this a wind up??

makinglemonade · 18/04/2012 14:41

Assuming you have read your own post and realised you are being rediculous and have gone into hiding??

Good - because it is mine, all MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel a bit guilty about the OP now - it was her first ever post and we've probably scared her off.

Sorry MMJ, I was in Venice thirty years ago, it's mine.

fluffiphlox · 18/04/2012 16:01

Sorry, I was in Venice in 1973. I am very old

TandB · 18/04/2012 16:08

Someone at my baby group just came back from Paris. No point you going now, OP, it's already been done.

Pandemoniaa · 18/04/2012 16:12

I'm utterly bored with Barcelona now. It appears that simply anyone can go there. Some of us have clearly owned Venice for ages too.

How about Canvey Island, OP? Very few people seem keen to claim exclusive rights over it and there's the added thrill of having to cross water to get there. Just like Paris really. But with all the exclusivity of, er, Canvey Island.

Are you going for yourself or to be seen to be going and impress people?

It doesn't matter if they're chartering a private jet there, it takes nothing away from your trip, which is you and your husband going on your 'once in a lifetime' trip.

It's not a competition. You aren't going to have a less nice time because someone else is going.

Just enjoy your trip.

KurriKurri · 18/04/2012 16:18

You may have been there in 1973 Fluffiphlox - but did you bling it? - I certainly did Grin

fluffiphlox · 18/04/2012 16:22

I'm not sure that bling had come to South Wales in 1973. It was a school trip and I had two pairs of trousers for the week!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 18/04/2012 16:22

Actually sorry kurri and tmmj my father used to live in Italy just after and during the war, so it is mine (by birth right)

Also NY is mine too.

DuelingFanjo · 18/04/2012 16:34

yeah, right!

LilRedWG · 18/04/2012 21:23

tmmj - I like it, but you shall never know as I will not allow you to go! :-p
