To think everyone "suits" their name eventually and so will baby Audrey?

My friend has decided to call her baby girl Audrey and is having a hard time from people saying it's a granny name and she'll get bullied etc. IMO EVERYONE ends up suiting their own name no matter what they're called right?

I really wouldn't be put off by some elderly soap actress having the same name - I hadn't heard of her, and doubt most people I know would have done, and anyway by the time your DD is grown-up I'm sure she'll be long forgotten!

Not sure I agree that everyone ends up suiting their name, there are some truly awful names out there, and some people end up changing their name as an adult/teenager because they never come to like it. Don't think Audrey falls into that category though, it's a perfectly nice/normal name.

It wouldn't be my first choice for a baby's name and I've not met any young children called Audrey. It makes me think of Audrey Roberts from Corrie and if I heard of a baby Audrey I would think she'd been named after a great aunt or something.

It's not a soap actress that has the name, it's her character in Corrie that's called Audrey. I like Audrey in Corrie so that's not off putting in itself but I do find it hard to picture a baby called Audrey, to me it is a bit of a granny name, like Maud or Mabel. And I just don't particularly like the sound of the name, but each to their own. It's an unusual name for a child these days but I can't see why she would be bullied.

"by the time your DD is grown-up I'm sure she'll be long forgotten!" How can you say that Ephiny? Audrey Roberts is a legend! ShockGrin.

Out of curiosity, have you been on the Baby Names forum to see what they think of it, OP?

LaCoccinelle · 22/02/2012 11:01

I think it's a lovely name, my mum is called Audrey - she hated it growing up because even then it was considered a granny name but I think she quite likes having an unusual name now. It might help that she's more Audrey Hepburn that Audrey Roberts Grin

Personally I dont like it at all but I would never dream of saying anything to anyone calling their baby that!! Like you say, people grow into their names so no one would think anything of it. Dont like it though!

Floggingmolly · 22/02/2012 12:49

I like it. It's feminine and classy.

Audrey. I love it, I have an "old" name and I have to admit when I was growing up I was sometimes uncomfortable. Now I love it, it's so different and professional.
