To be livid with the delivery company?

Ordered a hairdryer from Amazon the other day, said it was due to arrive today with Hermes delivery company. Been out all day but there was no delivery note when I got home.

Half an hour ago someone started ringing the doorbell a few times and lifting the letter box, but I ignored it as I'm home alone and thought it was one of the nutters that live around here. After they had gone decided to see where my Amazon order was, and it said it had been delivered 45 mins ago! Also signed by me.....

Well I'm assuming that the person who almost woke baby up was the delivery guy, but A - Who the hell delivers a parcel at 9pm, B - The person apparently delivered my parcel 15 mins before they started banging on my door, and C - Where the hell is my parcel?! Actually just went outside to see if they had left it somewhere but couldn't see anything.

Not even sure how to get my money back or get another hairdryer as Amazon think I've signed for it!

Could one of your neighbours have taken it in and signed for it?

Kayano · 02/12/2011 21:52

Yodel apparently delivered my parcel according to amazon
It was only after days I found the package shoved through an unused side gate , visible from the street and very very luck to be undamaged and not stolen.

Nothing through door, nothing signed for

Outrageous!

LittleMyMoomin · 02/12/2011 21:58

Neighbour could possibly have taken it, but I have no delivery note and apparently I signed for it at 8.50, and they didn't start banging on my door til 9.15!

Could they have stashed it in bin, coal bunker, anywhere like that? I have heard all kinds of stories of where delivery people leave stuff ...

LittleMyMoomin · 02/12/2011 22:22

Just had another look outside and it's definitely not there!

So pissed off, really need that bloody hairdryer.

Why on earth didn't you go to the door and shout "Who's there?" ????????

SantieMaggie · 02/12/2011 23:10

Oh dear so it's not just next deliveries that have a problem with hermes then?

We had the same lady for years but for the past 6 months or so we've had different people and its just not the same service.

tomorrow i will again have to call next to complain that my order hasn't turned up today lile it was supposed to.

The last few times they haven't even asked for a signature just thrown the stuff at me!

startail · 02/12/2011 23:14

I've been waiting in all day for amazon, no sign of themAngry

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 02/12/2011 23:28

You need to email Amazon and explain that it is showing as signed for but you don't have it. They have a procedure for this, but it will take a while and requires patience. They will send you a copy of the signature, and require you to sign various forms stating categorically that that is not your signature, nor the signature of anyone in your household, and that you have not received your parcel. Eventually, with luck they will admit that their delivery driver is bent, and replace or refund you. Expect this to happen about Easter if you're lucky...

KittieCat · 02/12/2011 23:32

I've also spent all day waiting in for an Amazon delivery that didn't arrive. Frustrating.
Clearly a gap in the market for a reliable courier network...

microserf · 03/12/2011 04:00

this happened to me with elc. they were actually great about it - sent out another package. i never got a card or the package, so i suspect the original one got dumped outside and someone nicked it.

did you check in your bins? i've had courier companies leave them there before. v irritating indeed.

south345 · 03/12/2011 04:26

Yodel and Hermes are fine here but think I'm lucky we've got sensible drivers they put mine in the shed if not in unless it needs signing for and they do deliver upto 9pm.

LoveBeingFullOfChristmasCheet · 03/12/2011 04:42

Delivery guys has ridiculous numbers of parcels to deliver each day the pressure on them is stupid. And I'm talking into the hundreds. I think when it's light you need to have a proper look including over the back gate and in your bins etc.

I do think yabu though for not looking to see who was at the door or even if there was a dlicert van outside your house mainly because you were expecting something.

NinkyNonker · 03/12/2011 07:17

If you were expecting something why on earth didn't you see who was at the door?!

Ilovemypinkflowerywellies · 03/12/2011 07:27

Just a thought but maybe a neighbour that did sign for your parcel was doing the banging on the door to hand it over to you

catsareevil · 03/12/2011 07:31

If you were expecting a parcel, why didnt you answer the door?

Bellavita · 03/12/2011 07:31

If you were waiting for a parcel, you should have answered the door. Towards Xmas, delivery times will be extended so that everyone gets their stuff.

Yabu

purepurple · 03/12/2011 07:35

YABU
I just don't undrstand why you didn't answer the door if you were expecting a parcel.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 03/12/2011 07:44

YABU - open the bloody door next time. Now you have lost the parcel and the delivery company has extra costs for redelivery, and this is why prices rise.

Groovee · 03/12/2011 07:52

You were home and chose not to answer the door. Unlike me... I was at work and the delivery company delivered it, claimed it was signed for and then left a brand new laptop on the doorstep. Luckily dh does jobbing work and I picked up the email saying it had been delivered at work and called him and he raced home before some chancer pinched it.

sleepdodger · 03/12/2011 08:01

Hermes have loocal delivery agents, a deacon each village in built up areas, they will prop pop it back in the morning, bit if they'd saud declined you'd only have one more chance before it was returned to amazon

KittyFane · 03/12/2011 08:22

Christmas deliveries go on all evening - I got a delivery at around 10 pm from Amazon last year.
YABU for not opening the door or at least looking out to see who was there. You should be 'livid' with yourself not the delivery company.

coraltoes · 03/12/2011 09:01

I saw my amazon delivery man opening parcels this week. I don think they use very nice people.

SantieMaggie · 03/12/2011 12:11

I dont think Yabu for not answering the door - i've never had a delivery that late.

Also there are some suspicious charity people knocking on doors late round this area and i never open the door at night if i'm not expecting anyone. its not like its a week before xmas its only the start of dec - last year with the bad weather i could understand!

StepAwayFromTheMincePies · 03/12/2011 14:23

amazon have been great for me, usually everything turns up ok but once an item was missing from the package and I e-mailed, they sent another straight away, very embarrassed when I went to throw out the packaging to find It had been there all along Xmas Blush am waiting for something from them that is late coming and when I emailed to ask where it was they said they would despatch another, waiting to see if two tun up Xmas Wink
