for asking my chap to marry me on 29th- do I get him a ring? But chaps don't generally have engagement rings? Do I get my own ring ( will only be a cheapy thing either way but more of a token I guess )

he better bloody say yes! After 8 yrs, buying a crap house and having a baby (wonderful) together I think he probably will haha

thanks for any tips

Sorry -just teasing (and hopefully not threadkilling).

Also really wanted to mark my place [hopeless romantic]

Proudnscary · 09/02/2012 18:32

Ooh I love thinking of smashing ways to spring surprises. Good luck!

The day I found out I was pg with dc1, I also received a whopping great cheque from my grandfather who'd sold his house and divided money between rellies.

I didn't tell dh about either.

When he he came home from work I said 'Do you want the good news or the bad news?'

'Err good news?'

'We got £XXk from Grandpa'

'Bloody HELL! Bad news?'

'We're going to need every penny of it in nine month's time'

Cue shock/whoops/tears/Champagne popping

Wombat33 · 09/02/2012 18:33

Marking my place too! Good luck op! So exciting!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 09/02/2012 18:34

So exciting!

NorksAreMessy · 09/02/2012 18:38

Hooray maddening this is so exciting.

I proposed to my DH, not on a leap day, but on a normal night, in a field under the stars.
He said 'yes of course we are going to get married', as if it was completely obvious. Actually it was :)
We had only been together 2 months (24 years married this year).

I hope you will be as happy as we are, and LOVE the vest idea

eeeek I'm getting more excited after doing this thread - it's making the total exhaustion of my non sttn baby (1 yr old might I add haha) slip away.

I've been thinking about it since Christmas - we've both been stressed for various reasons so I think we need this - I'm thinking of the 3 of us dropping by gretna green to get married and then having a family honeymoon in Edinburgh as we love scotland....but will let dp in on deciding that haha

I will def get pics to post (although my poor dp may look a little scruffy as he won't be dressed for the occasion )

co-sleeping with ds at the mo so I will have a chance to look for the ring and cufflinks without dp seeing

maddening · 09/02/2012 22:56

ViviPru · 09/02/2012 23:29

I threatened to, half-jokingly. It was met with a nervous laugh.

We've been together 8 years too. No DC though. So I can't do the vest trick. I think for now I'll just live vicariously through this thread instead :)

maddening · 10/02/2012 14:06

write it on your bra and seduce him.......

What a lovely idea!

Fwiw, my dh is not a jewellery guy really but when we went to choose my ring we decided it didnt really seem right to us that I would have one and he wouldn't. He got an 'engagement' ring which he wore until we married and it become his wedding ring. Our rationale was that we were both equally as engaged, might as well both wear a ring!

Good luck!

FoxyRoxy · 10/02/2012 22:31

Oh how lovely! I actually shed a tear over some of the stories, I blame the pregnancy hormones Blush

ViviPru · 11/02/2012 11:21

Seventy whole English pounds??!! And he's a right clothes snob sartorialist so he'd never even wear them...

Back to the drawing board....

DeWe · 11/02/2012 11:27

If he says no they he has to buy you a silk dress. Grin

Marking place, the vest is such a brilliant idea

FabbyChic · 11/02/2012 16:45

Great idea, cufflinks are pricey!

maddening · 11/02/2012 21:52

they are a bit pricey but they are being personalised with the will you marry mummy message and 1 will have 29th feb date and the other will have ds's bday on it - and they are in silver
