if I ask my downstairs neighbour to find another window to smoke out of other than his bedroom? It drifts upwards into mine and fucking stinks?

(I can also hear him cough his lungs up every morning at 6am- yum yum- but I'll let that go Grin )

I want to ask him but then was wondering if I'm being an unreasonable twat.

Plus his girlfriend is really hard.

Why not pour water from above onto him? Grin

SydSaid · 27/02/2012 16:37

Close your bedroom window? There are laws about smoking, but he's not breaking any of them and I suspect he'd give you short shrift if you asked.

But it would annoy me too.

KittyAnne · 27/02/2012 16:38

In that case StrandedBear, I'm going to take a dump out my bedroom window at the same time.

I feel your pain. The person currently living in the flat underneath mine smokes like a trooper. The smoke just seems to waft though the floor no matter what room I?m in, drives me mental but nothing I can do. It?s a 120 year old purpose built flat so can?t blame shoddy modern building methods either. I?m thinking of investing in a state of the art (£££) ioniser machine to try and combat it.

I also hear his lovely symphony of phlegm expulsion every morning. He?s only a young guy but listening to him he sounds like Albert Steptoe?s great grandfather.

Frontpaw · 27/02/2012 16:41

Next time he does it, yell 'Gardyloo!' and empty a vase of stinky water over him (take flowers out first!).

So he doesnt want to stink up his own house... and makes your smell smokey. Yuk!

toomanycakestomake · 27/02/2012 16:41

YA so NBU, it's invading your home and your personal space, that's disgusting! You should be able to have your window open without his filthy fag smoke drifting in.

minceorotherwise · 27/02/2012 16:46

Stranded... Is hoise like naice?

KittyAnne · 27/02/2012 16:46

I've LOLed at Gardyloo!
The morning phlegm-fest is utterly revolting.
I wouldn't mind if it was the odd one but he chains them out that bloody window. And closing it in the height of summer isn't fun- or fair.
My friend's neighbour smokes a lot of weed and it seeps into her flat too. She is really worried that visitors will think she's a big stoner.

I totally feel your pain as our neighbour smokes out the back all the time and it drifts into the garden (tiny houses, tiny patios) and in through the kitchen window. But I wouldn't ask her not to do it as i have no right. I totally understand though.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/02/2012 16:50

Oi usual save us two's!

Sarsaparilllla · 27/02/2012 16:50

I feel your pain, my neighbours smoke outside their front door and in the summer if I have the livingroom window open it comes in and stinks, I hate it, I wish I had the guts to complain!!

Frontpaw · 27/02/2012 16:50

I knew o-grade history would come in useful one day!

Take the next occasion to subtly shake out all your (crumb filled) rugs/ table cloths.

Feel your pain. It's ok for smoky joes to say it's his right to smoke. How about your right to a nice clean environment??

KittyAnne · 27/02/2012 16:58

Neither do I usualsuspect. I don't care what people do to themselves. But it amuses me that you feel so defiant and defensive on a thread which isn't attacking your personal choices. It's about a stinking neighbour.

Oh well,We haven't had a ranty anti smoking thread for a while

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/02/2012 17:04

Thanks KittyAnne. I'm 28 and look 18

Surely it's an 'anti cigarette smoke in my non-smoking home' thread.
