In thinking there is something properly, deeply wrong with Jedward?

I never felt much towards them either way, but the more I watch of them lately the more they make me genuinely uncomfortable.

A bit of Googling reveals that there have been murmurs that they're maybe Autistic, but that's been strongly denied by their manager.

It's just.... I dunno. I accept that probably, they mostly behave like they do because they've always got each other for affirmation, unconditional approval and whatnot, but something just isn't RIGHT about them.

What do you lot reckon?

Can't stand them and am amazed their careers (ahem) are still going.

Kayano · 11/01/2012 14:39

I reckon their
Slightly odd behaviour was seen as an opportunity by management and they have been told to play up to it. Their
Outfit have gotten more extravagant and their hair is even taller.

I reckon a lot may be put on or played up to

theincredibequeenofwands · 11/01/2012 14:41

All put on.

Excellent actors, though.

Gumby · 11/01/2012 14:43

Yes they're like that to make money

themightyfandango · 11/01/2012 14:43

Interesting. They have never been on my radar as I dont watch x factor type stuff but I did see them on breakfast telly a while ago and it crossed my mind that one of them might be a bit adhd (i say this as a mum of an ds with adhd ) but equally it might just be a showbiz persona thing.

Most minor celebs are probably a bit something. I can't think of a good reason why else someone would put themselves in the public glare Grin.

fuzzynavel · 11/01/2012 14:43

They're mad as a box of frogs!

OTheHugeManatee · 11/01/2012 14:45

I still reckon they're going to be the new Ant and Dec, once the original Ant and Dec become too craggy-looking to pass for youthful and fresh-faced even by candlelight.

MistyMountainHop · 11/01/2012 14:45

yeah i find them creepy

WhiteTrash · 11/01/2012 14:46

YABU they're just kids.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 11/01/2012 14:46

I really don't know if they are putting it on, I thought that before they were in big brother, that there was no way anyone could be that genuinely stupid and immature at their age but they kept it up the whole time they were in there so if they are putting it on they must be oscar worthy actors.

i luved them on bigbro

foglike · 11/01/2012 14:48

Good luck to them I hope they make a shed of money before they're rumbled as talentless piss takers :)

They really are making the most of this sleb culture and fair play to them :)

LisasCat · 11/01/2012 14:51

They were on a panel show recently, I think it was Would I Lie to You (the one with David Mitchell and Lee Mack). I actually found it really uncomfortable watching. At first the other comedians ripped the piss out of them, and I felt bad for them, as did one of the other female panellists. But they were so bloody irritating that the pity quickly wore off, and clearly the woman felt the same because she made a very icy comment about them. It still felt like they were the victims, being the butt of every single joke, but they were the underdog who you wanted to rescue. It was a bit like being at school watching someone get bullied, but it's a kid who isn't very nice themself so no one wants to step in and defend them.

Basically I agree with you, there's something very unsettling there. I can't work out if they invite the ridicule to keep themselves in the gossip mags, or if they are very unfortunate young men who are being manipulated by everyone around them.

Tobermory · 11/01/2012 14:52

I agree that there is something not quite 'right' about them .
I saw them on something over Christmas - 8 out of 10 cats or similar. A couple of the other 'comedians' were ridiculuing them. They went too far in my opinion, and I am in NO way a Jedward fan. But Jedward just didn't get it.
The didn't appear in any way phased by what was being said about them.

Can they really be such good actors??
I can't believe it somehow.

LisasCat · 11/01/2012 14:52

I meant they weren't the underdog you wanted to rescue.

LisasCat · 11/01/2012 14:53

Oh Tobermory, you're right, it was 8/10 cats, not Would I Lie To You. But glad you felt the same.

ArtVandelay · 11/01/2012 14:54

At Xmas we had a visitor from Australia who had never seen Jedward before. He was a big craggy bloke who worked in a steel mill and he was just amazed/horrified and kept asking what they were, like what were they for? I must admit I couldn't come up with a satisfactory explanation.

picnicbasketcase · 11/01/2012 14:54

There was a comedian on BBC4 the other night talking about them - she reckoned one of them was really into their pop career and the other wanted to go to uni but the twin wouldn't let him. Very funny.

dottygirl1 · 11/01/2012 14:56

I think they are genuinely like this, i.e not acting. My DH sat beside them on a plane trip and he say they spoke to each other like 4 year olds the whole time. In fairness they kindly posed for photos and autographs. My DD (7) loves them. As do my nieces (5 and 3). Where as I can not stand them!!

Kayano · 11/01/2012 14:58

If you suspect there is some kind of SN issue such as ADHD or autism, then putting that there is something 'deeply wrong' with them in the thread title is a bit off IMO.

Just saying

SucksToBeMe · 11/01/2012 15:01

I can't help but like them and i am interested to see how they mature into their 30's and beyond.

I quite like them but only seen them on big bro last year. I think they know their Market, and play to it.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 11/01/2012 15:05

They remind me rather of DJ Ruby Rhod from the Fifth element.
