Pregnancy/Breastfeeding Pictures

What are your feelings?

I know there was a campaign on Facebook a while back regards the policy of banning breastfeeding pictures under the nudity rules, and now it appears that someone has had their account deleted for a bump picture along the same lines.

AIBU to think there is no big deal about these sorts of pictures? Or should they be private?

There is no big deal about them although must say not sure if I am that fussed with seeing them (not for any reason other than too many photos of anyone's baby is a bit like too many holiday snaps).

KittyFane · 17/01/2012 17:09

Not really interested in seeing photos of (bare) pregnant stomach or baby being breastfed. Sorry :(

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 17/01/2012 17:23

I don't think there is any big deal about them but if that's facebook's policy and people want to put their photos on there then they must abide by the rules. If you don't like it find another website to share your photos on.

Flisspaps · 17/01/2012 17:25

Personally?

I think it's a bloody stupid policy, as it falls under their idea of 'indecency'.

What you see on these photos is no different to what you see on people's holiday snaps - bare stomachs and maybe a bit of boob (but no nipple, seeing as the baby's head will be in the way!)

my bump pics are in facebook and i havent been deleted

there is nothing "indecent" aout a pregnant belly or breastfeeding

Gigondas · 17/01/2012 17:29

Is the real reason on fb indecency?

Gigondas · 17/01/2012 17:30

And agree nothing indecent about that kind of thing - just not my type of thjng

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 17/01/2012 17:30

I think there is a pic of me bfing on fb, and I havent been deleted (yet)

Flisspaps · 17/01/2012 17:37

Gigondas I think the reason they give is that the pictures show nudity or are obscene.

Gigondas · 17/01/2012 17:39

Thought it might be- do they make people
Delete their beach photos on that basis?

Flisspaps · 17/01/2012 17:44

Exactly - that's the ridiculousness of the situation!

Nellabutterfly · 17/01/2012 17:46

FB's policy on this is that they only get deleted if somebody specifically reports them as indecent - so if you have bump or bf pictures and they haven't been deleted, it's because your friends are all reasonable people who don't get offended over nothing ;) FB don't have a Boob/Bump police trawling through people's profiles looking for naughtiness to delete, although that seems to be what people believe is happening!

on a personal level, I find them a bit exhibitionist so wouldn't do it myself, but I agree with SGM

it's the idea of fetishising pregnant stomachs and bf breasts that makes me very uncomfortable

BandOMothers · 17/01/2012 17:52

It's not sexual but neither is it "usual"....a womans breasts....they're part of her private anatomy aren't they? Only for her, her baby and her closest people to see surely?

catgirl1976 · 17/01/2012 17:56

well it seems like its only an issue if you are "friends" with an idiot on facebook.

Flisspaps · 17/01/2012 17:56

So what about women who BF in public then BandofMothers? Surely they're displaying the same amount of 'private anatomy'?

catgirl1976 · 17/01/2012 17:57

i breast feed in public and i go topless on holiday. my breast aren't "private" but appreciate some peoples are to them

AnyFucker · 17/01/2012 17:59

and yours are to some people of course, catgirl

catgirl1976 · 17/01/2012 18:05

Well the whole world hasn't seen them af :) nor do i assume they would want to.

But i dont consider them sexual objects or obscene when breast feeding so dont feel a need to keep them "private".

mellymooks · 17/01/2012 18:11

Well this is on FB and they don't seem bothered. How cool is Italian Elle?!

SardineQueen · 17/01/2012 18:17

There is something not right when images of women which are showing flesh for any reason, are automatically categorised as "obscene" or pornography or whatever they call it.

Women's flesh is not "pornographic" under all and any circumstances, but this is what facebook policy says, basically. Which is rather shocking when you think about it.

catgirl1976 · 17/01/2012 18:19

is it what fb says? another poster said they dont have such a policy and only remove pictures that have been complained about? what is the policy?

catgirl1976 · 17/01/2012 18:22

checked and they will remove images that are inappropriatly sexual. so i would be very surprised if they had really deleted bump / bf photos on those grounds. if they have then Hmm
