What PMT symptoms do you suffer from?

First few months of getting my period back after having dd2 was horrendous.

I honestly felt like I could rip off the heads of any idiots who were stupid enough to cross my path - Dh included -

I also suffered from road rage and would have to really get a grip if myself not to have a fight especially as dc would be with me [shame]

Bloating
Tiredness
General grump and lack of patience

Pmt scares me as I really could end up losing all my friends and perhaps even divorce because I am so irritated with the world.

What's the worse thing you've done whilst having pmt

My tip is to take magnesium. Just 100% RDA. A lot of multivitamin/mineral tablets only have 33%.

It more than halved my symptoms, both physical and psychological. It's a one a day job though, rather than taken just around your period.

The one time I ran out and didn't get any more for a while, I had a miserable period.

Mrsjay · 03/03/2012 14:01

I cant spell the D word either i have loose bowels its a bit more polite than having the SH..TS

Boomerwang · 03/03/2012 14:01

Oh yeah I get teh bad shitz too Blush

Ephiny · 03/03/2012 14:08

The headache is the worst symptom for me, continuous headache for two days, painkillers don't have any effect. It tends to finally go when my period starts properly - just in time for the cramps/pains to take over Hmm.

Greenshirt · 03/03/2012 14:11

Murderous,irritable,suicidal,weepy,fat,achy and starving.

fotheringhay · 03/03/2012 14:18

I get irritable and start feeling like everything's wrong with my life (I could've just put dissatisfied couldn't I?!)

Off to buy magnesium asap. Although I'm ttc so hopefully not an issue for a while.

SardineQueen · 03/03/2012 14:18

the bad shitz Grin yes me
and sort of down and feeling a bit tearful for a day or two before

NowThenWreck · 03/03/2012 14:19

PMS shouldn't be so bad that you are affecting your relationships with others. I have struggled with it for years including:
from 10 days before period,
Rage and irrational shouting about minor things
Depression
Tiredness
lethargy.

I have found these things helpful, and if I do all of them it helps massively:

Magnesium Citrate
Evening primrose 1000 mgs a day
No alchohol from the 10 day before mark.
Eating slow release carbs-think porridge rather than toast.
Cutting way down on sugar. You want sugar, but it's the worst thing. I east dried apricots, grapes, etc instead.
Red meat.
St Johns Wort.
Sex!(even with yourself..)

WelshMoth · 03/03/2012 14:20

I get exactly the same as you WelshMoth but I bet you wrote "the runs" because you couldn't spell the other - Same as me!

Grin Yep.

NowThenWreck · 03/03/2012 14:21

Oh, and the evening primrose and magnesium should be taken through the whole month.

I gad terrible PMT after my daughter, never suffered from it before. I would hate my husband for the week before build up and I knew I did but always felt I could justify it!

Anyway, a friend who also suffered gave me advice on how she conquered it - 'mirena coil'. I'd never had the coil before and wasn't keen on the idea, my husband has had the snip so it wasn't a contraceptive plus. Had it fitted 18months ago and the result has been fab (& hardly any loss during periods which is a plus).

Highly recommend it!

Avenged · 03/03/2012 16:10

I get bloated (about 1-2lbs of water retention) and that's it really.

JamRagRolyPoly · 03/03/2012 16:16

I actually get so down that I feel my life is hopeless, I feel suicidal for the first two days, its horrible.

I also get the usual bloating, rattiness, spots, rage, cramps, nausea, diarrhoea etc

Deux · 03/03/2012 16:20

I went to my GP before Christmas as I felt so bloody awful. I was really run down, had a terrible low mood and horrendous PMT that lasted for a week. Awful sore breasts, furiously angry. Horrendous acne too. Was prescribed ADs but that was a disaster as had extreme adverse reaction.

Anyway, GP ran some blood tests including one for Vitamin D. I was astonished to discover I had a severe vitamin d deficiency. Didn't see that one coming at all.

Prescribed massive dose of vit D and started taking it. Within four days my skin miraculously cleared up and I felt massively better. I wasn't expecting it to make much difference to PMT but astonishingly it did. Breast tenderness was barely noticeable and whilst I felt a little bit sluggish I didn't have any bloating or mad crazy moods.

I'm frankly stunned. Done lots of reading on vitamin d and I hadn't realised how important it is. The stats are quite shocking. Between 60% and 90% of UK population is deficient, apparently.

haha yes I get wasted very quickly if I'm due on. There's been a few times I've puked up after consuming an amount that would normally make me only tipsy.

bleedingheart · 03/03/2012 16:48

Rattiness, sensitive, migraines for two days before period starts, salt cravings, cramps, can put on up to 7lbs with bloating, walk into door frames, forget how to spell, angry and irrational, achy knees, achy hips...

Mrsjay · 03/03/2012 17:02

oh yes i only had a few vodkas last weekend was due on I mean 4/5 and i was drunk normally i would just be tipsy , I was slurring My H just sighed and put me to bed Grin i got my period on the sunday ,

2rebecca · 03/03/2012 18:57

Slightly more emotional but nothing significant. I need fewer covers in bed as well.

RubyFakeNails · 03/03/2012 19:16

I turn into a hideous, raging, hungry bitch.

I can easily eat my own weight in sugar and more in chocolate and oil.

I am pissed off with the world, including myself. My usual road and commuter rage spirals. Although the day I get my period aways have a little cry over something insignificant.

I'm bloated, get spots, always on my chin, find my hair needs to be washed more often and its always when I least want to look like shit. Then looking oh so attractive I get really and I mean really horny. I went to the GP and he wouldn't do anything said its natural the prick!

aquashiv · 03/03/2012 19:19

Have just eaten my body weight in Ben and Jerrys and i know I am due.

neverputasockinatoaster · 03/03/2012 19:25

I find myself getting really irritable, I suddenyl sense that my jaw is clenched and everything really really pisses me off.

I also get bloated and eat anything not tied down!

bleedingheart · 03/03/2012 20:00

And hot flushes and sore boobs!

redbunnyfruitcake · 03/03/2012 20:26

I currently have PMT from hell that starts a few days after I ovulate until the day my period starts and symptoms include:

Bloating
Painful massive boobs
Tiredness but restless sleep
Irritability, anger, rage
Weight gain
Agoraphobia (possibly due to the fact I want to kill anyone who gets in my way)
Clumsiness

Fortunately it's not this bad every month but it does get me down a bit especially now I have a little one to contend with.
