Have been using it for years. Just bought some and it's "new". It has a differnent texture and smells like really cheap cooking margarine. And tastes disgusting. Is it just me?

For what it's worth, I don't really like any spread that much (prefer butter) but I'm in the minority in our house.

I agree new flora is horrible, and i use it to make cakes and make them taste funny too

FredFredGeorge · 20/02/2012 21:41

QueenStromba UK oils are very rarely soybean or corn, UK oils are almost always Rape, Sunflower and Olive, none of which are bad in the way you're describing there. Please try harder.

It's awful stuff - I will be using mine up on white sauces and pastry and stuff that isn't bread. It doesn't spread right!

GandTiceandaSprout · 20/02/2012 22:37

I don't eat it but got it for my DH who likes it. He immediatly said it smelt like Stork & smelt cheap.
Fuckers are marketing it as better tasting or whatever but in reality are just using cheaper ingredients.

workshy · 20/02/2012 22:44

I thought it smelled like stork too!!

dd was the first to use it and was moaning -I had no sympathy until I tried it -YUCK!

I've been using is for years and every other I've tried has been horrible

do they still make vitalite?

Dear Mums, Please please please don't give your kids Flora or any other margarine spread. They are Frankenfoods made in laboratories and bear no resemblance to real food being one molecule away from plastic in their chemical make up. Butter is real, it's natural and despite what the margarine manufacturers say is healthy.

Morloth · 11/06/2013 11:20

Butter only here, I even make my own sometimes.

Yum, with salt crystals.

squoosh · 11/06/2013 11:29

Butter is a natural food that we've been eating for centuries.

Flora is vile, rats and flies won't even eat it. Amazed it's still being touted as a 'health' food.

dinoman · 07/08/2019 13:09

I email Flora with my comments, they didn't even acknowledge my email, will not be buying any more Flora, not everyone is a vegan. their going to lose a lot of customers, I don't understand why they changed recipe as they already had a vegan version.

Hairwizard · 07/08/2019 13:40

Kerrygold all the way. How anyone can eat any of that plastic greasy shite i dont know! Fucking rank. All of them.

LadyRannaldini · 07/08/2019 13:48

I refer to all the genre of 'spreads' as slime, much to OH's disgust, he used to like the Olivio stuff, yuk.

Cwtches123 · 07/08/2019 14:00

I use flora buttery for cakes. The new vegan version is terrible. Last time I buy it!!!!

Zaphodsotherhead · 07/08/2019 14:35

I went to agricultural college and, on the first day, they sat us down and gave us a talk on margarine and spreads and how they were made - with all the denaturing oils and taking out the natural tastes and smells and putting back fake tastes and smells to make it feel and taste 'like butter'.

Then we made some butter. Shake some cream, add a bit of salt.

I've never eaten marg or spread since.
