Is no longer "the home of BU"

I don't catch trains often but last time I was here I had a quiet snigger Grin

Northey · 08/03/2012 14:04

Oh God, I don't get it Blush

thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 14:08

i dont get it and am very close to Bournemouth station,am i missing out

Northey · 08/03/2012 14:09

Is it short for "bugger you" or something?

TheJiminyConjecture · 08/03/2012 14:10

The home of Being Unreasonable?

Giyadas · 08/03/2012 14:12

ooh, I get it

thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 14:13

oh,god awful pace anyway, your only 3 feet away fom a junkie or wino,or working lady round there

PurplePidjin · 08/03/2012 14:15

Sorry, on train and phone is rubbish

Last year the big Bournemouth University advert said "The home of BU" and now it doesn't, some other claptrap.

My nearest big town will forever in my mind be the home of Being Unreasonable Grin

OP posts:
Northey · 08/03/2012 14:17

Oh I see. I get it.

Giyadas · 08/03/2012 14:18

Bournemouth ; It's an Unreasonable place.

thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 14:21

should of kept the poster by the sounds of it,god knows theres some unreasonable buggers here, lol

PurplePidjin · 08/03/2012 14:21

Really, thekidsrule? Are you intimately acquainted with every single street within a 5 mile radius that you çan give such a sweeping generalisation?

In the real world it's like any large urban area with bits that are deprived and bits that aren't.

OP posts:
Giyadas · 08/03/2012 14:25

I miss the old guy from the town centre, with his 3-stringed guitar Sad
He was unfailingly though tunelessly reasonable.

thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 14:55

purple,i think i know the area pretty well,as im sure you no the area where you live

jesus ,you try living in the area or i must be imagining it

i dont need to be told what its like, same as i wouldnt tell you about where you live purple

thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 14:56

Giyadas,i remember him outside the natwest

PurplePidjin · 08/03/2012 15:23

I've only lived in the area for 30 years, what do I know Wink

There are arseholes everywhere, and I would say Bournemouth has it's share, but no worse or better than other town's.

Bye bye lighthearted silly thread!

OP posts:
thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 15:27

so are you saying that theres not a problem in that area then, that was what i was saying

course every town has this, that im not denying

i was stating not the nicest are thats all,in my opinion

anyway thats me done

PurplePidjin · 08/03/2012 15:52

There's definitely a problem, and it's definitely one of the most deprived area of the Bournemouth/Poole conurbation, but it's not the whole of Bournemouth.

OP posts:
thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 15:54

sorry didnt mean whole

ElizabethPonsonby · 08/03/2012 15:59

I went to Bournemouth Uni, spent many a drunken Thursday in the Hothouse nr the Station Grin in fact, tis where me and DP got together [memories emoticon]

PurplePidjin · 08/03/2012 16:03

That top bit between the station and Boscombe has always struggled afaik. Lots of big houses divided into bedsits and rented by unscrupulous landlords to students and people on a low income. I love the Pokesdown end of Boscombe though, and it seems to be going through a bit of a revitalization at the moment, so there is hope :)

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 08/03/2012 16:04

That makes you an alumnus of BU

OP posts:
thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 16:04

i have a student house next to me and think it may have changed to a tuesday as you here the cabs and students going out about 11ish and coming home at 4

but i have to say all the students that have lived there have been fab and very nice,so im happy with the uni, great for the town in many ways

edam · 08/03/2012 16:05

I'm an alumus of BU too. Or, at least, a failure of BU (dropped out after a year)...

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 08/03/2012 16:08

You should try the Crescent in Boscombe for drunks, down and outs and junkies!! (Although its been a loooong time since ive been there - when the 02 used to the Academy and had Benedicts karaoke bar upstairs.)

DH works in a large building close to Asda by the railway station - night shelter nearish - not a nice place to have to wait around - and that is up-to-date info...

But there are loads of really nice parts of town too.

thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 16:09

i love pokesdown lived there in my single days,

had a rather bad experience in the asda near station once when i took my son to the toilet and next door cubicle a syringe fell out of a ladys hand/arm onto the floor entering our cubicle, twas not pleasant

this was before they bought them funny strip lights in where they cant see their veins
