FIL gave dh a freshly caught trout, gutted and deboned it, and dh is cooking it this evening,as PIL are coming for evening meal. I have a big food thing where I cant eat food that has eyes, or looks like its alive, as this obviously does [vom] (in which he is serving on a fish plate, eyes, fins and all]

I have cod here, which I have said I will eat instead, but apparently I am being massively unreasonable, and FIL will be massively offended.

WhoIBU, I didn't ask or what the stoopid fish, I had already planned this weeks meal, which includes non staring fish!!!

OP, I would venture that you ARE a vegetarian, you just haven't accepted it yet. Grin I was exactly the same about eating meat and then I decided that I just wasn't going to anymore. Best decision ever.

Slightly different problem here - ILs are coming to visit at end of May and they are avid carnivores, DH will be working a lot and the cooking will fall to me. I will not cook meat! Should be interesting....

I do eat a lot of vegetarian/vegan food, and my food faux is quite high, no fat, no grisle, no bones, no eyes, not looking like the animal etc... however I do enjoy the occasional red meat, especially a well done steak.

Wont eat lamb,or baby animals, sausages, mince, or any crap processed meat. how fussy am I, actually reading this I sound nuts haha.

Ooooo that should be interesting, I wonder if you make alot of minced quorn meals, like spag bol, lasagna, and fill it with mushrooms, peppers, carrots etc... that they even notice its not meat?

I'm with you re fish with eyes-I hate having to see it.My menfolk are very obliging and remove head, tail fins etc before bringing it to the table.Your fil is a prize berk of the first order.

ifancyashandy · 16/04/2012 23:14

'Enjoy' & 'well done steak' are words that should never appear together!

'Walk it through a warm room' is the correct response to 'how would you like your steak cooked?' Grin

OP, you should definitely become a vegetarian!

YADNBU. You're not stopping them from eating it. Personally I don't understand your phobia, but you are entitled to eat whatever you want. If they want to get huffy and offended let them.

boschy · 17/04/2012 09:10

your FIL laughed? what a horrible man

NurseJennyLee · 17/04/2012 09:24

I don't think you were being unreasonable. Aside from the head and eyes issues, trout stinks. I'd be vomiting at the cooking smell alone, and I like fish.
