To want a perm...

I had one about 10 years ago when my hair was really long and it was fab, not 80's looking at all, honest! Big bouncy curls.

It grew out over time and my hairs been in lots of different styles. It's now sitting around my shoulders and I keep thinking about getting another one.

I have visions of Janine in Eastenders hair. I just keep thinking about how easy it was to look after and with a new baby coming I could just 'wash and go' and look fine. If I don't dry and straighten my hair as is it's a wavy mess.

I want something loose and bouncy but I'm scared my hair is too short!

I'm sold...

HazleNutt · 07/02/2012 18:24

I have very fine hair that no matter what I do, just lays there, being flat, thin and boring. Got a digital perm as well and while I can't get it to look quite like in this youtube video myself, it's still lovely and bouncy with some actual volume and body. Go for it.

do perms ruin the condition of hair as bad as bleachinG? id luv to try it but my hair is already quite damaged.

i have been having my hair permed once or twice a year since 1997, and home colour it, and last time I went the trainee hairdresser complemented on the condition of my hair :)

I have mine permed on the largest size curlers and have about a inch left uncurled at the root to prevent the Crystal Tipps look. Many people have never even realised mine is permed and not naturally curly. I wear it up and down, and wash it everyday - using a blob of mousse to style it

flibbertywidget · 07/02/2012 22:37

ooooo perms. I had a wicked spiral in the 80's..... A bit of bouncy volume would be great for me.. hmm will have to go and investigate

thefroggy · 07/02/2012 22:42

I'd like a perm. With HUGE rollers. My hair is naturally curly, little spirals. It looks a bloody mess 99% of the time. I asked about straightening but apparently it looks a frizzy half straight half curly straw fest.

Can't do a thing with it.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 07/02/2012 22:44

Ooooh, a perm? Really? Would I really truly just be able to wash, mousse and go? Really? That would be AMAZING!

pissovski · 07/02/2012 23:13

just put a pic up so you can see my hair

Icelollycraving · 08/02/2012 07:12

Bone a fighday.
The ultimate mn spelling. I may namechange :o

SP0104 · 08/02/2012 09:30

ooohh - I had a spiral perm done on bendy rollers at Saks hairdressers ( worth the money for the results) when I had long hair down to my bra strap at the back.
It was soooo easy to manage and used to last about twelve months.
Had to have it cut two years ago due to illness :( but am now growing it again.
Used to get loads of complements on it.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 08/02/2012 09:33

Bone a thigh day would be even better icelolly Grin

Icelollycraving · 08/02/2012 11:24

thefurryone · 08/02/2012 11:50

PatFenis I feel your pain, my Nana's hairdresser gave me a perm when I was 11, my so called bestfriend still likes to remind me about it on a regular basis BlushBlushBlush

blondiep14 · 08/02/2012 11:56

Oooh, I'd love one.
Not sure if it would take tho. I have fine hair, but shedloads of it so it's quite heavy.
Also, it's too short at the moment Sad

takingiteasy · 10/02/2012 13:55

It's done! Looks fab, so pleased I went for it!

Took 4 hours and my head feels like it's been nipped all over, I've got really thick hair and needed loads of rollers. Poor lass was expecting an easy half bald granny perm!

Loving it already though!

Picture please!

Moodykat · 10/02/2012 15:49

Did you just get a 'normal' perm? Or a new fangled digital one?!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 10/02/2012 16:29

Picture needed please.

takingiteasy · 11/02/2012 16:25

Just normal, looking good though. Just washed, scrunched some mousse through it and was ready to go this morning.

No pics - I'm not putting my pus on here haha!

I'd love one but I bleach me hair, and DH is always all - just be happy with what you've got anyway Hmm

Whatever. I might have one done after the much hoped for pregnancy and birth.

Takingineasy - pictures? Would love to see it!

HazleNutt · 11/02/2012 19:21

I uploaded a pic of my digital perm if you want to see. As said, I have very fine thin hair.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 11/02/2012 19:27

That's what I want HazleNutt!

Do you literally just wash, mousse & go or is it more faff than that?

HazleNutt · 11/02/2012 19:30

wash, mousse (or use different curl products), go. the pic was taken right after the perm though and it is not usually so curly - but that's probably because my hair type does not hold it so well. still nice, planning to do it again.

c0rnsilllkrunninglikealaydee · 11/02/2012 19:32

hazlenutt that's lovely - how much did it cost?
