You would be unreasonable NOT to put butter on first! Grin

SwearyVirginMary · 09/12/2011 08:51

YANBU.

Toast has to have butter regardless of the other toppings. Fact.

BeaHededd · 09/12/2011 09:11

Both every time here to but I am also a greedy gutsSmile

BeaHededd · 09/12/2011 09:11

*too !!

Catsmamma · 09/12/2011 09:14

butter, PB and jam.

Akiram · 09/12/2011 09:15

YANBU I'm pretty sure it's the law that when you have peanut butter you have to put butter on first.
OOh I want peanut butter on hot toast now Grin

ItWasABoojum · 09/12/2011 09:15

Who told you it's wrong? Who would do such a thing? YANBU!

LeoTheLateBloomer · 09/12/2011 09:17

Grin I'm with you Cats. Eating PB and jam on toast as I type

Have just introduced it to DD (because she saw mine and wanted it) and she loves it! Never seen her eat a whole piece of toast until now Grin

Boojum it was an old colleague. Male. I wonder if that's relevant...

YABU, butter under pb is revolting.
Butter under jam and marmalade mandatory though.

ItWasABoojum · 09/12/2011 09:19

He's a sociopath. Fact. Enjoy your toast. Xmas Grin

YANBU! YANBU!

I see toast as being two components plus process. "Toast" without butter is not in fact toast. It is merely hot bread. The act of adding butter transforms it into toast. You then decide if you just want toast, or if you want toast with something on it.

Without the butter, it would be "hot bread and peanut butter". Bleurgh.

MabelLucyAttwell · 09/12/2011 09:22

I can't see anything wrong with buttered toast and peanut butter if you like it but it would be a no no for anyone watching their weight. Peanuts are full of oil (= fat) and we all know that butter is fat so it's a double dose of fat.

I can't eat a boiled egg with out fresh bread and buter. Must have buttered bread with boiled egg. Actually, in a restaurant, if I have a roll and butter with soup or anything else, I use most of the butter in the dish

MabelLucyAttwell · 09/12/2011 09:22

*butter. sorry

GypsyMoth · 09/12/2011 09:23

I find it slides off! Might be something to do with putting too much butter in though! Standing joke in our house ' do you want some toast with your butter mum?'

iscream · 09/12/2011 09:36

I always do, it is sooo good! Lot's of people tell me iabu, but I like it that way.

lottiegb · 09/12/2011 10:12

From a personal perspective, yuck and the clue is in the name - peanut butter - it serves a buttery function (as can ripe avocado) but I just can't stomach that much fat. Each to their own.

hackmum · 09/12/2011 10:23

I remember making marmite on toast for my DD once, when a friend was around. I put butter on first and she went, "Marmite and butter?" as if it was an utterly freakish thing to do. Have doubted myself ever since on the subject of spreads on toast.

NeuromanticisedVisionsofXmas · 09/12/2011 10:32

its called peanut butter, but it doesn't contain any butter, so the name is irrelevant.

Don't demonise fat! Fat is good. Many lies are told about good fats.

tulipgrower · 09/12/2011 10:32

My favourite is: butter, peanut butter and brie
I agree with grumpla, toast is merely warm bread when eaten without butter.

Bue · 09/12/2011 10:34

I feared this was what you were going to say when I opened the thread.

So, so wrong. Peanut butter is the best-ever toast spread. Peanut butter AND butter is the grossest flavour combination ever.

LouisPasteur · 09/12/2011 10:35

Which jam? Which Jam??

Quenelle · 09/12/2011 10:37

YANBU butter under peanut butter is compulsory.

Off to try butter and peanut butter with brie now.

Soups · 09/12/2011 10:48

YANBU

It's a peanut spread, not butter mixed with peanuts. You need the butter for the peanut butter to glide on nicely, everyone should know this.

I got told off for putting butter / spread on my bread, then ketchup, to make a sausage sandwich. Madness. The butter forms a barrier so the ketchup sits on top and mingles with the sausage. No butter and the ketchup soaks straight into the bread.
