I have to say I would expect this in some parts of the uk we went to corwall and had people staring at us ECt but

I am very shocked to see this in London I have to say as a bock women the only time I have suffered overt racism is in the rural parts of they uk, northern irland and from my MIL

wahwahwah · 13/12/2011 13:33

Oh dear. Can't look as DS is wandering about and I assume that athe language is choice. Is she likely to be identified?

Maypole - sorry about your mil. That's a really crappy situation. I find most racists are of the ''I can't stand xxx, but my mate Fred is alright'. Bit like the BNP tit who had a wife from the Phillippines (who used to make the sandwiches at their coven meetings) and was amazed that he was booted out of the meetings.

festi · 13/12/2011 13:38

I think this is very violent, that guy made the woman bleed, he appeared just as abusive as her. There is a lot missing from the begining of this film, Im not sure there was much need for him to launch at her in such a violent way. Hmmm not sure on this one.

TroublesomeEx · 13/12/2011 13:39

What bothers me the most is that people might think that all white people (haven't looked, assuming she's white!) think like this and that we just don't have the confidence to voice it.

I haven't watched this, and didn't follow the link on the earlier thread, I can't bear to hear the language, the sentiments, or the vileness expressed.

Maypole yes, I lived in a rural area for a while and was Shock at some of the things I heard! Nothing threatening or overtly 'dangerous', just low level jokes and comments that just showed their ignorance, the sort of thing that hasn't been heard in the cities since the 70s!

maypole1 · 13/12/2011 13:44

Not being funny I don't condone violence but she did try to kick him and land a round house also their are very few occasions in life were I think a slap is well deserved but here is my list

Racism
Sleeping with some ones wife/husband
Wearing White to a wedding ( unless asked to)
And not visiting grand parents in home

MistleTobyLeWolef · 13/12/2011 13:45

I watched it without sound because I am at work. I don't really know what to think. Quite apart from whatever she was saying, she definitely physically attacked him first. His retaliation seemed very much more forceful than hers, though, and I couldn't help feeling uncomfortable about it.

Had the incident ended when the stupid cow fell over, I would have laughed.

Winkly · 13/12/2011 13:46

YABU. Violence is NOT the way to deal with these morons. Two wrongs don't make a right.

maypole1 · 13/12/2011 13:47

FolkGirl I think people are more savvy than for just because a few White people haven't been brought up right dose not mean everyones like that

OP posts:
festi · 13/12/2011 13:48

I agree with all those points maypole, Grin but he cracked her in the face with some force more than once, instead of ramming her to the seat he should have turned her around and kicked her arse off the buss, he obviously has the strenghth to do that, but Im a bit shocked instead he got a bit carried away.

maypole1 · 13/12/2011 13:51

MistleTobyLeWolef me too But after she falls on the floor she then punches the bloke in the face so I don't think any one should be assaulted with out being to defend themselves

OP posts:
SirCliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 13/12/2011 13:52

Loving the "bock woman" Maypole - sorry but it made me giggle!

I would never condone violence, just don't rise to the bait. I got some abuse when, as a white woman, I took my black brother out with me. People assumed we were a couple and one time someone threw an egg at us. I would far rather show them up to be the ignorant bastards that they are with words however, than resort to violence as that would be operating at their low level.

Trust me, people like this are already making a complete public twat of themselves. A slap or even a push by you runs the risk of them being the victim. You come out of a situation like that much better by holding your head high and walking away.

SomekindofSpanish · 13/12/2011 13:53

I watched this at work, but have no speakers on my computer. Does she call him a See You Next Tuesday or the racist word 'Coon'?

This one seems a little different from the other one. She seems to be directing all her anger at him and him alone. No great that she is using racist language, but wondering if because she is drunk she is using anything to get at him and because he is not, he is being restrained, verbally. Like festi, jsut wonmdering if there is more to this

I could be wrong, as I said I don't have speakers, so maybe she was quite viscious in her verbal onslaught.

Agree with maypole1, though. I have never had these kind if incidents happen to me in London, but have had the double-takes and stares in rural areas from adults Hmm.

maypole1 · 13/12/2011 13:53

I think if you attack someone and the person turns out to be jackie chan then
In view

Oh bloody well

If after she feel on the floor she just left it but she went on to punch him in the face he then slapped her back and chucked her off the bus in my view seems pretty fair

OP posts:
MistleTobyLeWolef · 13/12/2011 13:54

What SirCliff said. I can't help but feel that as a man, physically attacking a woman (regardless of the fact that she deserved started it) for any reason is going to piss people off.

I don't know many men who would physically assault a woman, even in self-defence or retaliation.

festi · 13/12/2011 13:57

Obviously there is no excuse or explination for the rasim or level of violence on either part. But I found him eaqually as agressive as her, jumping up and down like that as well. He was not defening him self with those actions nor at any other point with his language and behaviour other than when he swung her around after she hit him in the face, He was spoiling for a fight as much as she was, I believe anyway.

AmberLeaf · 13/12/2011 13:57

Was the bus still moving when he threw her off it?

maypole1 · 13/12/2011 13:58

I do think however if the other women with the kid didn't have him with her she would of got a slap also
I think their are just some things you if say you will get a slap
Better to take the higher ground

But I don't blame the guy really
if the video is not quite right I will stand to be corrected

OP posts:
SirCliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 13/12/2011 13:58

Hmm, you are on shaky ground if you say she deserved it. Isn't that the perfect excuse? That they deserved it? She was clearly pissed and incapable of standing up let alone being a serious threat to the man who at first, seems to be enjoying the confrontation with a lot of laughing and jumping about.

He could have quite easily walked away from that situation, but he chose instead to engage in it and in doing so he put other passengers at risk.

It was unnecessary imo. What if she had hit her head on the road as he threw her down the steps of the bus? The courts would have taken a dim view of his defence that she was "asking for it".

maypole1 · 13/12/2011 13:59

Yes I thinks thats it it because he is a man hats why if docent feel quite right

OP posts:
festi · 13/12/2011 13:59

where does it show him throwing her off the bus? the film ends where she is on the floor.

AmberLeaf · 13/12/2011 14:01

It looked to me like it ended as he threw her off the bus?

The lay out of the bus as I know them to be he pushed her towards the middle doors and then she was gone?

SirCliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 13/12/2011 14:01

Maypole I completely disagree with you. That other woman was found to be suffering from a mental health disorder, as confirmed by another mumsnetter. She was sat down throughout her rant and didn't attempt to physically assault anyone - are you saying that if someone had slapped her you would have applauded them?

No. That is not how to deal with racists. Violence only begets violence and gives them an excuse to be more racist. The most successful anti-racist campaigns have been non-violent.

maypole1 · 13/12/2011 14:02

SirCliffRichardSucksEggsInHell yes very true didn't think of it like that

Maybe they were together she seemed quite centred on him maybe they were both drunk

OP posts:
festi · 13/12/2011 14:03

i see i watched again, she did get thrown off the bus I hadnt noticed the doors open I thought she was on the floor of the space for wheelchairs or push chairs.

SirCliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 13/12/2011 14:03

festi, she is thrown towards other passengers who have to move out of the way and it does look like she is thrown down the steps towards the middle doors of the bus.
