For being annoyed with SIL

For my 30th I had planned to go to Paris with DH as a once in a lifetime weekend! Away from kids too...was so excited

Then found out from someone else that SIL and BIL are planning to go the month after me just cos they can...they knew I was going and they'll bling it too so my birthday weekend won't look so special

Really annoyed :(

In the nicest possible way profitez de la vie OP Grin

DesperatelySeekingBunnies · 17/04/2012 22:01

You could look at this way: they are copying you. You set a trend, you got there first. Everytime they talk about their trip, just say in a really bored voice, "yeah been there/did that..."even if you didn't go to that particular place.

You could behave that way. Hey, you're acting like a sulky 9 year old anyway Hmm

Alargeglassofred · 17/04/2012 22:06

I blame the euro star. Has made paris available to the 'massiv'

KurriKurri · 17/04/2012 22:06

I blame the parents.

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 17/04/2012 22:08

Sorry what now Confused

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 17/04/2012 22:09

Blimey love you're only 30 bit early to be talking about "once in a lifetime" trips. You can go again one day you know , and do lots of other things that are special and magical for you and DH. Oh and you do sound like a petulant child in your OP

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 17/04/2012 22:15

Just in case this is real and not a reverse AIBU.

By 'bling it' do you mean they will spend more money and take showier pictures for the Facebook bragging session that will inevitably take place on their return (or perhaps during their trip if they are serious gloaters)?

In that case, do this. Either make a big deal of the fact that you went all the way to Paris but didn't leave your hotel room because you were having such a fantastic time in bed, with fabulous meals from room service which you ate in your luxury four poster or enormous jacuzzi bath and of course you do have photos but they are for your and your DH's eyes only if they know what you mean.

Or latch on to a couple of random but glamourous strangers for a quick photo and then rave about the fabulous friends you made who took you to all the exclusive little places the locals use to get away from all the tourists and how you unfortunately cannot tell SIL where they are because your glamourous Parisian native friends took you so you never actually got the addresses etc. But they had the best wine and tastiest cheese and most delicious champagne and breathtaking views etc.

Or just have a great time together doing things you enjoy and if you remember to you can pity the people who feel the need to go all the way to Paris and 'bling it' just so they can convince themselves their lives are better than yours.

Salmotrutta · 17/04/2012 22:15

Parisiens will look down their noses at blingy people anyway OP so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

MeconiumHappens · 18/04/2012 11:52

YABU. Their holiday doesnt make yours any less special! Dont be a wally op.

boschy · 18/04/2012 12:15

I'm thinking your 30th birthday must be quite a long way off, and you are now in fact about 12??

HipHopOpotomus · 18/04/2012 12:18

Guess what - I've got some really bad news for you. Loads of couples weekend in Paris!! So if you really want to be "special" you will have to pick somewhere no one else will go, so it can be uniquely yours and therefore "special".

This must be one of those reverse AIBU's right?

Icelollycraving · 18/04/2012 12:19

Yabu,petulant & frankly ridiculous.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 18/04/2012 12:21

What the actual ??? Confused

Seriously, get a life!

scarletforya · 18/04/2012 12:51

'once in a lifetime' trip!? You can go to Beauvais Paris on Ryanair in 50 minutes for 99 cents or something! Confused

5Foot5 · 18/04/2012 13:12

Anyway you will only get your pocket picked. Happens nearly every time IME

Shutupanddrive · 18/04/2012 13:36

Yabu Hmm

boredandrestless · 18/04/2012 13:43

The things people get all annoyed about just astounds me at times! YABU Hmm

diddl · 18/04/2012 13:44

That´s one of the most ridiculous saddest things I´ve read.

That the trip now means nothing to you as better off(?) relies are going soon after.

EmptyBotheredPocket · 18/04/2012 13:48

Yabu.

sooperdooper · 18/04/2012 13:54

Don't be ridiculous, you don't own Paris because you're going - how long afterwards would it be acceptable??? :o

oldraver · 18/04/2012 13:59

Netmums is that way >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

HandMadeTail · 18/04/2012 14:12
