Ok, let me explain myself first! MIL has enlisted my help in finding her long lost father and siblings. I've been trying for months using genesreunited and other similar websites but have come to a dead end, AIBU to contact The Jeremy Kyle show as a last resort?!

I think MIL would be up for it if it meant finding them

Have you got leggings and mucky trainers? If not, no. It's the law, I'm afraid.

Kayano · 10/02/2012 19:08

Do it. They sometimes give gifts lol

crystalglasses · 10/02/2012 19:09

Have you tried the Salvation Army?

ImperialBlether · 10/02/2012 19:10

Do it. You might meet a nice man in the green room.

Have you looked at the births, deaths and marriages? At the voting registers? At 192.com?

MooncupandPizza · 10/02/2012 19:10

If MIL would be up for it and it's to find her family, then I don't see why not. (ok, so he's awful but may as well milk him for any small bit of good he/his show can contribute to the world by reuiniting long-lost siblings and the like)

Wizardora · 10/02/2012 19:12

The salvation Army will only do it if the parents were married at the time of conception..... :-(

OP posts:
Wizardora · 10/02/2012 19:14

I've found all three of his marriages, the trail goes a bit dead after that, I've rifled through thousands of names and worked on all individuals involved and am getting nowhere!

Go for it, it's cheaper than hiring a private detective and you will geta free hotel stay.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 10/02/2012 19:17

In that case do it, thought please do ensure you dress as if you are cleaning your bathroom, or doing over the garden, or they won't have you on.

crystalglasses · 10/02/2012 19:23

If you try Jeremy Kyle, don't forget to have a good backstory (maybe you have?).

AlpinePony · 10/02/2012 19:24

How do you intend to fake missing teeth?

newmannoggsforheadteacher · 10/02/2012 19:25

salvation army are a nasty bunch of hypocrites.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 10/02/2012 19:26

If you apply they will only want you if they can make you look like a disgrace, or your MIL or someone.

Either that or a tragic heroine. They only do the two types on JK.

Wizardora · 10/02/2012 19:26

If I could thin of any other way I would do it, this really is a last resort! Private detectives coast a lot I would imagine but will look into it

GrittersWifeAndProud · 10/02/2012 19:29

Go for it if you've exhausted every other option!

Just don't forget the wheelbarrow full of orange foundation. And a trowel for applying it with.

RightUpMyRue · 10/02/2012 19:30

Only if the paternity of your children is in question and MIL thinks you're an old drunk/drug taker/bad mother and no one you know has ever had a job.

Seriously though, go for it, it'll be worth the shame.

pippala · 10/02/2012 19:30

Just sticking my neck on the line here for a flaming BUT have you thought how MIL family will feel to be "found" via the JK show?
They may well be a very private family who would be mortified to be on the show and who knows may not want their dirty laundry aired on national tv!
I have been in the same boat as your MIL and was desperate to find my birth mother.
A well meaning stranger (long story) decided against my knowledge to put an add in my birth town newspaper saying does anyone know a ...... who gave birth on ......
I used a adoption search agency where I spoke to a wonderful lady called Gwen who "found" my birth mother within 245hrs and contacted her on my behalf.
As she had seen the advert in her local newspaper and had been embarrased that I had aired her dirty laundry in public all these years later she didn't want to talk/meet me.
Six weeks later after Gwen trying her best at mediation she did agree to meet me.
The reunion was very short lived prehaps 18mths due to her guilt/lack of interest.
Here is Gwens website

theSearchline Ltd - Reuniting adoptees and birth parentswww.search-line.co.ukre may be someone looking for you

She was absolutly brilliant with me at a very emotyional time, counselled me on hour long phone calls and mediated for me and then picked up the pieces after my birth Mother turned out to be so indifferent!

I really wish your MIL well, I still read Gwens website as I love a good ending. It makes me feel better funnily enough!
Pm me if you would like some more info on Gwens searches etc

KittyFane · 10/02/2012 19:31

There are other programmes who find missing/ long lost relatives.
I can't remember what they are called but have watched them on day time tv (!) not much use I know!

Agree about Jezzer...the man is vile and will shout at you and bully you. You will get your train fare paid though Hmm.

No, don't do it.

KittyFane · 10/02/2012 19:34

BTW, agree, if anyone found me via the JK show, I wouldn't want to know and wouldnt take part.

LynetteScavo · 10/02/2012 19:35

How about the power of MN? Maybe you could post who you are looking for here. Someone my know your MILs father and siblings.

At least you won't have to go on national TV after not washing your hair for two weeks.

fortifiedwithtea · 10/02/2012 19:36

If you can face Jeremy Kyle, you're braver than I. All that shouting is too much for me. Hair style for the show must be unwashed hair scrapped back into a severe ponytail.

Good luck with the search.

Wizardora · 10/02/2012 19:44

Well, his name is Monatgue P. Lewis and he was born in Rugby in 1930 and was last know to be living near Cannes (Plascassier) in South of France. He was married 3 times, once to Renee Small in Manchester, then Mary Morgan in Herefordshire and the Gillian H. Edwards, a vicars daughter in Newport (Monmouthshire) and has two (possibly 3) children called Belinda and Paul, there surname was Edwards I think as can't find any records of a Bellinda Lewis with mothers maiden names Edwards... Long shot, sorry!!!

I thought jeremy kyle just did 'I knew my boyfriend was sleeping with my mum, in fact, we've both had his babies, but I think he's sleeping with my dad too - I need a lie detector test' type stories? not find a relative thing?

Greatdomestic · 10/02/2012 19:52

I don't think you can go on that show unless you are prepared to take a lie detector and violently disagree with the outcome. And have your partner take a DNA test to establish if he is the father of both your best friends and sisters kids. So not a goer I'm afraid.
