to think Dh is a plonker for doing this?

2 years ago for my birthday he bought me a new watch. It was very very bling, very large and very pink. I politely thanked him but told him as nicely as possible that it was so not me. I'm not a blingy person, it was too big for my skinny wrists and I'm not a big fan of pink. We returned it.

This year I did say that I would like a new watch.

So, DH buys me a very big, very blingy, pink strapped watch, from the same brand. And can't quite understand why i don't like it!!

Plonker??

Plonker!

What grown woman wears pink!?

FetchezLaVache · 30/12/2011 13:11

Plonker!

whackamole · 30/12/2011 13:11

Oi! I'm wearing a pink dressing gown right now! slattern

My OH is the same. When I was 7 months pregnant with twins and very swollen and big, I specifically said to him NOT to buy me a ring as my fingers were swollen and I'm quite particular so would like to help him choose (we had got engaged recently). He bought me a bloody ring didn't he. And it was horrible. A massive cubic zirconia, would have been a blinging diamond but if I was going to have an engagement ring I didn't want costume jewellery!

I made him take it back.

mrsmaltesers · 30/12/2011 13:27

My dh kept buying me ... , well twice ... Pale pink pashminas. I had to remind him i was 38 and not 14 Plonkahhhhhhhhhhh

mckenzie · 30/12/2011 17:59

thanks for the replies. I'm going to take it back tomorrow. Luckily for me, he bought it from a department store so I can spend the money on a variety of other things can't I?

I'm going to try and put a photo of it on my profile...

Dh has bought me a pink scarf.

I do not look good in pink.

Yanbu

LoveInASnowyClimate · 30/12/2011 18:04

YANBU. How irritating.

CrabbyBigbottom · 30/12/2011 18:04

YABVU for asking him for a watch, after he'd amply demonstrated that he has really shit taste in watches doesn't quite understand what kind of watch suits you. Wink

supadupaturkeystupor · 30/12/2011 18:05

YANBU he is a plonker, but then so are you.

In future when asked what you would like, be armed with a picture or at least a description of exactly what you would like ESPECIALLY as he got it so wring before. My DH is always steered in the correct direction, hence I got a perfect engagement ring and never have to return anything Smile

rhondajean · 30/12/2011 18:08

Ewww that's hideous. Bless him.

SnapesMistressofMerriment · 30/12/2011 18:10

It is awful, what is the picture on it? Looks like a witch on a broomstick to me.

mckenzie · 30/12/2011 18:11

point taken supadupa but I did give him the details of the shop where he could have bought me pretty much anything and I would have been happy. He just chose not to go the extra mile or two (quite literally) and instead stick with our local department store. I thought as well that as I had shown my distaste two years ago that I was safe in the knowledge that he knew what I'd like/not like.

We've only been together about 24 years - perhaps I was expecting too much??

Anyway, photo is on my profile now. What do you think? Btw, I'm mid 40s (ok, ok - I'm closer to the top end that the bottom end!)

LoveInASnowyClimate · 30/12/2011 18:12

Yikes! That is one horrible watch.

mckenzie · 30/12/2011 18:12

it's the Juicy Couture logo Snapes.
Juicy Couture!!!! Perhaps it's a hint that he wants a younger wife.

LatteLady · 30/12/2011 18:13

oh dear :(

mckenzie · 30/12/2011 18:13

see, I'm glad you all agree with me but it's so weird because my DH normally has really good taste. He has been me some fabulous clothes over the years, a gorgeous engagement ring, some lovely earrings etc. But this??? well, words fail me.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 30/12/2011 18:13

Cannot get over awfulness of that watch. It will haunt me.

rhondajean · 30/12/2011 18:15

Perhaps he's just showing you he still thinks of you as young and trendy.

Im 35 so not quite young or trendy but I'd possibly leave DH if he came home with that!!

diddl · 30/12/2011 18:15

Ooh I love pink-you can send it all my way!

Don´t like the watch, though with that picture in & the dial offset.

dearprudence · 30/12/2011 18:19

That is one frightful fucker of a watch.

mckenzie · 30/12/2011 18:21

I'll have to remember to log out of Mumsnet before DH comes home from work!!! He might get all offended Grin.
I wonder if the shop assistant will be surprised when i return it tomorrow???

OP posts:
FabbyChic · 30/12/2011 18:26

A nice classic Gucci would have been nice, the watch is for teenagers.

slowburner · 30/12/2011 18:29

Eugh. YANBU.

My DH usually buys what he is told purchases insightful and beautiful gifts.

An ex however once bought me a life sized owl made in porcelain, I was 19 fgs. Twat.

NewGirlInTown · 30/12/2011 18:31

That watch just made my eyes bleed. I can never unsee it. Was he drugged by the sales assistant when he bought it?

mckenzie · 30/12/2011 18:35

you just given me an idea NGIT. Maybe the sale assistant was a stunning twenty year old and he was trying to impress her Smile
