I am watching this on Catch up and I am Shock that these men are fighting in front of their young impressionable kids, and then the kids are copying them by fighting with each other. Even the little toddler is having a go! This just seems so wrong, I know its part of the traveller culture but does not make it right. Do they think you can resolve everything using your fists. One of them said something like 'its good that there are still proper men out there' erm no beating each other to pulp is not being a proper man Hmm

God help any kid who grows up gay in that environment.

toddlerama · 20/01/2012 10:14

I haven't seen it, but there's an awful lot of questionable behaviour that gets ring-fenced from questioning as 'culture'. Will watch the show tonight.

foglike · 20/01/2012 10:14

God help any kid who grows up in that environment.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 20/01/2012 10:15

It was truely awful wasn't it, it really didnt show the travellers in any good way at all. I felt thoroughtly depressed for those poor kids, what hope do they have! I didnt even see it through till the end, gave up on the last set of adverts, turned the tv off tutting away like an old fart shaking my head!

All that crap they were spouting on about they would rather die than lose a fight!!!!! The women didnt get much of a say in it did they.......it was dire Hmm

pigletmania · 20/01/2012 10:16

For all you who are really up on child car safety, the little boy of one of the travellers, was sat on his dads lap whilst he was driving his van, and the little boy was steering on a public road Shock

pigletmania · 20/01/2012 10:17

It was god awful! Surely you want the best for your child, and this is not the best teaching them to fight and to resolve things with your fists.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 20/01/2012 10:20

And where were they putting that stuffed dog???

I didnt like all the animal stuff either.....that kid at the end looked totally perplexed when his dad shot that chicken!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 20/01/2012 10:21

...and it made me feel glad that my DS is a kind and gentle boy rather than some bloody out who thinks getting his fists out will resolve everything!

Dont get me started on saying kids education is important and then just sending them to school in the winter!

The whole thing was shocking to be honest.

oldraver · 20/01/2012 10:22

Have you got to the bit where one gets wacked with an axe ? And why bother with a child seat when you dont fasten it

AmberLeaf · 20/01/2012 10:22

Have you watched it all yet OP?

The machete attack on the one called Fred was hideous!

The first part of it seemed to have been filmed by the crew, that bit was particularly shocking.

pigletmania · 20/01/2012 10:23

One of the boys do not like fighting and does not want to do it, poor boy Sad. Its child abuse tbh. What the grown men do with each other is one thing, but to subject their children to that is a totally different matter. It would be better if they went to martial arts classes where they are taught by proper instructors, wear safety gear and taught in a safe controlled environment. I used to do Tai Boxing and when sparring we would always have protective gear on.

All the liberal lovies should watch that program then they may understand why people dont want gypsy camps setting up in their backyards.

mumatron · 20/01/2012 11:03

I watched it last night and spent most of it like Shock

I have a close friend that married (and divorced) a traveller so I did know a bit about the lifestyle but it was still incredibly uncomfortable viewing.

pigletmania · 20/01/2012 11:04

Exactly, and why wedding venues don't want to have Gypsie custom

Your a brave woman saying anything bad about gypsies on here.

Don't you understand they are just misunderstood?

I'm sure they were just pretending to knock tell bells out of each other.

Lovely people really.

TheSmallPrint · 20/01/2012 11:13

I couldn't watch it after reading Gypsy Boy as it made me want to cry Sad.

cantspel · 20/01/2012 11:14

Was only two people though, Im sure ch4 couldve found two gypsy men that werent like that, but that wouldnt have made such 'good' viewing'

cantspel · 20/01/2012 11:30

the main charachers were 2 men but plenty of community around them watching the fights, cock fighting, hanging around in the pub, In fact they did have one gypsy man who was saying fighting was wrong but he was still mates with Freddy and didn't try to change anything,

GirlWithPointyShoes · 20/01/2012 11:33

I miss Bessimo.
