In the past I've been told it's wrong Blush but it tastes so right [greedy person emoticon].

So AIBU?

Confused

of course you have to have butter. otherwise the PNB sticks to the roof of your mouth.

And I agree. Toast is singed bread with butter, then whatever topping takes your fancy. Personally I have just had thinly sliced babybell.

EricNorthmansMistress · 09/12/2011 10:53

There is no point in toast without butter. Toast and topping without butter is worse than no toast. Toast, butter and peanut butter is indulgent heaven.

BuntyCollocksHasBigBaubles · 09/12/2011 10:53

Butter, nutella, peanut butter. Tastes like the best snickers ever.

LouisPasteur · 09/12/2011 10:54

Which Jam??

Need to know and I'm off to tesco in less than an hour!

Soups · 09/12/2011 10:58

Oh yes nutella and peanut butter. One of my sons fav pancake fillings is sliced banana, nutella and peanut butter.

CarolCervix · 09/12/2011 11:02

which jam? or which jam with PNB?

With PNB I'd go for a nice quality strawberry.

generally if on it's own I'd go for cherry. or apricot. or raspberry. or strawberry. or something fancy with damsons or kirsch.

LouisPasteur · 09/12/2011 11:03

Ah. Peace is restored. Just need to buy the PB.

That just leaves me to consider crunchy, or smooth? Grin

CarolCervix · 09/12/2011 11:05

crunchy.

tulipgrower · 09/12/2011 11:06

smooth

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 09/12/2011 11:06

Yanbu, too dry otherwise.

Peetle · 09/12/2011 11:10

Noone has mentioned Marmite and peanut butter. Now there's a toast topping (not tried marmite and peanut butter and butter though).

Now, Nutella - butter or not ?

ExitPursuedBySanta · 09/12/2011 11:13

YANBU

Re Nutella - personally loathe the stuff but DD does not have butter with her Nutella.

tulipgrower · 09/12/2011 11:37

Another favorite of mine: butter, vegemite, peanut butter and cheddar

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 09/12/2011 11:47

of course you have to have butter yanbu at all. Yes to butter, marmite and peanut butter and butter and marmite under the cheese on cheese on toast is pretty yum too.

LeoTheLateBloomer · 09/12/2011 12:43

Sorry Louis, only just got back. This morning it was damson jam which was a rather satisfying combination.

I'm also rather a fan of PNB with cheddar and cucumber on bread (with butter obviously).

Quite keen to try it with marmite and nutella now... all 3 together? Hmmm...

NeuromanticisedVisionsofXmas · 09/12/2011 12:48

Crunchy, and has to be raspberry.

Marmite and honey is savage! Xmas Grin

kdiddy · 09/12/2011 13:48

YANBU. Makes it all lovely and gooey and melty.

But then I am someone who has been known to put butter on a hot croissant (which is obviously essentially made of butter anyway) ... mmm ...

LeoTheLateBloomer · 09/12/2011 14:03

kdiddy a croissant is not a croissant without lots of additional butter!

PtCatalyst · 09/12/2011 14:38

Oooooooh, this thread has reminded me that I'm out of peanut butter Xmas Sad

YAprobablyNBU to have peanut butter and butter, although I'm ashamed to say that I've never tried it, and my lack of peanut butter prevents this experimentation...

Peanut butter, honey and banana however, either on toast or in a sandwich, are my favourite combination. Butter and honey on toast is also great, coming a close second to kaya toast, which is the most fantastic food EVER.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 09/12/2011 14:43

I always have toast and topping, no butter - unless I'm having buttered toast but then don't put anything else on it.

We just did when I was growing up and I still do. I remember seeing my dinner partners outraged that I never put butter on toast with pate.

It's just an 'adhesive' to hold sandwiches shut in my odd world. Grin

whenPaschagotstuckupthechimney · 09/12/2011 14:47

nonono butter should never go on toast! Its only there to moisturise the bread with a dry filling! Why would you sully the taste of your filling or spread with butter unnecessarily?

MabelLucyAttwell · 09/12/2011 14:52

whenPaschagotstuckupthechimney

Butter enhances the taste of what you have on the bread.

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 09/12/2011 15:03

YABU. Gross Xmas Shock

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 09/12/2011 15:03

And why didn't my Shock emoticon work????

Have they confiscated our Santa hats for not being festive enough?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 09/12/2011 15:05

All you peanut butter and butter lovers out there - you absolutely MUST try a speciality of DH's: Saltines (those square American-style crackers / biscuits) with peanut butter and then butter ON TOP OF the peanut butter. Pure heaven, if a little heart-attack inducing.

Regarding the two-fats debate, a favourite of my own is a toasted bagel (preferably sesame) with butter and lashings of Philadelphia cream cheese. Yum yum yum. How long until tea?!?!!
