for asking my chap to marry me on 29th- do I get him a ring? But chaps don't generally have engagement rings? Do I get my own ring ( will only be a cheapy thing either way but more of a token I guess )

he better bloody say yes! After 8 yrs, buying a crap house and having a baby (wonderful) together I think he probably will haha

thanks for any tips

I like the vest idea-as long as he doesn´t take vest & top off together at bathtimeGrin

Cristiane · 09/02/2012 09:28

One of my favourite proposals was done by my cousin. He painted 'will you marry me' on a sheet and tied it up between two trees on the other side of a lake... Then had took his girlfriend for a nature walk near the lake and asked look through binoculars...

maddening · 09/02/2012 13:14

thanks for all the ideas ladies -Fab! Like the idea of cufflinks

Honeydragon - if you are really sure then that would be lovely!will pm you to ask the details - will be my first pm too _exciting times! :-)

Am going to find a vest with a pocket (since loads of baby clothes have random pockets there must be one out there!) and maybe put my ring in there - use a single stitch to hold it in so we don't have to spend tbd evening in a&e waiting for ds to poo....

Oh I am so excited for you. The vest thing is totally adorable. I wish I could go back in time and do it! Too late now. You are soooo clever to think of it. Have a bottle of bubbly in the fridge (hidden) for when he says yes. HOW ADORABLE.

NeedlesCuties · 09/02/2012 13:20

Pixieonthemoor · 09/02/2012 13:24

Grin Grin

I've just gone a little bit mushy reading this

Good luck OP. Let us know what happens. The vest idea is genius Grin

Gonzo33 · 09/02/2012 13:37

Sooooooo excited for OP, good luck!

diddl · 09/02/2012 13:37

Surely the vest can be put on just before OP´s partner gets home?

SlightlyJaded · 09/02/2012 13:48

ooooh to the lovely vest idea

ooooh to honeydragon offering to make it all perfect (you will have to get one of those box frames and mount/display the vest for ever after)

ooooh to the proposal by the lake

And yes to the cufflinks - maybe 'will' on one and 'you?' on the other (bit less cliche than 'be mine or 'marry me'

laurenamium · 09/02/2012 13:52

Love the vest idea... Grin at quintessentially!!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 09/02/2012 13:58

Brilliant. I'd go belt and braces though and write it on DS back too.

blue2711 · 09/02/2012 14:14

Love this! Good luck! You must come back and let us know how it goes.

Honeydragon · 09/02/2012 14:36

Yes ...I'm more than happy to do it if you decide to go ahead pm me and we can sort it out - you've plenty of time to look for a vest and yes I can print you a back up in case of poonamis Grin

HandMini · 09/02/2012 16:00

YAY! THis is so exciting. Totally love the vest idea. Will we get a picture at some point after the event??

ViviPru · 09/02/2012 16:07

Quintessentialy - Girl after my own heart - that's totally my style.

I've been toying with the idea this year too. Will probably bottle it though.

OP, how did you decide on this course of action? Have you talked about it? Dropped any hints? Details details.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 09/02/2012 16:10

ooooh how lovely :)

barnowl · 09/02/2012 16:50

I put one of those love heart sweets in a ring box saying 'marry me' when I proposed to DH on 29th Feb we then chose a ring together later. Smile

sittinginthesun · 09/02/2012 16:55

My friend proposed to her boyfriend, after many years and a family together. She made a romantic dinner, bought herself a ring, and their daughter (age 6) brought it in on a cushion and said "mummy wondered whether you would like to marry her?".

We all knew, and were hanging by our phones waiting to hear the answer!

TheresASpareChairOverThere · 09/02/2012 16:56

Bugger posting it in the etiquette section, if you had I wouldn't have seen it and gone all soppy...

chocolateyclur · 09/02/2012 17:40

Exciting stuff! Good luck Grin

Honeydragon · 09/02/2012 18:20

PM'd you Maddening Smile

MardyBra · 09/02/2012 18:26

Could you write it inside DS's nappy and get DP to change it? Wink
