To ask other mums on MN not to use the F word?

I am a newbie. I find that F word is peppered in a lot of the threads. I used to swear a lot but I have stopped completely because I realize it's common, and makes a woman sound undignified. Is it too much, ladies, to ask you not to use F-ing thsi and F-ing that? Can't we adults discuss things without resorting to sailor language? Thank you.

I don't think there's any need to chuck obscenities about left, right and centre. We have a rich and beautiful language and many, many ways to express ourselves. Constant effing and blinding is boring.

But. I think what's really rude is walking into a room full of strangers who all know each other and are happily chatting away and having a laugh, and standing yourself on a table, yelling OI and then demanding they all change the way they are talking because you've walked in for the first time, off the streets, heard it and have decided it's Simply Not On.

Just on page two but when op talks about "faculty of language" I assume she means facility in the use of language and is not referring to part of an academic institution. She must learn to use language correctly before criticising others. I feel the op is in the wrong place. Fwiw I don't swear either but each to her own I say.

fuck like any other swear words are just words. it doesnt matter what the word is you could yell sugarplums but it would still mean the same thing. it is all about context.

RaspberryPi - you came to this site, took a look around and noted the swearing. That was surely the time to consider whether it's the site for you. I don't swear much at all and rarely in my posts. However, I really enjoy it here, find the posts informative/reassuring/funny so just deal with it. If it bothered me, I would find another site. Without wishing to be rude to you, perhaps you should? It's a little rich to ask others to modify their behaviour when perhaps they have been using the site a good deal longer than you.
