To be doubting whether this is really happening?

I'm a regular under a name change for what I hope will become obvious reasons.

I got my bfp yesterday on clearblue plus. In the supermarket loo while dp did the shop - fmu and it was to only place open . This pg is the first for us both and is very much wanted, but 2-5 years earlier than planned.

I want to tell my parents that we're expecting their first grandchild. This will be my IL's fourth, so fractionally less exciting. Actually, I want to shout it from the rooftops!

AIBU to not be quite convinced until I see a dr (probably tomorrow)? AIBU to not tell my parents for another 24 hours or so? And AIBU to have namechanged because I don't want mn or anyone else to know before the magic 12 weeks?

I don't know what a 'bfp' is but presumably it's a positive result?

YANBU, you don't have to go rushing out an telling anyone...if anything you should plan the moment because you'll never forget telling them.

Congratulations! I did about 4 tests and still didn't really believe it until I saw the scan.

The doctor won't do anything so you don't need to wait for them. You tell when you want. 2-5 years early is a bit of a stretch .

I did 12 tests before telling anyone! The GP won't do another test, so that blue line is good to go!

It's common not to believe it - and a doctor won't confirm anything, they just take your word for it!

I don't think the doctor will issue you with another test to confirm it, if that's what you mean, though. But you will get "booked in" as pregnant.

Disagree that the doctor won't do another test. I went in with a positive result and he said kindly 'let's see shall we' and gave me a test to do in the surgery toilet. He wasn't doubting my word for it, just double checking!

Congratulations! I might wait a little while before telling parents if you don't want anyone else to know before 12 weeks - can you rely on the parents not to blab? My in-laws told eveyone they knew within days!

I did two tests because I didn't believe it. And continued not to believe it until I saw the baby on the scan (despite being horribly sick). I was convinced I'd get in there and they'd scan me and say 'What are you doing here? There's no pregnancy - you just need better hygiene and you'll be fine!'
Doctor booked me in on my say-so which scared me!
Up to you when you tell people but it will stay with you so plan it a bit.

It would be really unusual for a doctor to do another test, they would normally just get you referred.
In some areas you can self-refer to a midwife, but it sounds like you have plenty of time to get it sorted out.
And you dont have to rush to tell anyone. Quite nice to have a little secret sometimes.

I used to think that doctors would testing again, but mine said that supermarket tests were exactly the same as NHS ones.

My mum will probably blab, but I trust the people she'll blab to iyswim so I don't mind.

Just got in from plant shopping with them and dp and I both had to discreetly walk away after a particularly ironic comment about gooseberry bushes. Guess what present they'll be getting in the next few days

These tests work by detecting HCG in your urine, you only ever produce this when you are pregnant. They are very precise and i have never heard of a false positive, false negatives maybe but not a false positive. CONGRATULATIONS XXXXXX

You can't get a false positive so start believing! Congratulations

I did about 20 tests :) Partly to check it was true, partly because I loved seeing them go positive, and mainly because I am a bit loopy :)

YANBU - It's big news. It's your news and you don't have to tell anyone till you are ready. It's lovely news but it can take a while to sink in. The 12 week scan will blow your socks off :)

Give your surgery a ring first, explain you've had a positive pregnancy test and ask when they want to see you. Mine don't do pregnancy appointments until 8 weeks - but they're all different.

I can't remember about the GP - but as for telling relatives- it is kind of nice to keep it to yourselves for a few days/weeks :)

You don't need to see the GP at all, just get yourself booked in with the community midwife. She'll probably do a booking-in appointment at around 8-9 weeks, take some bloods and generally get you in the system.

This made me :) remembering how I told my parents they were going to become grandparents for the first time - I held out for a month waiting for my mum's birthday, then gave her a 'To Grandma' card. Will never forget her face and DS is 10 next month
