What is social smoking?

I mean my relationship is on the line with this debate....How often is just social smoking? Only on nights out? Birthdays? Is only at weekends counted as social smoking? If you don't smoke all week but just Friday nights with wine, is that? I confused so thoughts appreciated..

i envy them. i wish i could be one of them. one of the greatest pleasures as a smoker is enjoying one with a drink. but it could never be 'just the odd one' with me. I quit 8 weeks ago and i know that if i even have one now, then all the pain iv gone through in the last few weeks will have been for nothing, and i will have to start all over again. I am very proud of myself though.

WilsonFrickett · 27/11/2011 00:14

I think if you're smoking every Friday, on your own (I'm guessing you wouldn't be posting if you had your mates round Grin) then you are an occasional smoker rather than a social smoker.

Social - gets carried away and nips out for a fag when with smoking pals but never plans to smoke and never buys their own.

But if you nip out for one , I'm with you. (off to bed now, 'cause I'm DRUNK AND PISSED UP ON BOOZE - bonus points for knowing which show that came from.x)

Nope... DH giving me that ultimatum. Twice. I checked again this evening. He said he doesn't want to be married to a smoker. (he was a smoker until last week). I stop or we separate. His words...:(((

If he is suddenly saying he will leave you if you don't stop having a few fags one night a week, then I'd have to say something else is going on!

Either he's looking for an excuse to leave

Or he is going totally crazy with the cravings because he only gave up a week ago and he has turned into a raging madman and will calm down when the cravings are not driving him nuts Grin

Back when I was a regular smoker, I could get very very very very very angry indeed if I couldn't have a fag. And when I stopped being a regular smoker, I turned into the bitch queen from hell.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 27/11/2011 00:57

temporarily. I feel it's important to clarify that Grin

Grin

He can't. He's still unconscious and chained to the radiator asleep

suzikettles · 27/11/2011 01:08

I dunno Lady. You smoking on a Friday is really upsetting your dh and you won't consider knocking it on the head for a bit?

Is it being stubborn? Are you sure? Cos tbh it sounds a bit like you can't stand the thought of not having those cigs to look forward to at the end of the week. Which makes you still a smoker in my book and it'll only creep back up on you again.

Think about not having any for the next 2 weeks. How does that make you feel? Ok? How do you think you'd feel on Thursday night.. a bit panicky? Seriously, I've been there. Think about it.

And even if you are being a social smoker, it's a little bit shabby to smoke in front of someone who's just given up.

suzikettles · 27/11/2011 01:12

Mind you, if you really don't want to give up smoking then you won't, and your dh will just have to accept that.

Social smoking is a red herring though. I agree with the person up the thread who said you can only be a social smoker if you've never been addicted. If you keep cigarettes around the house you're definitely not a social smoker - they never buy their own.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/11/2011 04:24

What is social smoking?

A river in Egypt.

However, he is a bit strange after giving up for ten minutes giving you an ultimatum about your relationship. Very strange.
