Ok, let me explain myself first! MIL has enlisted my help in finding her long lost father and siblings. I've been trying for months using genesreunited and other similar websites but have come to a dead end, AIBU to contact The Jeremy Kyle show as a last resort?!

You can go on the JK show with stuff like this. They've done quite a few reunions.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 10/02/2012 20:10

Try posting in chat, name all the areas he lived in, so those in the areas will take a look, you never know!

Yesterday I read that the old cilla Black 'surprise surprise' show is coming back later this year hosted by Holly Willoughby. It reunites long lost relatives. Perhaps you could contact thw show and find out if they can help. i don't know if it's on ITV or BBC but I you could probably find out by googling it

Have you tried looking for him with Montague as a surname? Or checked the houses in the same area for anyone called 'Smith'? If he didn't move about a great deal after marrying Gillian then it's possible. It is possible that he is no longer alive too :(

I recall a programme called 'heir hunters' who track down descendants of people who could benefit from their will/estate so maybe worth looking into that? Or see if you can hire an independent researcher?

I have done some genealogy in my time, but at the moment, I am 3/4 through a degree and don't have time to pursue it. Happy to try to help if you can provide more information though :)

I find it strange that his children wouldn't have his surname. Maybe he changed his surname. Hmm

Did your MIL have his surname?

Wizardora · 11/02/2012 15:29

Thanks guys, well no MIL didn't have his name as he was already married when he her... She isn't sure which wife (if it was one of his wives) the children were born to, he also moved around a lot which adds to the mystery... I wonder if the British Embassy in France could help?

I don't like Jeremy Kyle and while most of the people are TV fodder it seems like this could either be very good or very bad. There are other TV shows that track down relatives which may be more suited to you than that bolshy idiot JK.

SnapesMistress · 11/02/2012 17:02

I would hate to be contacted by JK and be put off so be wary of that.

LynetteScavo · 11/02/2012 17:12

I agree, if JK contancted me about a family reunion I would make presumptions about the family and run a mile!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 11/02/2012 17:22

oooh, definitely go for the DNA test Wink

theincredibequeenofwands · 11/02/2012 17:28

Weepy long lost relatives is more Trish'a bag.

Is that still on??

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/02/2012 18:25

Apparently you get £75 for appearing if that's an incentive.

crystalglasses · 11/02/2012 18:45

Only £75? Shock Those people must be desperate for money!

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 12/02/2012 15:25

£75 is better than the £50 the TOWIE lot get per day.

DuffyMoon · 12/02/2012 15:43

my mum found her dad through the sally army...her parents weren't married
