I'm on a one day MN strike today protesting about the Facebook Like button.

There'll be no new threads or comments from me as I'm not happy to be treated as a viral commodity. (apart from the odd update from the picket line of Like button protest threads).

Agree this is a horrible step in the wrong direction by MN.

will be adding our chant after every post today.....

WomanInTheMoon · 16/12/2011 08:57

I really can't see the 'like' button!!
I have been looking and looking..maybe I dont have one?! I don't want it anyway but I'd like to see what everyone is on about

BiscuitNibbler · 16/12/2011 08:58

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day
You gave it to Facebook

This year, to save me from tears
I'll shut up and get on with doing the housework

GetOffTheCat · 16/12/2011 08:59

Mumsnet 'Like'
Mums net 'Like'
Please take it away
Else we'll all be eating 'biscuits'
And have to do some work today

Jingle Bells

I'm sure someone can come up with something much better

MelanieLane · 16/12/2011 09:03

Redrubyblues · 16/12/2011 09:10

Fucking Facebook - I am not on it and have no bloody wish to be.

I'M WITH YOU COMRADES.

WifiNappies · 16/12/2011 09:18

Christmastime
Misery and whine
Mumsnetters saying "no thread of mine
will be highlighted on Facebook
for my family to see
It's time to stand up
and listen to me"

MoreBeta · 16/12/2011 09:18

UP THE POSTERS! DOWN WITH MNHQ!

Redrubyblues · 16/12/2011 09:22

MN - I really, really really do not want to be on Facebook. I am on an internet forum and that is where I want my thoughts and opinions to stay.
Not thrown far and wide.

EmilyD · 16/12/2011 09:28

I thought the whole point of these threads was that it was private for members, seems to be everything on here is now being used as a commodity to write books, make programmes and isn't actually for the good of the members and rather for the good of certain peoples purses. Why would you want to share these conversations on facebook other than for more publicity, it's not thinking about the people who signed up on here in the first place and the purpose it was first intended for.

AlbertoFrog · 16/12/2011 09:30

Mumsnet 'Like'?
Mums NOT Like!

Get it off! Get it off! Get it off!

ZenPom · 16/12/2011 09:30

With you round the brazier in my donkey jacket, Comrades.

Ok MNHQ.

I have NEVER wanted to be part of the Facebook culture and I am being forced into it with my only option being to not use MN.

NeuromanticisedVisionsofXmas · 16/12/2011 09:50

You know that your posts could and did show up on FB long before this button arrived? And you know that there is nothing to link you to your RL self unless you have done that yourself?

And you are on a posting strike, yest posting all about your posting strike here?

Um, yeah. Good stand. Hmm

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 16/12/2011 09:58

Am likewise a bit baffled.

But always in favour of a good harrumph about something even if it's not very harrumphworthy.

MardyStropAboutLikeButton · 16/12/2011 09:59

Nobody will know I'm on strike unless I say so neuro. As I said up thread, if I just don't post it's called lurking and nobody will be any the wiser.

OK, it's a slightly light-hearted protest, but the point I want to make is that MNHQ is reliant on its regular members to provide content. If MNHQ pisses off its members and they leave or post less, then the Facebook link could be counter-productive as there would be less site traffic, and thereby less advertising revenue.

OP posts:
NeuromanticisedVisionsofXmas · 16/12/2011 10:01

you are providing content right now. Bit of an empty strike really.

MardyStropAboutLikeButton · 16/12/2011 10:03

The content I am providing is about why I am not providing content on any other threads. It would be more of an empty strike if nobody knew about it.

No I get it, I just think its idiotic. And futile. And that you'll give up soon enough as the lure is too strong.....

bananamam · 16/12/2011 10:06

Does it appear on your Facebook if you like it?
