DodieSmith · 01/02/2012 22:45

It's a bit like fallen woman isn't it.

SiamoNellaMerda · 01/02/2012 22:46

Yes

None of your business how anyone else chooses to refer to their situation is it? You choose not to express it like that - fine - but don't be mithering at other people's choices.

SparkleSoiree · 01/02/2012 22:46

When I think of 'fallen' pregnant I think of someone tripping over on the pavement!

SparkleSoiree · 01/02/2012 22:47

Makes me wonder how I got pregnant!! Grin

YANBU

grooveisintheheartahahahah · 01/02/2012 22:49

YANBU.

Even worse is just 'fell' - e.g.

"when I fell with Tommy"

TheSpreadingChestnutTree · 01/02/2012 22:49

I don't like it either, and I can mither about it as much as I want to.

Naoko · 01/02/2012 22:49

Yes. 'to fall' in this case simply means to go from one state (not pregnant) to another (pregnant), like in falling asleep, falling ill, falling in love, etc.

dixiechick1975 · 01/02/2012 22:49

My mum says expecting - as in you know Jane she's expecting.

Garliccheesechips · 01/02/2012 22:50

What about "We're pregnant"?

RattyPatty · 01/02/2012 22:56

boak @ we're pregnant.

Honeydragon · 01/02/2012 22:57

I like it. You fall and get a bump Grin

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 01/02/2012 23:00

The worst one is 'dropped on', as in "she dropped on straight away". Just awful.

CakeMixture · 01/02/2012 23:03

catch

I have catched pregnant
I caught pregnant

Arghhhhhhhhh!
I suspect IABU though as it may be a dialect expression?

We are pregnant - ditto

TheSpreadingChestnutTree · 01/02/2012 23:04

Dropped on what? A penis?

susiedaisy · 01/02/2012 23:04

I hate 'were pregnant' and I hate the phrase 'took' as in she took first time, and I also hate it when someone says 'he got me pregnant'

ChocolateIsAFoodGroup · 01/02/2012 23:05

We are pregnant is worse. Vile. For example: Right now, we do not bloody have morning sickness, I do!!!

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

Mithering away....

susiedaisy · 01/02/2012 23:05

Were= we're

Eglu · 01/02/2012 23:07

Yes, hate fallen, or fell pregnant. And caught is even worse. It's not a disease, you didn't catch it from someone else ffs.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 01/02/2012 23:07

I feel like challenging the term "giving birth".
what is giving about it??
you are giving life to a baby

Cae1985 · 01/02/2012 23:09

hate when people say got 'caught' pregnant, We're pregnant is so cheesy!! haha. can't say i mind fall too much though.

iklboo · 01/02/2012 23:10

DH's gran informed us his (30 year old) cousin had 'got a girl into trouble'. DH asked 'why, has he reported her for shoplifting?'

ChasTittyBeltUp · 01/02/2012 23:11

It's a stupid expression and negative too. Why not "Leaped pregnant" or "Flew pregnant"?? Both make about as much sense as Fallen! Siamo are you in bad mood? Confused

Honeydragon · 01/02/2012 23:11

I do like "with child", it amuses me but I don't know why, expecting doesn'y bother me as I find it quaint.

Totally agree on the we're pregnant.

ChasTittyBeltUp · 01/02/2012 23:12

Neverknowlingly it should be "Making birth" the frigging giving never stops does it!?

Honeydragon · 01/02/2012 23:13

I beg to differ Eglu. I'm fairly certain I caught pregnancy from a fortune cookie Grin, I was definitely not pg until after the Chinese meal when the fortune cookie inferred I was.
