in thinking that the new Flora spread tastes revolting?

Have been using it for years. Just bought some and it's "new". It has a differnent texture and smells like really cheap cooking margarine. And tastes disgusting. Is it just me?

For what it's worth, I don't really like any spread that much (prefer butter) but I'm in the minority in our house.

I can't do spread it makes me want to heave. I use clover although not butter it tastes exactly the same.

Kayano · 17/02/2012 15:25

Yanbu

May I refer you to yesterday's Lurpack thread Grin

achangeisasgoodasarest · 17/02/2012 16:40

kayano I would love real butter, but the rest of the family don't like it. Plebs, the lot of 'em.

nobodyspecial · 17/02/2012 16:41

oh no....i 2 tubs from tesco as they were half price...shit.

Kayano · 17/02/2012 16:41

What about the new lurpack lightest with olive oil? Meet in the middle

(it's on offer at asda and sainsbos)

nobodyspecial · 17/02/2012 16:43

That's: I bought 2 tubs - typing with one hand...

FredFredGeorge · 17/02/2012 16:45

Have they gone to the North American / European recipe? I've feared this, everywhere else it doesn't spread properly on toast, it goes soggy, and it tastes different.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 17/02/2012 16:46

I thought I was going mad til u posted x it doesn't taste the same and the tub we recently bought had like a pocket of liquid in the middle it was most strange x and it was the only Marg I liked aswell x

MerrilyWatkins · 17/02/2012 16:49

Does anyone know of anything which tastes the same as the old Flora? I have a friend whose children refuse to eat the new stuff and as they are poor eaters anyway she desperately needs a replacement.

mrsjay · 17/02/2012 16:52

Dh bought it the other day it was on offer anyhoo its vile isnt it I went through a few slices of bread this afternoon it just ripped and it tastes funny in mash

roulade · 17/02/2012 16:53

Clover does not even remotely taste anything like butter!

eurochick · 17/02/2012 16:54

All spread tastes vile anyway.

roulade · 17/02/2012 16:56

eurochick you are so right, only butter will do.

CalamityKate · 17/02/2012 16:57

How can you possibly say Clover tastes like butter???? NONE of the so-called "Buttery Taste" spreads taste like butter!!!

Some of them taste slightly less greasy and revolting than others, but that's about it.

ScramblyEgg · 17/02/2012 17:12

YANBU, it's horrible.

Thought it was just me, as I've got a cold - damn. And can't get butter as DH is dairy intolerent.

achangeisasgoodasarest · 17/02/2012 17:14

Maybe we should all email Flora and tell them what we think?

I agree the new flora smells and tastes like cheap margerine. Been using flora for years but will have to find an alternative. Tesco's sunflower spread is ok bu haven't been able to get it for sometime so went back to Flora.

MardyBra · 19/02/2012 19:53

All Flora tastes revolting. Just use butter, and maybe a bite less of it if you're worried about health implications.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 19/02/2012 19:55

Blush I must be a freak cos I hate real butter lol flora was like the only thing I liked and they ruined it lol

QueenStromba · 19/02/2012 21:05

Butter is actually a lot better for you than margarine.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 20/02/2012 00:26

YABVVVVU to buy anything other than butter.

I really don't undrstand why anyone would want to eat this shit. As QueenStromba said, it's really bad for you. Your family need to be show the way of the Righteous Ones.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 20/02/2012 07:47

Flora is disgusting. My parents use it for 'health' reasons then plaster their bread in mounds of the stuff in the ridiculously mistaken belief that it's good for you Hmm. And they think I'm the weird one for declining it when I'm there. I'm convinced it'd be healthier for them to use butter and just use less of it but they just won't entertain it. Flora's marketing certainly works on the easily-influenced elderly.

I only like butter. I tend to use Anchor but will try others if they're on offer. Butter is lovely on warm scores...mmm.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/02/2012 08:01

Oh no, I like flora light but if it's gone horrible will have to find an alternative. What other light spread is there that's ok?

FredFredGeorge · 20/02/2012 08:21

I think the people asserting Butter is healthier need to back up their claims. Old fashioned margerine full of trans fats is not very healthy at all, but Flora (and other current recipe ones) don't have any...

QueenStromba · 20/02/2012 21:06

Even if it has no trans fats it's still made from seed oils which are ridiculously unhealthy.
