What PMT symptoms do you suffer from?

butterflyexperience · 03/03/2012 00:31

First few months of getting my period back after having dd2 was horrendous.

I honestly felt like I could rip off the heads of any idiots who were stupid enough to cross my path - Dh included -

I also suffered from road rage and would have to really get a grip if myself not to have a fight especially as dc would be with me [shame]

Bloating
Tiredness
General grump and lack of patience

Pmt scares me as I really could end up losing all my friends and perhaps even divorce because I am so irritated with the world.

What's the worse thing you've done whilst having pmt

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 03/03/2012 00:36

I get a little 'down' and that's it.

I have to say if I ever thought I was likely to have an actual fight with anyone or if losing my husband or friends was even the remotest likelihood, I would seek urgent medical help Sad

VelcroFanjo · 03/03/2012 00:39

After my last dc I had black clouds decsend with PMT, really thought I wanted to die. I have been known to punch my partner and have been bloated and suffered from IBS during PMT. Things are better now..I could only murder a biscuit!! Grin

HalfPastWine · 03/03/2012 00:39

Tiredness and feeling spaced out - good job I dont work in Air Traffic Control !!

Paranoia - not so much now but quite a bit in my 20s

Feeling depressed a couple of days before but then it lifts as soon as the period starts.

Boomerwang · 03/03/2012 02:26

I get a bit irritable and unreasonable for one day, and the next day I am just quiet and a bit down. During both days I get that 'I'm so bored but I can't be bothered to do anything' feeling.

I'm lucky that I stopped suffering cramps when I hit my late teens. The pain was so bad before that I couldn't stand up straight.

saffronwblue · 03/03/2012 02:49

Shaky and angry. And irritable. And enraged. Mainly with DH.

WelshMoth · 03/03/2012 07:11

I used to get just a mild cramping before DC, but now I get horrid headaches at the front of my temple, bad abdominal cramping and terrible moodiness and impatience.

WorraLiberty, your post has made me think. I think it's worth a trip to my GP actually since I've been really shouty at my DC the last few periods Sad. Having grim periods is one thing, making others suffer for it is quite a different matter.

hairytaleofnewyork · 03/03/2012 07:11

Extreme irritability and rage. Have you tried evening primrose oil op? Worked wonders for me!

WelshMoth · 03/03/2012 07:17

TMI alert!

I also always, without fail, get the runs for the first day of my period. Bad ones, accompanied my lots more abdominal and bowel cramping Blush.

I didn't start my periods until days before my 16th birthday, so I shouldn't complain I s'pose.

bejeezus · 03/03/2012 07:18

Similar to what you describe with paranoia also. Went on ADs for a while for it. But the most successful thing I have found is homeopathy. I would highly recommend seeing a homeopath. I used to feel like I needed sectioning, all good now, just a bit of bloating

SydSaid · 03/03/2012 07:20

Mine varies from sore boobs to psychopathic rage to emotional breakdown. Psychopathic rage was just after my first baby. It was awful, truly awful. Emotional breakdown tends to be when I've been under a stupid amount of stress. Haven't had that since I handed in my notice at work with a boss that treats people abysmally.

SamuelWestsMistress · 03/03/2012 08:19

Everything you've mentioned there OP!

Plus for 2 days I can't stop eating, and feel constantly hungry. I also suddenly hate everything about my body and the way I look which is frustrating.

I must admit its toned down a bit since I had kids but I do worry about how crazy I'll be through the menopause!

toofattorun · 03/03/2012 08:34

I too get angry with everything and everybody - feel really depressed too and like you OP, get road rage and the urge to kill. I also get cysts and have endometriosis so physically have terrible pain almost all month long.

toofattorun · 03/03/2012 08:36

Sometimes it's hard to be a woman....

"she's in a bad mood - she must be on her period"

accidentprawn · 03/03/2012 08:39

i crave chocolate - have to eat it.
i shout at DD
I give people at work ( colleagues and students) a very hard time
I swear and scream
I once threw a plate at someones head

nobutyeahbut · 03/03/2012 08:46

I get the most awful rage too
I am so short tempered, even with dd's and i find i have to say to them "just give mummy five minutes" when i realise i am shouting at them for the slightest thing, sometimes it is a struggle to be civil to anyone!
I also get very sore boobs, aching legs and quite often i am physically sick and i often eat my bodyweight it chocolate, this is after being sick though!

Laambkins · 03/03/2012 08:57

The shortest fuse known to man...unfortunately, it's my man that knows it more than any other Grin

mumofthreekids · 03/03/2012 09:12

I'm very lucky with PMT and the only thing I notice is that my weight goes up a couple of pounds (presumably water retention).

However, when my periods came back after DC3 I had a few VERY heavy periods - soaking through a super tampax in an hour or two (sorry TMI!) - which was awful. Luckily it only lasted a few months. Hopefully yours will improve too?

I have a theory that my PMT is better because I've never been on the pill (well I tried it for a couple of months but that's it) or any other hormonal method of contraception - can anyone provide any supporting evidence?

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDawn · 03/03/2012 10:01

I get vile mood swings, and I can almost literally feel it "click" as it goes. I am grumpy and miserable, then all of a sudden I will be murderous, teeth clenching, ready to kill anyone who so much as looks sideways at me Confused, then about six hours later I get weepy, then the rage comes back. Then I get a day of "ok-ish" just a bit lethargic and down, then the next day I start.
I get aches and pains and usually I get constipation and diarrhoea which is fun with only one toilet in the house and six of us living here.

Mrsjay · 03/03/2012 10:07

Tired grumpy , lots of random pain like a sore shoulder and nothing else then something else will hurt,

clumsy spaced out TEARY unreasonable , weird dreams week before and insomnia , Bloating , wind Blush I also have loose bowels .

I fricking love being a woman its such a joy Grin

frownieface · 03/03/2012 10:15

I am still writing a diary for my doctor because she doesn't believe just how bad my pmt is, the list includes:

Anxiety
Depression
Fuzzy head
Indecisiveness - which affects my job!
Anger and I mean red mist anger
Bloating

These symptoms last for about 2 weeks then the second and I mean the second my period starts I am back to normal.

I have some 'women's health' tablets from sainsbos, and they are helping a little. It is a pain in the arse.

sheepgomeep · 03/03/2012 10:40

I get depression, paranoia, red mist anger, bloatedness, teary, aching body, and a couple of days before I start I will get headaches and loose bowels. I feel like shit the first day of my period then I feel fine for two weeks then it all starts again.

worst thing ive done? A couple of years ago I got into a fight with some older teen girls at our local shop in front of dp and two of my dc. These girls were harrassing us but instead of walking away I went for two of them as the red mist decended and I lost control. Yes it was terrible and luckily the girls had the sense to back away but it frightened me badly and I went and got help after that. I went on anti ds for a while which didnt help much but now I try and avoid getting the red mist stage by walking away and whilst I have the pmt making sure I avois situations where I feel might become out of hand.

surfandturf · 03/03/2012 10:57

I stuff my face like the cookie monster and constantly whine to DH that 'you never tell me you love me!'

Actually, maybe it's not just when I'm on my period...!

Mrsjay · 03/03/2012 13:45

Oh yes the eating i keep walkers in Business for the week i eat so much crisps too much , i also crave crackers and cheese , and ryvita and more crisps , god sake now im hungry Grin

shewhowines · 03/03/2012 13:52

I get exactly the same as you WelshMoth but I bet you wrote "the runs" because you couldn't spell the other - Same as me!

shewhowines · 03/03/2012 13:55

Oh and you too sheep - loose bowels. I'm glad it's not just me who can't spell the D word.
