Mother bought shitty BarbieMother dancing princess DVD for 5.5yr old Dd. Dd hates me so much she has made me watch it TWICE in one day. Feel like killing self cos it is so execrable. Aibu??

I quite like Barbie films. I would rather watch them than Dora the bloody Explorer or some other nonsense.

Callisto · 16/01/2012 18:41

Bin the DVD. Say it broke. Tell your mother that you are bringing your child up in as gender-neutral environment as you can and that anything pink/fluffy/sparkly/pricessy is banned.

Callisto · 16/01/2012 18:41

BTW, what does execrable mean?

CockyPants · 16/01/2012 18:43

Hate Dora. Hate Thomas the tank. Tommy zoom. Chuggington. Postman twat. Bob the builder. And fucking Barbie.

CockyPants · 16/01/2012 18:44

Execrable = shit

I have introduced 4yo dnephew to the joys of Super Ted and Bananaman

Dsil is very relieved Wink

CockyPants · 16/01/2012 18:46

Don't get me started on Disney princess n fairy shite. Sorry. Child has been off today cos school is assessing new bugs for sept 2012 entry. 3 days of being mummy just about killing me...

YABU. Its suppose to be for the kids to enjoy, not you. In 10 years time you'll be longing for these days where your biggest complaint is watching a Barbie dvd with your little one.

PippiL · 16/01/2012 19:01

Yanbu.
And I don't think as parents we should have to pretend to like stuff that is execrable (good word of the day).

Let her know why you think it is poo..., in a gentle way! I let my daughter watch tripe if she wants but I discuss why I think it isn't very good so she can make her own mind up.

She still watches tripe at age 7 though, may take her a few years to become more discerning!

CockyPants · 16/01/2012 19:24

PippiL you are right. Part of being a parent is showing and teaching DCs how to make good choices in life. And not just watching shit because everybody else does. Being a parent does not mean that I have to like doing everything Dd does. I'm 42 not 5.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 16/01/2012 19:27

Apparently Barbie hired out GI Joe to bump of Sindy.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 16/01/2012 19:29

AND she's gobbling off Action Man behind Ken's back. Not that he'd care because he's actually gay and has been seen out in a notorious gay bar with Buzz Lightyear...

CockyPants · 16/01/2012 19:33

Loving yr work,TurkeyBurgerThing.

PurplePidjin · 16/01/2012 20:13

Except that Buzz is Sub and likes to investigate Mr Potato Head's holes...

shouldabeenwashedinajug · 16/01/2012 20:15

YANBU about Barbie.

What's wrong with Dora though people?

"where are we going?" "mermaid kingdom!"

Love it.

And the 'we did it' song.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 16/01/2012 20:18

I bought myself dd 'Mr Ben', Pipkins, Mary mungo and Midge, she loves them. I hate all the modern stuff cos i'm old it's loud and shouty.

PurplePidjin · 16/01/2012 20:27

I'm 10 years younger than Sil (16 younger than dp) so I had access to lots of cool retro 80s cartoons that passed them by, Pathan Grin

fuzzpig · 16/01/2012 20:31

I quite like Barbie nutcracker, really got my DD into classical music.

She also likes hong kong phooey, dangermouse, top cat and trap door :o

Figgyrolls · 16/01/2012 20:33

try fecking tinkerbell 3x in the last 24 hours. dh thought he was being nice as I had the hangover from hell. It didn't help.

fuzzpig · 16/01/2012 20:33

NO shoulda the must be followed by "tallest mountain!"

ThePathanKhansWitch · 16/01/2012 20:35

Barbie cheats on Ken?Shock.

DodieSmith · 16/01/2012 20:36

I love the Barbie films! And I'd consider myself a feminist!

shouldabeenwashedinajug · 16/01/2012 20:36

I must admit, there have been occasions when I've sung "Beachy Head"

CockyPants · 23/01/2012 19:37

I've hidden the Barbie DVD. Don't feel at all guilty.

Nevertooearlyforcake · 23/01/2012 20:54

My DDs love the Wacky Races on YouTube, they are completely obsessed! Mind you, their favourite character by a long way is Penelope Pitstop, maybe Barbie needs to get herself a better set of wheels
