to go back and ask them to fix it?

Been to the hairdressers this afternoon and asked for an all over colour in a warm brunette shade. Showed the girl a picture of Kate Middleton...

It looked ok in the salon now it's bright red... In some lights it's purple. It looks awful. I'm so upset. I guess they're closed tomorrow but am I within my rights to go in on Monday and ask them to fix it. What if they're all booked up. It's really not at all what I asked for.

I think all browns have red in them but if its not the right colour and not what you asked for or was told you were getting then yes go back and ask them to do it again.

Wrongmoreoftenthannot · 17/12/2011 23:28

No it's bright red under light. This colour Angry!

Did they offer to test the dye on a little bit of your hair first? I think they should have done, and it depends what was said in your consulation.

They might say they will do it for you but that it won't do your hair condition any good.

Wrongmoreoftenthannot · 17/12/2011 23:36

No they did a skin test to make sure there was no reaction but no colour test on my hair. She also left it on for what felt like ages prob 45 mins?

It has gotten brighter as I've been home and frankly now just looks awful! It looks purple at times then in bright artificial light bright pillar box red Sad

It doesn't help that I have very long hair

Go back and they should fix it!

AgentZigzag · 17/12/2011 23:38

Maybe if you went in and calmly explain what happened and tell them how shocked you were about it, they might offer to do something?

If they don't just stand there looking expectant and as though you're set to stay there until they do? Grin

Going steaming in (not saying you would) will just get their backs up and you'll get nowhere.

But red isn't warm brunette when it comes down to brass tacks is it?

Wrongmoreoftenthannot · 17/12/2011 23:47

Go steaming in Zigzag.......Wink I couldn't ever imagine doing that!!

It's a fiery brunette but not what I wanted that's for sure. The horrified look on my OH's face when I came home said it all to be honest, I might have been the walking dead the way he looked at me!

Go back when they are next open. I've had this in the past- where it was too dark and they spent a good 3 hours putting it right (with no charge). Any decent hairdresser will do the same. Don't worry :)

NorthernNumpty · 18/12/2011 08:18

It's like buying any goods or services if it isn't what you asked for or hasn't been carried out with reasonable care and skill you have the right to a refund or to be put back in the position you ought to have been in I.e looking like KM!

I have had this and they did try to put it right, didn't work in my case (blond turned pink) but they were more than willing to try especially if you turn on the tears no hairdresser wants someone making a scene in front of paying customers!

champagnevanity · 18/12/2011 09:12

Have you washed it? - Sometimes hair dye fades a little when you wash it / excess comes out, it might be a different colour then?

& FWIW Anti-Dandruff shampoo helps strip hair color out of your hair, so i've heard.

Acekicker · 18/12/2011 09:34

Give it a wash and if it's not what you were expecting after that go back tomorrow and ask them to put it right. A good hair salon should listen and fix it free of charge - a cut and colour is an expensive thing and they should want you to be happy with the result. I had colours done once which faded massively after 3 or 4 washes, I called the salon (almost a week after the initial colour) and explained, they asked me to go in at the weekend and redid it all.

LydiaWickham · 18/12/2011 09:37

Wash it, if it's still red, go back in and get them to change it. They could always put a milder, non-perm colour over the top. That shouldn't be too damaging.

However, reddy purple does sound far cooler than Kate Middleton hair... Grin

Wrongmoreoftenthannot · 18/12/2011 14:36

I washed it 4 times this morning and other than it making the water very grubby it's not shifted much at all! It looks more purple than red now! Sad

Not just that but along the hair line it seems to have stained my skin really badly and I feel like I'm turning purple all over Sad. It's really wonky so my hair line is higher on one side.

I just feel like I could have done a better job myself at home Angry

I want purple hair. Sounds lovely.

Wrongmoreoftenthannot · 18/12/2011 21:44

Fabby I'd give it up for you willingly! Wink

If they'd done it properly it would look the right colour without needing to be washed.

I had blue streaks in my hair when I was a teenager. First time, it left my dark hair looking raven black all over. So I went back and the senior stylist told me that with my dark hair, the stylist on the day should have bleached the streaks first, and then added the blue colour over it. Which is what they later did to put it right.

whackamole · 18/12/2011 23:27

Yes, go back. I did in T&G once as the cut I had was wonky. They re-did it completely then and there.

Icelollycraving · 19/12/2011 07:30

Give the salon manager a call this morning & explain how it looks. Be nice but firm & ask when they can schedule you an appointment to fix it. If they are good, they will do it asap but be prepared to go today as they are likely to be very busy later in the week & you really don't want a rush job!

harassedandherbug · 19/12/2011 08:03

Were you blonde to start with? I think they have to use a colour with a red in it to cover the blonde, not that that's any excuse.

I'd agree with everyone else. Go back and ask for it to be fixed.

LovesBloominChristmas · 19/12/2011 08:07

Fabby - I too was thinking it sounded really nice Xmas Grin

Op you can either call ahead or just go in, personally I would call and ask to speak to the manager and explain that way they can be prepared to fix it when you go in.

tallwivglasses · 19/12/2011 11:31

My hair's purple Xmas Blush

Jackstini · 19/12/2011 11:34

What was your hair like before (coloured or virgin) and did they ask you that?
They should have to make sure they put the right stuff on.
Does it look very different in natural light to the artificial light in salon?
I would definitely go back in & calmly say it is not the right colour, what can they do - let us know what they say.

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 19/12/2011 20:10

And

LemonDifficult · 19/12/2011 20:15

This is Be Firm time: 'This is not the colour I asked for or agreed to'.

Horrible but... make it clear they will need to do it tomorrow or Thursday ('My anniversary is on Thursday so I will NEED it done by then'). Ideally, go into the salon first thing tomorrow and don't leave until they've found you a slot.

BTW, I don't know a lot about hair but I get mine done similar to KM's and I always ask for ash tones as that takes out the red 'warmth' Hmm and leaves a more natural colour, if slightly flatter.

Wrongmoreoftenthannot · 19/12/2011 21:57

Thanks everyone. The salon was closed today but I had client meetings in the afternoon so had to get it sorted out in the morning. Went to an old hairdresser who coloured it again with a 'flat' brown to try and cover the red then put highlights through. There are hints of red left but only in certain lights but it's much better. Not KM though Sad

My hair was previously a light brown and I had been having highlights for many years. Decided to go a shade or 2 darker with all over colour. Won't be again Wink

I'm planning to go in and explain what's happened and ask for my money back for the original colour. I had to pay £150 to get it sorted. I have the pictures that I showed the stylist of what I wanted and photos of what I got and it's pretty obvious there was a mistake!!
