This isnt really me so more of a who is being unreasonable . Dont really want to give to much info as it's such a pathetic situation I doubt it's happened to anyone else .

At a party at the end of the night :

Man 1 "man 2 is an idiot"

Man two phones man one two days later
Man 2 "what's that all about blah blah blah"
Man 1 "what you talking about"
Man 2 "you said I was an idiot blah blah blah"
Man 1 "man 2 I really can't remember saying that but I'm really sorry I've offended you I dont think that blah blah blah
Man 2 "I don't accept your apology and I will never speak to you again"
Man 1 then phones man 2's wife to apologise to her (who he apparently said this idiot comment to) wife accepts apology says there is no ill feeling .

Who is in the wrong here ? TIA wise MNers :)

I have said that I don't like to socialise but now I really want to go out drinking with Birds Grin

balia · 14/04/2012 00:18

Ooh - is it the new plot for a soap or something?

I think further forms of communication are beyond either of them, and it is wise to leave them like that in case they cause actual damage.

QuintessentialShadows · 14/04/2012 00:20

Birds, yours slightly beats me and dh going out, him dressed in my best skirt, stuffed bra and party wig, just for him to be chatted up by a bouncer, and both of us having to run for dear life and hide behind a petrol station.

MissFaversham · 14/04/2012 00:21

Anything said in drink doesnt count in my book so end of story Grin

Man 2 is an idiot. I know him. He is Mr Idiot from Idiotsville.

Salmotrutta · 14/04/2012 00:31

I was just redressing the balance.

Birdsgottafly · 14/04/2012 00:36

Quint- i would like to say that we have never done that in fancy dress, but we all drink to ridiculous levels and are quite explosive.

OP- no that isn't a reason not to speak, not even for three days.

TheNewMrsC · 14/04/2012 00:39

I just think yes , man 1 should not have said what he said it was wrong . But he apologised to man 2 and his wife .

I think not accepting a perfectly good apology is worse than calling someone an idiot. I've called loads of people idiots . I've never threw an apology back in someones face .

I see that you have ignored my wish to go out with you Birds and simultaneously raised the stakes by mentioning fancy dress and drinking to ridiculous levels!

You can't make people be alright about something OP, it's entirely up to them.

If you've never thrown an apology back in someones face, does that mean people can do whatever the fuck they want to you because they know you'll be OK with it if they apologise?

The situation in the OP could be more about not wanting to lose face after all this time. It's got so entrenched that there's no easy way of backing down and admitting it was probably an OTT reaction.

How well do you get on with the blokes? Would it be a subject you could bring up?

AgentZigzag · 14/04/2012 00:52
mynewpassion · 14/04/2012 01:05

Man 1 for being the idiot who got drunk, spouted off, and now have started a bad chain reaction.

Birdsgottafly · 14/04/2012 01:34

The Night- when you have to figure in personalised 'sorry' moonpig cards into your drinking kitty, it ceases to be a joke, plus you have to wear shoes that you can run (and hide) in and no easily breakable jewelery

Not good when you're in your fourties.
