to hate breakfast in bed?

Crumbs in the sheets

In danger of knocking something over and getting OJ all over the bed

Having to prop yourself up on pillows rather than sitting at a table with a chair - things which were specifically designed for eating.

DS is threatening breakfast in bed to wind me up for Mothers' Day. Luckily he won't though, because he's a lazy git.

Ah! that reminds me. It's that time of year when I have to show my DH of nearly 8 years how to make coffee (the way I like it and without a teaspoon left in it!)

YANBU. I HATE breakfast in bed but I am also fortunate enough to have a DH who would not dream of doing that. As for coffee in bed - that's another thing. I demand that twice a year - Mother's Day and birthday (mine).

My pet hate. Dear departed MiL had breakfast in bed every day and when I went to stay with them FiL was most put out that I wanted to get up at 6am, get dressed and start the day as MiL never woke before ten and didn't get out of bed til at least eleven...just in time for her first glass of gin.

maisie215 · 16/03/2012 18:17

Yanbu. I hate it too. Like barbecues and roast dinners it is highly overrated.

Frontpaw · 16/03/2012 18:18

I'm happy if I get a cuppa

DS is sweet though when he makes my breakfast - usually a buttered piece of bread, a pot of yoghut and a pile of cough sweets (from the jar in the kitchen). I have had a smiley-face on bread made from jelly beans once.

GavisconJunkie · 16/03/2012 18:18

YANBU!!! For all the very good reasons you said. Bleurgh.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 16/03/2012 18:19

YANBU! I hate it too. Eating in bed is just wrong, especially when it's forced upon you before you have even had a chance to wee.

Pancakeflipper · 16/03/2012 18:21

I hate it too. I am just not hungry enough when I wake up. I need a wee, a shower, clean knickers and some deodorant on before I can face food.

BitchyNoMore · 16/03/2012 18:23

Dc hand craft breakfast concoctions

I don't mind breakfast in bed. A lovely cup of coffee is really nice. But ds' idea of breakfast is usually some thing odd like a salad sandwich which takes a strong constitution to even consider eating

HolyCalamityJane · 16/03/2012 18:29

YANBU all I want is a bloody lie in instead there will be a knock on the door at 7am with a piece of burnt toast and a cup of coffee. Will need to practise my Grin face!

thestringcheesemassacre · 16/03/2012 18:29

Tea, yes.

Breakfast no. Agree with pancake. I need wee, clothes, some waking up time etc. And I can't bear cold toast.

CremeEggThief · 16/03/2012 18:34

Blimey! I love breakfast in bed, so much that I even make it for myself sometimes, and if it's for Mother's Day, it's someone else's job to get rid of the crumbs :).

SwedishEdith · 16/03/2012 18:35

It's always tepid as well. Reality never matches the idea. Hoping for fresh churros on Sunday Ditto bbqs being overrated but not roast dinners Shock

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 16/03/2012 18:37

I love breakfast in bed and would live a cuppa and a bacon butty in bed but I just want to stay in bed tbh

Yy to a cup of tea. Nn to breakfast in bed (maybe a bit of fruit in a bowl if it's brought up to me with the tea but no toast etc.)

Yanbu

TheFallenMadonna · 16/03/2012 18:41

I have breakfast in bed most Saturdays and Sundays. Fab.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/03/2012 18:45

I would love breakfast in bed if fucking dd and dh didn't insist on being there while I ate/drank it.

if they fucked off and I could mumsnet drink coffee and eat almond croissant without trying to 'plan our day' Hmm it would be great

In fact last year dd brought me coffee and while I sat up bleary-eyed she asked me to get dressed quick and take her to Scout church parade (at 7am)

Goldrill · 16/03/2012 18:46

YANBU. I always get cold and i hate eating without undies on.

MardyBra · 16/03/2012 18:46

Mmm. Almond croissant.
I need to start laying hints now, don't I?

Busybusybust · 16/03/2012 20:44

YANBU - i bloody hate breakfast in bed! What's to like? Crumbs in bed, having to sit up enough to eat, cold toast, wrongly made coffee.....I could go on.....

Get ready for it girls...... Mothers Day again.......! Grin

Mine are grown up and have left home - and you know what? This year I would qute like breddie in bed!

Contrary or what?!!!!!!

RightUpMyRue · 16/03/2012 20:48

I hate it too. I want to get up and make my own tea, the way I like it. Then I want to drink it in peace and then have a poo. Any deviation from that routine upsets me greatly.

thegreylady · 16/03/2012 20:53

I have breakfast in bed every single day if we are home.Dh likes to get up early and read the paper over breakfast and I get a lovely tray. When I was working I once said how much I enjoyed the occasional b in b and for the last 10 years I have been given it.
I am asked what I would like to eat and it is brought on a lap tray.Nothing gets spilled and the cup of tea and a piece of toast is brought after the main thing and juice.I really love it.

TheArmadillo · 16/03/2012 20:54

YANBU op for all the reasons you said plus as others have said I need to get up, showered, dressed etc before even before I even start thinking about food.

I hate breakfast in bed - thankfully my lot have never even suggested it.

Bogeyface · 16/03/2012 21:00

breakfast in bed is ok (ish) as a once a year thing to keep the kids happy, if IF I get half an hour to wake up first! Its the waking up and being expected to eat that I hate, and its usually a cooked breakfast so I have to eat it asap!

But they do it with love, so I suck it up and thank them effusively :)
