To want a perm...

takingiteasy · 05/02/2012 21:01

I had one about 10 years ago when my hair was really long and it was fab, not 80's looking at all, honest! Big bouncy curls.

It grew out over time and my hairs been in lots of different styles. It's now sitting around my shoulders and I keep thinking about getting another one.

I have visions of Janine in Eastenders hair. I just keep thinking about how easy it was to look after and with a new baby coming I could just 'wash and go' and look fine. If I don't dry and straighten my hair as is it's a wavy mess.

I want something loose and bouncy but I'm scared my hair is too short!

Make sure they use big rollers to avoid this

takingiteasy · 05/02/2012 21:08

Arrrgh that's what I'm worried about!!

big rollers and you'll be fine! :o

SixtyFootDoll · 05/02/2012 21:14

I used to love my spiral perm

takingiteasy · 05/02/2012 21:20

It doesn't help when things like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk./imgres?q=perm+done+with+big+rollers&hl=en&biw=1024&bih=574&tbm=isch&tbnid=osUJpfBaylWQbM:&imgrefurl=www.iambarkingmad.com/spotted_dick_and_other_mu/the_politics_of_beauty/&docid=j3k-g9TeAMBk5M&imgurl=www.iambarkingmad.com/.a/6a00d8341e131a53ef0162fd693c5e970d-450wi&w=400&h=314&ei=AvIuT-P5BKmw0QWb7O2sCA&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=101&sig=110352279976327745351&page=5&tbnh=122&tbnw=156&start=94&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:94&tx=95&ty=68" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this come up on google images!

I'd love a perm too... Always dreamed of lovely loose curls I can wash, leave and will look great.

What I'll probably end up with

Snowboarder · 05/02/2012 21:31

Gah, bolloxed that link up, ignore me Blush

McQueasy · 05/02/2012 21:33

Yabu
Perms are the work of the hair devil

ike1 · 05/02/2012 21:34

Aw perms do they still do them?

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 05/02/2012 21:46

I had a perm about 3 weeks ago so i say go for it Grin it is so easy to look after and ive started a revival about 4 of the mums at school are booked in for perms now!!!!!

hiddenhome · 05/02/2012 21:49

I had a perm last January and it was fine. Big rollers and perm solution only on for 10 minutes. It was fine, just some loose curls and some body Smile

takingiteasy · 05/02/2012 21:50

So it can work!

Can I ask what length your hair is ladies?

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 05/02/2012 21:52

Mine was shoulder length. The perm does make it go a bit shorter due to the curls bouncing it up, so don't get one if your hair is a short bob or something. I'm currently growing mine so I can have another one. I look awful with straight hair.

ViviPru · 05/02/2012 21:55

I love Janine's hair atm. In fact, I think I love Janine a little bit too ever since she got pregnant.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 05/02/2012 21:55

Mine is shoulder length and I have very loose curls just to add some body as naturally my hair is dead straight

PatFenis · 05/02/2012 22:04

I would personally avoid perms as I have very fine hair - my mother took me for a perm when I was 10 to 'give my hair some body' like a demi wave or suchlike ...... yeah right - my shoulder length straight straggly hair ended up around my fucking ears in a bubble perm cos the hairdresser was only used to perming old ladies and I swear she permed my hair using cocktail sticks!!!

I looked about 40 ffs! I'm surprised the hairdresser didn't throw in a lilac rinse just to finish me off

It took me bastard years to grow that perm out - blow drying into a Crystal Tips frizz every morning was great fun Hmm

shuckleberryfinn · 05/02/2012 22:21

I has real bone-a fighday curly hair and I Wanna perm. As a teen 12-13 I used to get my hair permed because I was young and very stupid needed a uniform curl and it looked lush. Would it be wrong to go demand an aff tomorrow?

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 05/02/2012 22:30

Bone-a fighday?

takingiteasy · 06/02/2012 08:05

My hair is thick and took it really well the last time... I'm so tempted! I'm just about to switch my straightners on, get the spray out and tackle my mop for the day... it would be sooooo much easier and I love curls!

Moodykat · 06/02/2012 08:12

I've always wanted a perm but was scared as I colour my hair and don't want to fuck it's condition up completely!xxx

Ilovedaintynuts · 06/02/2012 08:29

Arf at bone-a fighday Grin
Priceless!

LucyFarinelli · 06/02/2012 21:06

I had one the summer after DS was born. Dropped out after a week. That was £100 down the drain.

LurkingBeagle · 06/02/2012 21:24

I had a digital perm last year and I love it. None of that burny smelling horrid lotion, although I looked like the Smash robot when I had the rollers in. No split ends either. They are a bit more expensive but give a very natural curl. I am having another one Grin

SixtyFootDoll · 06/02/2012 21:36

Ah yes I remember reading about digital perms, am so tempted.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 07/02/2012 17:29

I was hoping above hope that bone-a fighday was tongue in cheek................

Digital perm? Good grief. Something else to google, I suppose :)
