aibu to think that bumped old threads should be highlighted in some way by mumsnet to draw attention to this fact so that you don't post on it??? who agrees?

Ah I alway read through long 'old' bumped threads and THEN realise they are old. Just come online and am so glad I have seen this in active convos, will make sure I check OP date so thanks for posting.

Oh and YANBU - however, simply not bumping old threads would be a better general rule IMO, unless it's the OP updating on the original situation.

This is my first day on mumsnet, and it seems that I've inadvertently drawn attention to a thread that interested me which has caused a reaction.

If I'd known that it would do this - I wouldn't have done it, not least because I've been sharing some deep stuff today, and don't want the whole world to see the threads that I've been viewing to get some perspective.

Any threads over six moths old could have the title automatically changed to a different colour. It would top it off nicely if the OP could be messaged to see if they want to let us all know how things turned out.

YABU in my opinion, I don't think it's a big enough deal to have MN do something about it. What's more I think it's a bit shit to highlight a mistake by a newbie in this way when they may have come onto the forums for some help.

God using mumsnet has suddenly become rather scary. I'm doing stuff I didn't even know I was doing! Don't think I'll be using it again.

people make mistakes but what is annoying though is people bumping the thread to say its an old thread just let it die off.

Mumofmollyandjosh- get used to it, you will be told off for allsorts of stuff, ignore, ignore, ignore (and be thankful you don't know a few on here in real life)

Birdsgottafly: That really made me laugh. You know, I've been on here on chat one day, and you can tell a mile off the people who are helpful. You can also tell the ones who are on their high horse, and the wingers and just the plain bitchy ones. In fact, I'm coming to the conclusion that it's a bit like a virtual playground!

However, to the people who helped me get such a clear handle on my situation - yes, and some even saying some tough things which at first I disagreed with, it has been very useful.

However, this thread has shown me that mumsnet can be quite unforgiving, and so I think I'll be saying goodbye after tonight.

Besides that, I haven't got a bloody clue what all the abbreviations mean! AIBU, YANBU. I feel like I'm in Africa!

Mum Ive not been here that long, but MN may seem a little scarey at first (esp AIBU), but once you know the 'rules' then its a great place to be. Unfortunately you may only learn them after breaking one (I did just recently by accident). Just the way it is. Dont worry about it, forget about it and look for advice or give advice as you see fit. One thing that I do love about it here is that it is so honest so there's no 'reading between the lines' etc. Honesty is the best policy. Please stay, the ladies are lovely (even though some cant be a little tactless at times)

yes. bloody annoying, unless it is an update from the op.

Look up the abbrievations it's your choice on whether you use them, some don't.

It's worth staying for the bunfights and to further what cause you happen to think is important, disability, DV etc.

You find what you enjoy and after a while what to ignore.
