Does DH have weird ideas about cooking?

I Love dh I really do but when he says he's going to 'suprise' me by making tea I have cold sweats, but rather than hurt his feelings or take over I just let him get on with it.
Tonights concuction: (FOR ME) fried egg and beans on hot cross bun!
previously I've had gamon with pasta and rice with bolognase sauce and peas.
I'm suffering with the flu at the moment so I suppose if it wasn't for him I would be eating at all.

ah bless. it sounded fine until the hot cross bun, euch. but at least he is trying. hope you feel better soon.

onemoreminute · 10/04/2012 19:00

Sounds lovely Hmm :)

Does he eat and enjoy it?

CockyPants · 10/04/2012 19:00

Does he use every kitchen utensil going?
Does place look like a bomb site after he's cooked??
Which you then have to clean up, so that job is done properly?
Bloke once cooked chicken and grapes...
I haven't let him cook again....

NettoSuperstar · 10/04/2012 19:00

Weirdy weird.
You need takeaway.

RightUpMyRue · 10/04/2012 19:00

Wow, he's...um...unconvential...Smile

SimplySoo · 10/04/2012 19:02

On hot cross bun?! blimey. Is he playing a game of "don't make me cook, here's the horrors you end up with"?

iklboo · 10/04/2012 19:03

Does he fancy himself as the next Heston Bloomingheck?

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/04/2012 19:04

Buy some bento boxes and make him serve all food in separate compartments. That way you can have egg and beans... then a hot cross bun.

pepperrabbit · 10/04/2012 19:04

perhaps he's experimenting with the juxtaposition of sweet and savoury flavours?
or maybe he's a bit crap but trying hard Grin

DuchessofHaphazard · 10/04/2012 19:05

Sounds like my DH. I have to ban him from the kitchen when I'm cooking or else he'll help out by adding random ingredients, plus often an absolute shedpile of pepper, regardless of what I'm cooking or whether pepper has already been added. The last one was the majority of a jar of horseradish to a tomato and onion based pasta sauce. Envy

UnChartered · 10/04/2012 19:06

not Michelin star but perfectly edible food IMO

what's the problem?

UnChartered · 10/04/2012 19:07

apart from the hot x bun. did he think perhaps it was a bagel?

E320 · 10/04/2012 19:07

He is making an effort and using what is available. Sounds adorable and just put what you don't fancy to the side of the plate, politely?
Lucky you, the most my husband ever made was coffee...

sneezecake · 10/04/2012 19:09

strangely enough he doesn't like hot cross buns!! I don't think I do anymoreGrin He said his gamon thing was really nice Hmm
MIL is an excellent cook everything is so yummy (except egg custard) and I think he thinks that as ahe taught him to cook he has the golden touch too!

Bloke here at CP Towers makes shit cofftea...

griffikb · 11/04/2012 00:47

Sounds a little like my DP, who thinks that it's perfectly acceptable to toast a cinnamon and raisin bagel, top it with grilled cheese and a fried egg for breakfast... But still tells me I can't have a hot cross bun for breakfast because it's "too early for sweet things"!

galletti · 11/04/2012 00:54

I like savoury on hot cross buns. But usually just stick at cheddar, or if I'm being really weird, blue cheese. Don't think even I would run to egg and beans. He sounds lovely though. LOL at griffikb!

HalfPastWine · 11/04/2012 00:58

That sounds quite tasty griffikb - I think I'll give that one a whirl.

Peppapigsarse · 11/04/2012 01:04

Ermmmm yes I've had some odd combinations cooked for me as well!!!!

My best trick is to get him to follow a recipe however he always doubles spice/chilli/salt etc....Angry

However he usually gets me when I'm having I can't be asked to cook tonight mode/or feeling blurgh and haven't got anything planned/out of freezer!Biscuit

You have my sympathy!!!

iklboo · 11/04/2012 01:04

I'll admit to a toasted teacake with a chunk of mature cheddar on the side. That's lush.

MmeBucket · 11/04/2012 01:07

That sounds like some sort of bad pregnancy craving. :)

AwkwardMaryHadAnEasterLamb · 11/04/2012 01:07

GAh! Now I have to go and make a hot cross bun with cheese on it just because I have never tried it and it sounds amazing!

Goolash · 11/04/2012 01:52

Hot cross bun with mature cheddar is divine, fruit and cheese is one of those classic combinations.

Egg and beans!!! Very odd, why? oh why?

Whoever said chicken and grapes, I do have a recipe for whole chicken stuffed with grapes and it was very nice. You then added wine to the juices to make the gravy.

Fraktal · 11/04/2012 07:13

Gammon pasta with a cheese sauce is nice!

I've also done rice and ragu. And hot cross bun and cheese but bit with egg and beans Hmm
