This isnt really me so more of a who is being unreasonable . Dont really want to give to much info as it's such a pathetic situation I doubt it's happened to anyone else .

At a party at the end of the night :

Man 1 "man 2 is an idiot"

Man two phones man one two days later
Man 2 "what's that all about blah blah blah"
Man 1 "what you talking about"
Man 2 "you said I was an idiot blah blah blah"
Man 1 "man 2 I really can't remember saying that but I'm really sorry I've offended you I dont think that blah blah blah
Man 2 "I don't accept your apology and I will never speak to you again"
Man 1 then phones man 2's wife to apologise to her (who he apparently said this idiot comment to) wife accepts apology says there is no ill feeling .

Who is in the wrong here ? TIA wise MNers :)

crazynanna · 14/04/2012 00:01

WorraLiberty · 14/04/2012 00:02

Man my head hurts

TheNewMrsC · 14/04/2012 00:04

Mine too and I actually know what I'm talking about ! It's not very clear is it ? I thought it would be easier than putting a big story in !

I would have liked to help but I am too drunk tired to advise.

This is why I do not socialise with people other than DH and the DC. They are all complicated enough.

You sound nice though. I hope you have not been unreasonable.

QuintessentialShadows · 14/04/2012 00:05

Mans wife. Or his goat.

AgentZigzag · 14/04/2012 00:06

Was man 1 saying this to man 2s wife when she was complaining about him?

If that was the case he should have known better Grin

Overall, I would say man 1 is in the wrong for telling the blokes wife.

It's understandable she told her DH, and it's understandable he questioned man 1 about it and was upset.

But like Loopy says, beer is a false friend and can provide a plausible exuse for saying twattish things.

So nobody was really Grin

TheNightIsDarkAndFullOfTerrors · 14/04/2012 00:08

God I am in awe of the people who understand the situation.

oldqueenie · 14/04/2012 00:09

man oh man.

Salmotrutta · 14/04/2012 00:09

Are you Man 2's wife?

Or Man 1's wife?

If neither - why do you care?

Birdsgottafly · 14/04/2012 00:09

My drunken nights out usually end in me body blocking man1 from beating the crap out of man2 and dodging punches. Then we all have to hide (usually in bushes) when the police are called, because we all have to pass CRB checks. Then the next week we do it all over again.

So to be honest, i don't see why it's still an issue. If that's a 'fuckup' in your world, i wish i lived there.

TheNewMrsC · 14/04/2012 00:10

Ok what I mean to say is who is more in the wrong ?
does the punishment fit the crime ?
Does one silly comment like this justify two families having spent three years not speaking to each other ?

OP posts:
QuintessentialShadows · 14/04/2012 00:13

They are both in the wrong.
The first for saying the other is an idiot. The second for taking it to heart.

poorbuthappy · 14/04/2012 00:13

Man 2 must be the idiot cos his wife thinks so!!
I think, hang on... Confused
I'll read it again.

Salmotrutta · 14/04/2012 00:14

Well, you didn't say anything about punishment!!

Was Man 1 sent to Devil's Island?

Did Man 2 get sentenced for GBH on Man 1?

Was anyone transported to Australia?

Why am I asking these questions?

TheNewMrsC · 14/04/2012 00:15

agent no one knows exactly how it was said as man 1 can't remember and man 2's story has changed a few times.

Also don't know if man 2's wife told him or he heard it , that's never been clarified either .

And I'm neither of their wives but related to both .

Salmotrutta · 14/04/2012 00:15

OK - I'm bored now.

QuintessentialShadows · 14/04/2012 00:15

Think I finally know why the hapless Scot is meandering the streets of the friggin Arctic in his kilt, frrrrreeezing his manhood off......

WorraLiberty · 14/04/2012 00:15

Birds I'm actually crying with laughter here!! Grin

TheSockPuppet · 14/04/2012 00:16

Man 1 is unreasonable -

if man 2 isnt an idiot then man 1 shouldnt have said that (especially to his wife)

If man 2 is an idiot then he should have been honest with him and said the next day, "yes I apologise for how it cane across but I do think you are intellectually challenged"

AgentZigzag · 14/04/2012 00:16

It's about trust.

If they'd been friends for a long time and out of the blue man 2 hears the other bloke's said he thinks he's an idiot behind his back, it can't help but change how he'd think about him.

Wouldn't it you? If you found out someone you liked and who you thought liked you, was calling you an idiot?

It wouldn't make you think they actually liked you, especially if you wondered whether people speak their mind more when they're drunk.

TheNewMrsC · 14/04/2012 00:16

quint ... what ???Confused

bucketbetty · 14/04/2012 00:17
