To think that the Mumsnet iPhone app is shit?

No 'jump to page' buttons, which makes reading long threads really fun. 'More' and 'previous' buttons at the bottom of each page which are a pain to scroll to. No way of highlighting which threads you've read. Menu icons randomly resizing themselves for no apparent reason. Amongst other annoying things.

I need to get out more.

I don't use it. Just use the normal webpage.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/11/2011 08:06

Sorry meant to put that I have tried it and didn't like it.

startwig1982 · 02/11/2011 08:06

Well yes, but it is fab being able to read all the threads while sat in bed feeding DS!

Amonstercooper · 02/11/2011 08:09

Agree. Tried it but don't use it.

redcamels · 02/11/2011 08:09

It is also fab to read the scary paranormal thread and frighten the shit out of myself in bed Grin

I have tried using the normal web page on my phone but it gets a bit fiddly.

Have you tried the mnet mobile site rather than the app? Much better imvho.

Tee2072 · 02/11/2011 08:12

Use the mobile site m.mumsnet.com.

I agree the app is not very good.

bushymcbush · 02/11/2011 08:14

I have the app but I never use it. Tis rubbish. I also use the mobile web page - far far superior.

SazZandASparkler · 02/11/2011 08:14

But it doesn't have the emoticon buttons Sad, so I just had to type that out....

redcamels · 02/11/2011 08:16

I didn't even know there was a mobile site, thanks. Will check it out (and also try and get a life in the mean time).

IDontDoIroning · 02/11/2011 08:22

I prefer the mobile site on my iPhone.

LeBOF · 02/11/2011 08:24

You could be slightly less rude in your title you know- nobody's forcing you to use the FREE app. How about "AIBU to suggest many improvements to the mumsnet app?" Wink

QuietNinjaTeacup · 02/11/2011 08:37

Er lebof, op is allowed her opinion. Just cos you don't agree doesn't mean she has to reword her title cos gasp horror she said something bad about mumsnet! The app is shit. So is the mobile site in my opinion. I use the full site on my iPod with no prob.

redcamels · 02/11/2011 08:37

< accepts slapped wrist for very naughty word >

Rephrased title: AIBU to expect a more than a reasonable degree of functionality from the FREE mumsnet app (which I am incredible grateful for and am by no means obligated to use)?

The app is a bit shit really. I deleted it. The mobile site, however, is stonkingly good.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 02/11/2011 08:45

Oh blimey, woe betide you actually diss da mumsnet app, op.

Yeah, it's shit. Mobile one is my pref.

redcamels · 02/11/2011 10:08

Korma - spooky stuff

OP posts:
banana87 · 02/11/2011 10:23

I like the app Smile

LeBOF · 02/11/2011 11:43

My opinion isn't substantially different, actually. But given that the ones who can fix it will probably read this, I'd go for honey rather than vinegar, IYKWIM...

Dillydollydaydream · 02/11/2011 11:45

I just use the mobile website. Didn't really get on with the app either.

bloodymumps · 02/11/2011 11:47

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's shit, but it does annoy me that links don't work. So if someone provides a link to either another thread or an external site its impossible to open it. And if you try to copy link and paste it into the browser it just says 'local file, cannot open' or somesuch.

BertieBotts · 02/11/2011 11:48

The mobile site is okay. For some reason the text box breaks swype on my android so I can't see the flashing cursor and it often switches back and forth from being selected or going onto the main page (sometimes losing everything) so I end up forced to use it in landscape orientation which replaces the text entry area with a swype one.

However it was the only thing which would actually load relatively quickly on the crappy internet TV screen thing which was my only option in hospital. So for this it gets extra points :)

slapmeonthepatio · 02/11/2011 11:48

It always crashes, so I don't even bother any more.

BertieBotts · 02/11/2011 11:49

(Using in landscape is okay but it means I have to use two hands. And the keyboard is slightly different so I'm not as used to it as tend to text in portrait orientation.)
