to think £150 for A PLASTIC CASTLE IS OUTRAGEOUS??!!

Caramagoo · 14/11/2011 09:42

My 3yo and 5yo DDs have regrettably seen an ad for Disney Princess Ultimate Dream Castle. They managed to pause the TV when the ad was on to show it to me so I can see what they're asking Santa for. Now, £150 for a gift for 2 wee girls' Xmas is not excessive, BUT this toy is just a wee plastic castle. AND, the evil bastarding advertisers have the NERVE to declare 'dolls and accessories NOT INCLUDED'!! Is it me?? How dare they try to rip parents off like this. £150 for a well made wooden dolls house minus accessories I could just about swallow. But this, plastic mould-injected piece of Disney CRAP???? IS IT ME??? I have an older DD and I have NEVER in my life reacted so aggressively to a toy ad. I could afford to buy this, but won't. Pity every single mum who could never afford this.

yes it's you Grin - simply don;t buy it - problem solved :)

Floggingmolly · 14/11/2011 09:57

No it's not you, it's extortion pure and simple. The manufacturers know they're onto a good thing at this time of year, because you can ask Santa for whatever you like, can't you, as it's free? Hate this.

MissIngaFewmarbles · 14/11/2011 09:59

YANBU, I hate Disney plastic tat, it is soooo expensive for what it is.

MenopausalHaze · 14/11/2011 10:00

It's utterly loathsome - but really you know - you don't have to buy it. I wouldn't imagine that many kids will be getting something so outrageously expensive and ultimately useless this Christmas!

cantspel · 14/11/2011 10:12

Over the years i have bought plenty of tat which i hated but the dc's loved. You dont have to buy it but if you do you can get it cheaper from

£129 plus free delivery and includes furniture but not dolls.

jugofwildflowers · 14/11/2011 10:18

You can get absolutely wonderful second hand Playmobil castles including princess ones from ebay which guarantee hours upon hours of imaginative fun which are worth every penny and so hold their value, take a look!

Nagoo · 14/11/2011 10:19

My DS was in tears over his desire for £150 Playmo castle. But if I had bought that at least I know it would have lasted, and retained a lot of it's value.

I have seen the advert for that disney one, I thought it might be about £60. Yanbu.

StealthPenguin · 14/11/2011 10:40

Are you joking?! I got given the Barbie Dream Home with Convertible car when I was 10. It had a fully-working electric lift, was twice the size of that and had a load of furniture chucked in with it along with the car. It has HALF THE PRICE of that castle!

What absolute rubbish. It's a good job my DS and any subsequent DC I have are being taught that Santa only brings stockings if you're nice!

fivegomadindorset · 14/11/2011 10:44

It is at this moment in time that I feel hugely relieved that DD doesnt do girl stuff, that is hideous.

Goldenbrown1981 · 14/11/2011 10:51

Not much use for the dolls either, looking at that picture. What is the use of a house that they can only just fit in each room sat down?

I can't get over the price of this

HugosGoatee · 14/11/2011 10:53

YANBU!

And you just know that it will be half price come Boxing Day.

TheCountessRoyalofBlood · 14/11/2011 10:53

For that money get the playmobil one, I have a renewed love of playmobil, get more excited than dd and she is super excited about it!

MrsMojoRisin · 14/11/2011 11:38

Yes that is a RIP OFF and it's looks like plastic tat.

I agree buy a playmobil one. You can fit Polly Pocket type princess dolls inside. It will last ages, and you could probably sell it on again for what you paid for it when they've grown out of it.

Nagoo · 14/11/2011 11:39

stealth times have changed! How old are you Grin ? The barbie home is £200 now :)

YANBU my DD has seen that crappy castle too. And ofcourse she wanted it. Like all the other plastic shit she sees on the telly. Thankfully she accepts the "it wont fit in our teeny tiny house, sorry babe" line. She has decided to ask for lots of little plastic bits of tat instead. Deep joy. Hmm

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 14/11/2011 12:27

YANBU but I wouldn't worry about it. As others have said you can get much nicer cheaper alternatives

Firawla · 14/11/2011 12:31

that is a rip off for that money you would want it to be wooden then atleast it'll last

marriedinwhite · 14/11/2011 13:07

My mother bought dd - the most beautiful wooden dolls house and every birthday topped it up with tiny dolls and tiny furniture. I've never had the heart to tell her that dd hardly ever played with it. She spent hours stripping barbies (some new, some given, some bought second hand) and whizzing them around in a second hand Barbie car bought for a fiver from a bazaar.

The dolls house now sits in our bedroom with the roof off and the telly on top. The roof is under the dressing table and I rest my feet on it when I put my make up on.

Please get them something similar second hand. Put £150 towards a really good trampoline - keeps them quiet, keeps them fit and you will get your money's worht.

5inthebed · 14/11/2011 13:14

£150 Shock!!!

Get them this for £60 instead.

warmandwooly · 14/11/2011 14:16

Hhmn slightly related but I am sure thst I saw some Disney Princess stuff, dolls, i think in Homebargains.

crashdoll · 14/11/2011 14:38

5inthebed Wow, even I want that!

crashdoll · 14/11/2011 14:39

Oh and OP, no YANBU. For that price, it should be bloody jewel encrusted! I do think it's cute how your little girls paused the TV to show you. Smile
