To think everyone "suits" their name eventually and so will baby Audrey?

My friend has decided to call her baby girl Audrey and is having a hard time from people saying it's a granny name and she'll get bullied etc. IMO EVERYONE ends up suiting their own name no matter what they're called right?

I think it is lovely.

bigTillyMint · 21/02/2012 19:28

DD has a friend called Audrey - it doesn't sound odd at all!

hackmum · 21/02/2012 19:29

I think it's lovely. I had a friend called Audrey who hated it so much that she changed it, but it always makes me think of Audrey Hepburn - and who could wish for a more gorgeous or glamorous namesake?

StrawberrytallCAKE · 21/02/2012 19:29

I think it's beautiful and reminds me of Audrey Hepburn. In fact I mentioned Audrey on a thread where someone was looking for inspirational women to name their dd after.

ah cross post hackmum

What an absolutely beautiful name. I've had a few hmmms about my DD's name and you know what? I care not at all because I love it and she's mine all mine! Also what the hell is wrong with granny names? Rather Audrey than flaming Chardonnay or whatever passes for a modern name.

redbunnyfruitcake · 21/02/2012 19:33

I love it. My name is Alexa and I hated it when I was at school. I wanted to be called something more ordinary like Sarah but now I love my name. It's still quite unusual for someone in my age group and I think it suits my personality. As for Audrey I immediately think of Audrey Hepburn and it suited her so why not baby Audrey.

FoofFighter · 21/02/2012 19:33

I know of 2 little Audrey's in my circle, one is almost 5 now and one is under 1, it's a gorgeous name and I only think of Hepburn and not Corrie!

danceswithyarn · 21/02/2012 19:33

Audrey will be an adult much longer than she's a baby. Much more important that a name holds up to being "framed" with Dr, Prof, the Rt Hon, QC etc than being cutesy in the playground. I love the name; it belongs to one of my best mates.

I do wonder how the current crop of -ie named girls (also the Alfies etc for the lads) will get on as they grow older and need to be taken seriously in their fields. (and I am one, but I drop the nn at work etc as it's a shortening)

I'm sure Barbie should have been using Barbara by now Wink

Kayzr · 21/02/2012 19:34

I also think of Audrey Hepburn when I hear Audrey. Its a lovely name.

GrahamTribe · 21/02/2012 19:35

I love it. I had a childhood best friend named Audrey, a girl of Jamaican Catholic background. I don't know if the name has associations with either the country or the faith or if it was chosen by her parents just because it's a lovely name, all I do know is that it gives me nothing but positive images.

rubyslippers · 21/02/2012 19:35

It's a beautiful name

People are mean about names

Mrsrobertduvall · 21/02/2012 19:35

I have a friend called Audrey, and it's a lovely name.
I like Audrey in Little Shop of HorrorsSmile

kerala · 21/02/2012 19:36

Good name. Much prefer names like this which will transfer well to an adult woman to the Poppy Honey Molly Daisy brigade - adult women with cutesy baby names is cringeworthy.

AThingInYourLife · 21/02/2012 19:37

Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Tautou

Audrey is a good name.

ReindeerBollocks · 21/02/2012 19:38

I know a woman called Audrey and she is a beautiful and helpful woman, and seems like a lovely person, I think it's a lovey name.

benjalamummy · 21/02/2012 19:38

It's a beautiful name! I love it, and so nice to hear a name that's unusual without being chavvy or spelt in an odd way just to be different.
You should show your friend this thread, not that she needs others to justify her choices but the last thing you need when you've just had a baby is people saying they don't like the name you have chosen.

Ah ...Audrey... the more I think of it the more I like it!!!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 21/02/2012 19:41

I like Audrey.

I don't agree that everyone suits their name though, I've never felt right with mine. It's a perfectly ordinary name, belonged to my great-granny, just never suited me.

I made myself up a nickname as a child, my friends and family call me that instead, I keep my "proper name" for work and official occasions.

scarletforya · 21/02/2012 19:45

I had a neighbour called Audrey and she is lovely. Nicest person ever.

MrsBeakman · 21/02/2012 19:48

Yes Audrey Hepburn and Audrey Tautou is not exactly a boiler either. Nor is she a granny.

mumnotmachine · 21/02/2012 19:48

It was my Mums name, so I'm biased with liking it!!

wildfig · 21/02/2012 19:52

love the name Audrey - I always think of Audrey Horne in Twin Peaks. So glam.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/02/2012 19:55

The likelihood of growing into a giant man-eating plant is fairly low, she should point out to them.

KurriKurri · 21/02/2012 19:56

Love it - beautiful name (my DD has a 'granny' name too - and she never had anyone make any adverse comments about it at school).

She will certainly grow into her name, it really is lovely.
