to think £150 for A PLASTIC CASTLE IS OUTRAGEOUS??!!

My 3yo and 5yo DDs have regrettably seen an ad for Disney Princess Ultimate Dream Castle. They managed to pause the TV when the ad was on to show it to me so I can see what they're asking Santa for. Now, £150 for a gift for 2 wee girls' Xmas is not excessive, BUT this toy is just a wee plastic castle. AND, the evil bastarding advertisers have the NERVE to declare 'dolls and accessories NOT INCLUDED'!! Is it me?? How dare they try to rip parents off like this. £150 for a well made wooden dolls house minus accessories I could just about swallow. But this, plastic mould-injected piece of Disney CRAP???? IS IT ME??? I have an older DD and I have NEVER in my life reacted so aggressively to a toy ad. I could afford to buy this, but won't. Pity every single mum who could never afford this.

gordyslovesheep · 14/11/2011 17:18

you are all spoilt brats - I had to make my Sindy house out of boxes - we where THAT poor

roulade · 14/11/2011 17:26

Not sooo bad but £125 delivered free from Amazon here. It also says with 50 + pieces included, just not the dolls.

Andrewofgg · 14/11/2011 17:37

No is a complete sentence even at bloody Christmas!

carriana · 15/11/2011 04:43

My ds has asked for a Playmobil castle, I got a fantastic secondhand one off Ebay and am keeping it hidden until Christmas but I keep sneaking off to play with it myself!

Playmobil stuff is award winning for very good reason. It seems to inspire great creativity and imagination in dc and actually my dc prefer it to watching tv. Wish I had it as a child.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/11/2011 05:57

Don't do it. My friends girls had one and it was crap. Nothing stayed together, it was very lightweight plastic, easily broken - just don't!

You will find something just as pink & barbie'ish/princess'ish for a fraction of the cost and they'll have more fun with it than this. The girls were very gently girls but bits still kept breaking/falling off & the dolls don't fit.... gahhhhh

runningwilde · 15/11/2011 06:18

Sinthebed, that is a fab dolls house!

BratinghamPalace · 15/11/2011 06:19

I swear to God that is why mine never ever get the telly. They get DVDs and that is it. I know exactly what you mean and I also remember what your children mean. I remember as a child the blood LUNGING around my tummy DYING for this crap. Never got it. In the long run it stood to me but in the short term - man it hurt!!
What can I say? Good luck

savoycabbage · 15/11/2011 06:41

I bought a playmobil magic castle second hand from e-bay and sold it when my dd was finished with it for the same as I bought if for.

StealthPenguin · 15/11/2011 11:26

I'm going to post this on here as it's very relevant, but also going to post it on a new thread because it's a great deal! Thinking of getting it for my young cousins!

this here

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 15/11/2011 11:30

I love this, bargainous too www.amazon.co.uk/Kidkraft-65082-Dream-Mansion-Dollhouse/dp/B002O61BL0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1321308357&sr=8-3

pootlebug · 15/11/2011 11:35

Extortionately priced tat, I agree. If my DD asked for this the answer would be a resounding No. It's not about whether we could afford it, it's about the fact it is a totally stupid amount of money for what you get.

I was denied various pieces of tat in my childhood that I really really wanted at the time. Did me no harm at all - the reverse I think tbh. Christmas doesn't mean you can have whatever you like.

silverfrog · 15/11/2011 11:37

the kidkraft dollshouses are great - my dds have one (not at those prices though Shock; got ours in Costco a few years ago, this one.) they have played with it endlessly ever since, and was a bargain as it came complete with shedloads of furniture etc, for about £150. the furniture is really well made and solid, and has survived dd1's (ASD) boisterous playing (although some re-gluing has been necessary)

Chandon · 15/11/2011 11:38

I think it's very good for children to not always get what they want. More people should do it really.

You can see what happens to little girls who always got what they wnated at programs like "Don't tell the Bride", "Bridezilla's" and "My sweet 16"

Don't pity us who don't buy into it.

Peetle · 15/11/2011 11:39

Our twins (4.5, really starting to understand the concept of Christmas extortion presents this year) are always seeing ads for stuff on the TV and saying "can we have that". We just say "yes" to everything, knowing they will have completely forgotten about it in five minutes, after the next ad break, and it avoids the emotional blackmail trauma of saying "no".

And of that castle, at least £50 of it is simply for the word "Disney".

Though we generally avoid commercial telly.

Try this groupon deal, full size house and furniture

www.groupon.co.uk/deals/national-deal

StealthPenguin · 15/11/2011 12:08

That's the same one I linked to :D We're on the same wavelength, Fandango!

themightyfandango · 15/11/2011 12:16

I bought one this morning Stealth. It's for my DS (4) who should have been born a girl loves playing with dolls Grin

StealthPenguin · 15/11/2011 12:21

Hahaha I have a cousin like that. Her favourite thing at the moment is her army costume. They've gone and bought some army surplus tops and trousers then cut them up and made her a costume from them. She even has a bullet belt. It's quite scary!

themightyfandango · 15/11/2011 12:26

Tbh with 2 older DS's it makes a nice change from all the army/football stuff. My DSis is convinced I have made him this way because I wanted a girl. I haven't and I didn't.

I'm banking on him becoming a fashion designer/makeup artist or hairdresser and making me look respectable in my dotage I look like a tramp most of time Grin.

kimmie2511 · 07/01/2013 23:44

i bought this for my daughters xmas an surprise surprise its the worst toy iv bought by far soooo flimsy cheap plastic an bits broken of quite easily i even managed to break even tho i was being the careful one 2 wks past xmas an 5 broken bits already an thats my daughter taken care of it whilst playing dont get me wrong looks fantastic when all put together but could the accesories could be a bit more hard wearing i wouldnt recommend at all :(

Startail · 08/01/2013 00:18

DD never played with her wooden dolls house until people started giving her odd bits of playmobil.

It was soon furnished with lots of playmobil and odd bits of its original furniture, it's been house, hospital, school, foster home and pet centre.

Playmobil is just so much more detailed and than anything else.

DD has a wheel chair DH found on ebay that has foot rests and swivel wheels that work just like a real one. Pushchairs take part to be car seats. people sit, stand and hold things nicely. The people are small enough and cheap enough to have proper family groups and school classes, but not so small you loose them.

She still plays with it and she' s 12 very soon and a pretty grown up 12.
